Kickstarter.com is the group funding site for creative projects
– like book publishing.
This is my first attempt at trying to use them. No idea if it will work.
If it doesn’t, nothing lost, nothing gained. Status quo will prevail with the book.
People seem to like the book and I have got 5 reviews so far — and they are all legit. I have never believed in either trying to post my own bogus reviews, get family to do so or pay people to leave favorable reviews. Such deception is bound to backfire. A book has to stand on its own feet. Most of the reviews I have got for my books have the Amazon ‘Real Name’ badge — meaning that Amazon certifies that that is the name on the credit card that that person used to buy things from Amazon. That badge tells you that the person is real and can be tracked down.
So, I had this 4-star review earlier this week:
It is a nice review and I appreciate it.
Yes, I know that there are typos.
I said that up front in the book description and Preface:
I do not make any money on these books. I write them for the satisfaction of writing.
I spent a lot of money hiring editors to proof my ‘The Next Pope‘ book — and I was ripped off. Two of them just took my money. There was a typo in the first sentence of the book that they did not spot. I ended up having to hire another set for more money. So, I am done with that game.
But, if I can raise money via kickstarter I will hire an editor.
I also would like to have the book available for iPhones & iPads. And here is where the sheer stupidity of eBooks goes beyond the pale. There are multiple, incompatible eBook ‘standards’! The Kindle eBook standard is not compatible with what Apple, Barnes & Noble and others use! It is so stupid.
Amazon as ever is VERY CLEVER. They have the most lenient of standards! Plus their automated eBook converter compensates for any deviations you might have. Bottom line, Amazon makes it very easy to publish on Kindle. Not so the others. Hence why I just publish on Kindle. I don’t have the patience to struggle with the arcaneness of the other systems. But, in the case of this book I probably should. There are folks who will guarantee Apple iStore listing for about $175. In the scheme of things that would be the best path for me. So that is another reason to try and raise this money.
So for $60 you can have your name listed on all editions of the book as somebody who helped make the book possible.
I am willing to dedicate the book to ONE OF YOU for $600.
Ironically this is my new problem. I am running out of folks to dedicate my books! The kids and Deanna have had multiple dedications. I dedicated the last book to the dogs. That is kind of getting desperate. So, IF you ever wanted a book dedicated to you … just ask. I have a few more books in the pipeline. So plenty of options.
