MY Queen, Elizabeth II, Was Crowned This Day 64 Years Ago — June 2, 1953.

The famous 1953 Coronation.

Elizabeth II,
Dei Gratia Britanniarum Regnorumque Suorum Ceterorum Regina,
Consortionis Populorum Princeps, Fidei Defensor

Her Majesty Elizabeth the Second,
by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith

I do not have to be remembered that she was crowned in June 1953. That was my year of birth. Also the year of the first known ascent of Mount Everest — just ahead of the coronation.

So she has been Queen all my life.

As I have said before I was NOT always a Monarchist. But, she has WON me over. She is special. Not sure what we will do when she is gone — which, alas, is going to happen at some point. But, not thinking of that today.

64-years.

Longest currently reigning monarch — and the ‘currently reigning’ is key.

At present only #42 in the list of longest reigning monarchs! #42. Wow. Record is 82! 82. Lot that reigned 70+ years. Impressive.

I am not that au fait with all of the early English kings BUT I have read about ‘Edward’ and like what I have learned. Essentially the last but one English King prior to the Norman invasion of 1066.

I lived near Winchester from 1974 to 1981. Winchester Cathedral is very dear to I and I have spent a lot of time in it. Had a friend at IBM who was a campanologist at the Cathedral. He took me, for than once, up to bell tower to ring the bells with him and his other campanologists. That was always an experience.
