India v New Zealand 2016 1st Test (Kanpur) — Did YOU See Those Ginormous Dragonflies?

by Anura Guruge

I, of course, watched the first day Test Match highlights, on Willow (on Roku), last night [and it was good to watch Test cricket again after a gap of a few weeks].

I could NOT help but notice the huge swarms of GIANT dragonflies. You could clearly see them on the screen. So these suckers were as big as Hummingbirds. Never seen anything like that. Insects big enough to be seen on standard cricket footage.

Today I did a quick Google. So, I was NOT the only one that noticed. I found this …

P.S. — Something that occurred to me. Did NZ TRY NOT to get the last Indian wicket last night? If they did they would have had to bat for a few awkward overs. Just a thought.

West Indies vs. India 1st Test, Antigua — Sad & Sorry To See The Imposing BUT Empty Stadium.

Now (i.e., Thursday, July 21) that I finally got to see the exciting end of the England vs. Pakistan 1st Test from Lord’s (after TEN screwed up the 3rd days highlights), I decided to watch the start of the West Indies v. India 1st Test, Day 1.

Could NOT believe how empty the stadium was. WOW. Talk about “one man and his dog”. As far as I could see there were hardly any paying spectators and definitely no dogs. Wow. I had heard that Test cricket was no longer that popular in the Indies but this was outrageous. Yes, ticket prices must have been a factor too. Has to be very dispiriting to play in such an empty stadium, especially when it is so big.

Got to see my hero (who I had met many times in the 1970s) Sir Vivian Richards. Wow. He has got dark. He was never that black. He looks older than what he is — though, as ever, he is remarkably trim. It was good to see him though it was a shock to the system.
