Physical Therapy: The Most Expensive BUT Most Useless Part Of My Knee Surgery Saga.

by Anura Guruge

Click to access my post.

I had my quadriceps tendon repair surgery,
at ‘
Frisbie Memorial Hospital‘ —
performed by Dr. Charles Blitzer
of ‘Seacoast Orthopedics
on Thursday, March 7, 2019.

There was no pain to talk about
— throughout, from surgery to now.

I was supposed to do a TON of physical therapy post week 6 of my knee surgery. I went to the first session. I was totally underwhelmed, somewhat aggrieved and felt that I had been FLEECED. I never went back. I did my own and I am delighted to say as week 13 approaches my knee is pretty much back to normal!

No pain. I now, as I did in the past, BOUND (yes, BOUND) up the four staircases we have in this house. Last Thursday, I ran 3-miles carrying 11 pounds of weights — up a hill. I am also doing 23-minutes of cycling on a stationary bike. I have NO PAIN.

Physical therapy is NOT for I. I do not need some kid, who is probably NOT as fit as I am (even when I was on crutches), telling me how to exercise. I exercise more than most and don’t need motivation, encouragement or threats. I just need time. I would exercise more if I had the time.

That they wanted a $45 copay when I only pay $35 to my surgeon genuinely UPSET I. The surgeon’s magic and care cannot be duplicated. Physical therapy — I could watch on YouTube.

They also did NOT have a long-handled shoe horn in the premises. That impressed me none. That is beyond ignorant.

I see that they charged my insurance $345 for a 40-minute session. That is criminal. I am glad I did NOT go back.

I am good. My knee is good. Physical therapy was NOT good.

So, you know the score. But, I fully appreciate that I AM STRANGE. So, factor that in.

Fitbit Losing $80 Million In 1Q2019, On $272 Million Revenue — Do NOT See The Glory Or Point.

by Anura Guruge

While I appreciate companies play all sorts of ‘games’ when it comes to reporting their income, these Fitbit results definitely appear to tell a story …

Losing $80 Million of $272 Million of sales. That is 29%.

This does not look like a ‘paper’ loss. It would appear that it costs Fitbit more to develop, manufacture, market, sell & support their products than they can recoup in sales.

If that is the case something is wrong. Fitbit must get their cost under control or stop selling their watches at a discount — just to get market share.

‘Safety’ Trucks With Huge TVs On The Back Will Be A Very Bad Idea In The U.S.

As with so many of such things I learned about this from my daily, cover-to-cover reading of the ever trusty U.K. “Daily Mail“.

I think these trucks  will be a DREADFUL idea in the U.S.

Why? Well they are NOT going to be cheap to begin with. So if truckers were forced to have them they will incur some huge costs.

So, given the non-Bernie American way, how do YOU think they will get around that cost.

They will start running ADs on these TVs when it is NOT safe to pass. So if there is traffic coming the other way you will suddenly start seeing toilet roll commercials. That is scary.

So that is my concern. American enterprise (in every sense of that word) WILL find a way to run ads on these TV. That is the American way (that Bernie is trying to hijack from us). SMILE.

Starting in October I started getting letters and ‘packets’ from my current health insurance provider, Anthem, saying that I could be — and would be — automatically re-enrolled in the same plan as I now have IF I opt not to login to (bloody) healtcare.gov and chose another plan.

I thought they were joking. I was sure that it would not be that easy.

Last week I got another letter, from Anthem, stating what my revised new premium would be, as of January 2016, IF I stayed on the current plan and opted to re-enroll.

It was still up 19%.

But I am going to take it. I really can’t stomach the aggravation of dealing, yet again, with healthcare.gov.

As I found out this year, to my COST, it doesn’t really matter what you do on healthcare.gov. The day of reckoning is when you do your Federal taxes! So why bother. Just pay what you have to pay and then be PREPARED to pay MORE as a tax penalty in April. So screw it. I am NOT going to bother messing around with healtcare.gov. That alone would be good for my health.

So a heads up. Public Service Announcement. IF you have health insurance this year, i.e., 2015, you can keep that for 2016 — most likely with a higher premium — without bothering with healthcare.gov.

I gave YOU a similar heads up last year. Click this image to access that post.

“Coveringnewhampshire.org” is a predatory wolf in sheep’s clothing.

They are but a front for the totally useless, rapacious, money-grabbing, ‘New Hampshire Health Plan’ — the OLD plan that those of us who had pre-existing conditions HAD to use before Obamacare.

PLEASE be wary of them. They are not an honest, ethical entity. They are out to exploit you whichever way they can. So PLEASE do not fall pray to their relentless, slick marketing and smooth talking.

Just a public announcement service to help YOU.

I don’t have the time to go into this in detail BUT I have been a train buff all my life — more so at times than others.
I have even driven actual passenger trains pulled by Canadian diesel engines!
That I have a fairly large collection of train books will attest to this interest because I only collect books on fields that I follow …

A train being PUSHED from the back, especially when negotiating a sharp bend,
is NEVER as stable, and as such safe,
as a train being PULLED from the front.
PERIOD.

Push-Pull commuter trains is a peculiar, COST CUTTING U.S. operational mode.

When I first saw it in the U.S. I was horrified. Aghast!

It is basic intuitive physics. Try it.

Why do we invariably PULL heavy things. The stability.

This train that derailed would have had a BETTER CHANCE of staying upright if it was being pulled.

Why do they do it. COST SAVINGS.

Commuter trains. Go from A to B and back to A again.

Ideally you have a double track system with switching so that the engine can be moved from front-to-back so to speak so that on the way back it is also still pulling.

Or, as they do in other countries you use TWO power units (locomotives) — one at the front, one at the back. Then you always have one unit PULLING the train.

In the U.S., with the mania for cost savings, they don’t do either.

They PULL the train one way and they PUSH it the way back.

Then you get derailments like this.

Mark my words. I do know about this stuff.

NTSB, aware of the economic impact, will FUDGE their report.
They know that they can’t ban this type of operation.
A few deaths, every few years, is worth it per their calculations.

The Dental Crisis In The U.S. (Never Mind New Hampshire) — People Just Can’t Afford The High Costs.

The $46 for my 2.5 minute, totally unnecessary, unsolicited ‘consultation’ by my dentist to tell me that ‘all was fine, “A-OK”, but he would really like me to get a $120 X-Ray‘, on Wednesday got me thinking.

I notice teeth. Drives Deanna nuts. I doubt whether I will ever find the time in my limited lifetime to get to it but I am sure it is a cultural thing. I am totally oblivious to the color of eyes and hair color — unless they happen to be blondes, and I do get accused of having a thing about blondes though I am not sure if that is true. I finally worked out, having incurred abuse from so many for decades along the lines ‘you didn’t notice the color of their eyes or their hair … what is wrong with you?‘ that it is a cultural thing to do with where you were born. If you were born into a society where 99% of the people have black eyes and black hair, you don’t bother to use eye color or hair color as a differentiator. That is my theory and I am sure I onto something here. But, I notice teeth. And yes, I will confess, I am also fussy about teeth. Bad teeth puts me on the ‘defensive’. So, of course, I notice all the folks in NH with ‘poor’ teeth. And I feel bad.

But, it was only today that I went looking for some facts. Medicare does not cover basic dental care! And folks think that the U.S. has good healthcare. Carry on with those wet dreams. If you don’t have dental insurance going to a dentist is an expensive undertaking. My visit on Wednesday, and I needed nothing other than a 49 minute cleaning, came to $126. That is more than half a weeks gross pay if you are on minimum wage. This is not right — and yes, I know that Medicaid, if you qualify, does cover some, if not all, dental care.
