My Fitbit Ionic Is Irritating The Skin On My Wrist.

by Anura Guruge

I noticed ‘it’ on Friday. I had been wearing it for 8 days — and never too tight.

Irritating my skin takes some doing. Rhinoceros hide feels supple and soft compared to my skin. I don’t get bit much by mosquitoes because they can’t penetrate my skin. So, I really am thick skinned.

I wore multiple Garmins on the same wrist for 7 months and never saw a reaction. Also do not have a problem with my Samsung S3 Frontier.

And NO, I have not changed soap and I do take off the watch and dry my wrist after I take a shower.

NOT a big deal. It doesn’t hurt and it only itches if I think about it. So, c’est la vie. The Fitbit Ionic and I are not meant for the longtime. My hope is to find a more rugged Garmin come April/May.

But, I will keep you posted.

Fitbit Ionic — Need To Use ‘Fitbit.com’ Rather Than Mobile APP For All The Data!

by Anura Guruge

On an Android mobile. Does NOT give me an ELEVATION graph.

With ‘fitbit.com’ — logged into MY Fitbit account.

I did my first GPS-enabled run with the Fitbit Ionic that I got on Friday, February 2, 2018.

When I completed the run, it gave me a whole slew of data, right on the watch — more than I used to see with my Garmin Vivocative 3. 464′ of elevation was one of them — and I was GLAD. Tracking elevation is a MUST for I because elevation, and carrying 11 pounds of extra weight, is a feature of my runs.

But, when I checked the Fitbit APP on my Google Pixel 2 and 10″ ASUS Zenpad NO ELEVATION. Neither could I get to it on the watch. I was bummed. Then, much later on in the evening I invoked “fitbit.com” — because I was going to do a search on ‘elevation’. Saw that the dashboard was well populated now that I had been wearing the Ionic for a few days. Clicked on the ‘Exercise‘ tile and BINGO the elevation graph. I was so happy.

But seems DAFT that the APP does not display it. Of course, you can call up fitbit.com on you mobile.

Continues to confirm that Fitbit is no Garmin. The APP is very feature poor.

My ‘Google Voice‘ outbound service on the OBi110 stopped working this morning. Since OBi had screwed us before with Google Voice I kind of figured out, quite quickly, that this most likely was a software issue.

Did a few Google searches and LUCKILY stumbled upon the ‘Simon’ post, at the OBiTalk Forum, referenced above. A $6 FIX! I was skeptical since there were some bad reviews too. I was also worried that I might not be able to get it to work. But, $6 — on PayPal. Was worth a try.

IT WORKED — to my delight and relief.

The PayPal part was fine. No problems.

It took a FEW — nerve wracking — minutes, with multiple saves, browser refreshes and one cycling of power on the OBi110 before it took hold. Once it did, it was FINE.

So, …

What have you got to lose? $6?

I just hope this works for a few months.

Thank YOU, Simon.

You saved my day.

Garmin Support Confirms That “All Day Heart Rate” Menu Option Only Displayed in ‘Connect’ With Applicable Devices.

by Anura Guruge

This had to do with ‘Garmin Connect’ not displaying the “All Day Heart Rate” Menu Option once I had removed my Garmin Vivoactive HR on October 9, 2017.

I kind of suspected that this omission had to do with the removal of the Vivoactive HR — since it would have been too much of a coincidence otherwise.

But, Garmin telephone support DISAGREED!

They said menu option should always be there even if there was no device that supported HR.

So, I thought I would check with e-mail support — since I could send them a screenshot.

So, this was the outcome.

Sharing in case YOU run into the same problem.

Garmin Connect (On Android 7) Stops Showing “All Day Heart Rate” Menu Option …

by Anura Guruge

I noticed it yesterday, 7-8 hours after I had removed the Vivoactive HR from the account.

I am sure that this was NOT a coincidence.

I had originally thought I had LOST all my heart rate data from the 117 days that I did wear the Vivoactive 3 everyday — BUT luckily that is NOT the case. I can access the data from the main dashboard by clicking on ” TODAY — heart rate”. That is good.

Called up Garmin Support. No help. I am getting rather upset with them.

So this is but a heads up. OK?
