My Prior Years.

Last year, being the 75th anniversary, was, naturally, BIG. I am glad we commemorated with so much gusto since COVID has put a dent in this year’s participation.

But, with all of what is going on in the U.S., with the UNREST & moronic leadership, today is a wonderful day to BASK in what was THE GLORY of D-Day. What an achievement. A turning point in HISTORY. Maybe we are in the midst of another.

Not much more I can add. A solemn day in the end. Day to reflect, a day to give thanks — that we are speaking English rather than German.

This is a magnificent piece of art in it own right, even if you put aside the subject matter. The portraits of the five Allied Commanders are special; portraits Dick Bobnick’s forte.

You really must check this painting out. The detail is incredible.

Nice, easy to follow guide. Just note that the times are LOCAL. So, 5-6 hours ahead of U.S. Eastern.

Remember ‘D-Day 75‘ is June 6, 2019, not June 5. Huge day. You have to pause and give it some thought. Remember. Reflect. Rejoice!

This are at least 16 (yes, sixteen) D-Day specific posts on this blog, not counting all those on ‘Churchill‘ and the ‘RAF‘. So, please check them out. They all contain painstakingly researched images or videos. You will be amply rewarded.

I am a great admirer of D-Day.

I always pause to reflect on this day, June 6, 1944 — 9-years ahead of my birth.

D-Day, of course, changed the course of history — of course, for the better.

Yes, this being the 75th anniversary we will, quite rightly, see lots of gusto, pomp and ceremony. I wish we would celebrate it with similar vigor each and every year.

I was in London for the 50th anniversary. That was quite an occasion.

If NOT for the Allied heroics of this day we will NOT be speaking English.

U.S. State Department Cites D-Day As An Example Of Close Relations Between The U.S. & Germany!

I kid you NOT. This is TRUE.

Not an April Fool’s prank. This was 2-days ago!

This could ONLY happen in Donald Trump’s America!

Sacré bloody bleu. This is the U.S. State Department. U.S. State Department. What are they smoking?

Amazing.

I used to know folks that worked for that esteemed and August Government agency. They will be so embarrassed and sad. You can’t feel angry. Just sad.

I feel bad for the Americans.

June 6, 2018 “Peanuts” Cartoon Strip Honored D-Day Anniversary With “Snoopy” Swimming To Shore.

Aaaahh! That was so cute. It could be old, very old. It says, bottom right “6/6 Schulz” — but no year. I cannot remember seeing it before, BUT I could be wrong.

I guess Snoopy being so diminutive would have had to swim. As far as I recall, the MEN didn’t swim. That would have been impractical. But, I have seen images of them up to their chests in water.

Had to share this with you, in case you hadn’t seen it.

“Churchill” Movie (2017) On Starz — 97% Sheer Travesty!

by Anura Guruge

This was a TRULY horrible movie! Yuk!

The whole premise of the movie, i.e., that Winston Churchill was totally opposed to D-Day even at the bitter end, is bunkum. Yes, Winston had concerns and alternate ideas early on by as D-Day approached he was behind the plan. He did not try to ‘sabotage’ it.

An important subplot, i.e., that Winston had talked King George VI to accompany him on the HMS Belfast and make the D-Day crossing so that they could be with the troops, was totally misrepresented. Winston had NOT asked the King to come with him. Instead the King said that he would come with Winston in order to STOP Winston from making that crossing! Huge and key difference.

Also South African Field Marshal Jan Smuts was certainly on Winston’s staff BUT he never was as close to Winston as portrayed. That was poetic license.

Read the above cited articles from very credible sources. They will tell you what I just said, but in more detail.

The 3% that was bearable was the bit involving Winston’s rousing speech to the Nation post D-Day. But, there they used the Great Man’s exact words.

This movie was an insult. I regret watching it!

Winston Churchill & Franklin D. Roosevelt Met In Quebec This Day 73-Years Ago To Discuss Post-WW II Plans.

 Compelling YouTube video from 1944

This was the second time dear Churchill and FDR had met in Quebec (Canada) — just 11-months apart.

This September 1944 meeting was just 98-days after D-Day but Churchill knew that victory was ‘THEIRS’ — though it would be another 238-days BEFORE VE-Day. Nonetheless, Churchill and FDR discussed how and who would control areas of defeated Germany. But, who was MISSING. Uncle Joe (Joseph Stalin)!

From what I can piece together Churchill took the RMS Queen Mary to Canada — sailing a very southern route to avoid lurking German U-boats.

It was also his 36th wedding anniversary to Clementine.
