I was not aware of her. I really know so little about Oliver Mtukudzi’s life other than his music. I must rectify that.

As with Sam Mtukudzi, his now departed son, and ‘Marshall Munhumumwe‘, a contemporaneous Zimbabwean musician, it is YouTube that brought her to my attention — this morning — as a suggestion. Thanks, YouTube. You sure know what will pique my interest.

She is good and some of Oliver’s band members play with her. That is all good, though she, at least from the little I have heard so far, is NO Oliver or for that matter Sam. But, she is ALIVE and that is definitely a PLUS. Smile.

I wanted to share the news with you — which I have now done. Check it out. You might like her.

If You Like ‘Oliver Mtukudzi’ (Or His Son, Sam) — Try Another Zimbabwean, ‘Marshall Munhumumwe’.

My bad. I had never heard of him or his band ‘The Four Brothers‘. My loss. And, I can’t believe this, as with Oliver & Sam Mtukudzi all these folks are dead too! Yikes. Zimbabwe!

So, all we can do is listen to them posthumously. What a shame.

As with ‘Sam’, YouTube brought ‘Marshall Munhumumwe‘ to my attention. I was listening to Sam and then I heard a new song, that I had not heard before, BUT was extremely catchy. It was Marshall Munhumumwe. Thanks YouTube.

Check out the 1st YouTube. What do you think. I will do more research in the next few days. Enjoy.

Great Shame That ‘Bob Willis’ (70) Has Passed Away — He Was A Decent Bloke.

by Anura Guruge

Click image to access the ‘BBC’ coverage.

He had a beautiful action.

Screen capture from the YouTube video below. I remembered this, from 1981.

With him being just four-years older than I, we were contemporaries and he played all of his professional cricket while I was still living in the U.K. I saw a fair amount of him — live, mainly at Lord’s. I would have to assume that I must have seen him in one of the Hampshire grounds or Somerset (which I visited a fair amount) but I can’t remember.

I do remember, vividly, the time he came out to bat without a bat. That, however, was on TV.

Nice guy. Beautiful action. Great cricketer.

I had seen him ‘recently’ on ‘Sky Sports‘ doing post-game analysis. Always very sage.

Shame. 70-years old. They say ‘after a long illness’ but I haven’t found out (as yet) as to what it was.

He was a decent bloke. A TRUE, genuine Brit.

I will miss him.

Sam Mtukudzi, Oliver’s Son, Also Now Dead (At 21) — Was As Good As Dad, Maybe Better!

by Anura Guruge

Click to access my post from a couple of weeks ago.

YouTube introduced I to Sam Mtukudzi just a couple of days ago. Since then I have been listening to him, on YouTube, whenever I get a chance. He is good. As good as his father? Maybe better.

I can’t get over that they are BOTH now dead! One at 66 (my age) and the other, even more tragically, 9-years ago, at 21. Wow. What a loss. Appears that he died under suspicious circumstances.

I kind of, vaguely, was aware that Oliver had a son. But, I had not paid any attention. Maybe now that I think about it, I might have also heard about the death but didn’t give it much heed since it was Zimbabwe! Yikes.

Sam is good. Brilliant. Has the same sound as the father.

I wanted to make sure that you got to hear him. Start at YouTube. You will thank me for this. SMILE.

I Am Devastated That Dear Oliver Mtukudzi Is Dead; He Was My Age — I Will Miss Him.

On my 90-minute walk this morning, dear, beloved Oliver Mtukudzi came to mind. I was going through the holiday-related events coming up over the next few weeks and remembered the ‘circus‘ I got tickets to at the Dartmouth HOP. It then came to mind that one of the last concerts we had been to at the HOP was that of Oliver Mtukudzi. And what a night that had been. I got to talk to him. I talked to him about cricket.

I also realized that I haven’t listened to Oliver in some time. These days, when I am at my PC, I mainly listen to music, which is NOT OFTEN, via YouTube. Much easier than any other option at my disposal. As I mention in one of the two posts cited above, though we have hundreds of CDs in this house, I only have 10 (one more since that post) in my office, and two of them happened to be by Oliver! That alone says something.

So, I invoked YouTube and banged in ‘oliver mtukudzi‘. The usual list came up and I, as I knew I would, started off with ‘Neria’. That was so, so GOOD. Ah, ah, ‘Neria’.

I then started looking at the YouTube list when I saw: “The best of Oliver Tuku Mtukudzi. Tribute“.

Ah? ‘Tribue’. Ah? I had a horrible feeling what that signified. And, alas, I was right. Damn. I wish I was wrong (as I am most of the time).

Diabetes. 66.

That could be I. Oh, Oliver. Why?

He was a GREAT MAN. He was GOOD MAN. He was MAN that gave so many joy.

Oliver Mtukudzi was A MAN.

Per My ‘Garmin Fenix 5 Plus’ I DIED Twice, In My Sleep, Last Night.

by Anura Guruge

I did NOT wake up dead tired. So, I have to assume that dying isn’t very tiring — and, of course, also the resurrection. Didn’t feel a thing.

I did, however, extremely atypically, oversleep by 20 minutes. I do NOT (contrary to what Garmin Connect thinks) use an alarm. I get up when I get up. Usually it is between 8:40 to 8:55 am. I am like clockwork. Not this morning. Strange. My body must have been compensating for the time I was dead.

As the chart below shows I am NOT new to Garmin. I check my heart rate FIRST THING each morning — just to make sure that I had not died.

This is the first time I have seen that I died. Kind of cool.

Yes, I have a depressed heart rate. Yes, part of that is drugs — legal ones, in particular MIRACLE-DRUG Toprol XL which I have been on for 20+ years. Plus, as befits someone in the TOP 99% of floor climbers I am reasonably fit.

My sleeping heart rate does go below 40. I have seen 32. But, never ‘ZERO’.

No, I do not have sleep APNEA and my BMI is definitely lower than that of Donald Trump. Promise and Mexico did not pay me to say that.

So, …..

My adoptive mother died in her sleep when she was 62. No symptoms. Nothing. Just died in her sleep. She was 62. I am 65. But, we do not share any genes (and she never wore jeans).

Interesting. Does not bother me. Dying in your sleep is the best way to go. So, I am cool with this.

Let’s see if I die again tonight. No, I am NOT going to think about it, BUT I bet my resting heart-rate will be up.

I was working it out. I died TWICE. So, I am now in my THIRD-COMING. Maybe I should start a cult.

Don’t wish me anything. Let nature take its course.

Garmin Vivoactive 3 Barometric Altimeter Died After 48-Days! My 2nd Vivoactive 3. 1st DIED After 15-Days.

by Anura Guruge

This is when I noticed. Saturday, January 27, 2018.

NO elevation on run. It is run with over 400′ elevation change.

So, same run. When altimeter was working …. after it failed.

Notice, in this graph the elevation is FLAT! Not right.

Today, Saturday, January 27, 2018, after my run — on course that I run at least twice a week — I noticed that there was NO elevation reading!

Then I remembered that 2 nights earlier, on Thursday night, it had said I had hardly climbed any stairs. It was late, I was tired … I just let it go as a temporary glitch. The altimeter must have stopped working around then.

As of today, this Garmin Vivoactive 3 is ONLY 48-days old.

I had it delivered from ‘Heart Rate Monitors USA‘ on Saturday, December 9, 2017.

It was my 2nd Vivoactive 3.

First one died, totally, after just 15-days. ‘Heart Rate Monitors USA’, a class outfit, replaced it.

Now this one is not fully working. Elevation is important to I.

Yes, I have done everything.

  • I cleaned the sensor holes with compressed air.
  • I did a SOFT RESET.
  • I cycled power.
  • I turned off/turned on Altimeter auto-calibration multiple times.
  • I manually calibrated it.

I am at a loss. Don’t know what to do.

It is a Saturday. It had to be. Garmin & ‘Heart Rate Monitors USA’ are both closed.

Not sure I want another Vivocative 3.

I am so upset. So, distressed.

Bloody Garmin. And as of last week I became a Garmin shareholder.

THE Outlaw Is Dead, Long Live The LAW. Boston Strong.

I never tolerated the paedophiles masquerading as Catholic clergy.

He, in terms of the lengths he went to, to protect known paedophiles, should have been in prison, NOT living it up, in the lap of luxury in Rome.

He was a BLOODY disgrace to the Catholic Church. That the Vatican protected and pampered him says much about what the Vatican truly feels about SEX CRIMES against children.

I, fortunately, am NOT alone in my total disgust and disdain for this smug, obese reprobate.

Garmin Is Recommending A ‘Soft Reset’ For Unresponsive (Frozen) Vivoactive 3 Trackers.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and read here.

Got this on my Twitter account — with Garmin responding to my “Vivoactive 3 DIED” post from last Friday, December 1, 2017.

I went and checked the Vivoactive 3 “Owner’s Manual“. It is in their, on Page 19, under “Troubleshooting“. See below. Though it is called “Restarting” and NOT “Soft Reset”. I never got to that. I panicked.

My Garmin Vivoactive 3 DIES, Totally, After Just 15-Days.

I left a review at Amazon. Click to ENLARGE and read. You will find it under ‘1 star’ reviews for the Garmin Vivoactive 3 at Amazon.

UPS return to “Heart Rate Monitors USA”. Managed to get it to a UPS drop-off before 5pm.

I am in SHOCK!

It had just stopped at 2:55pm. Frozen solid. Green heart-rate monitor lights not working and could not get them to come on.

Heart Rate Monitors USA“, from whom I bought it (via Amazon), was excellent. Lady called Jackie. E-mailed me a UPS return. Waited till I got it. Managed to JUST make it to the UPS drop-off before 5pm.

I am getting an exchange. That might have been a MISTAKE! I was in a panic.

This was so wrong.

I had worn it, non-stop, 24×7, since I received in Thursday, November 16, 2017.

Yesterday, was my day-off running and today (Friday) I had a breakfast meeting, in Wolfeboro, at 8:30am. So, didn’t go running either.

So, two days without running, GPS activated.

It was working fine in the morning. Working fine around 2pm.

Crazy busy day …

Close to 4pm, while typing on my PC, I looked at the Vivoactive to check the time. Said 2:55pm. Initially thought that I was doing better on time than I realized. Then it slowly dawned on me. That is NOT correct.

Totally FROZEN.

Read the Amazon review above. I plugged it into my USB port to see if I could jump start it. USB not working. Will not pair with phone. Bluetooth dead. HR monitor dead.

Not happy.
