I am glad that the market rewarded them for their bold move. That is good and shows that there are a lot of people, like I, who applaud their courage and civic duty.
But, we all know that there will be a backlash. I have already seen people reacting very negatively. Yes, there will be boycotts. I hope that there are no demonstrations or pickets. I would hate to see any employees getting harrassed.
Interesting times. I haven’t checked what the reaction has been to Walmart deciding to follow in Dick’s footsteps.
I am SO happy that “Dick’s Sporting Goods” took these courageous stand. Way to go.
Yes, it will lose them some customers BUT it has earned them a boat load of goodwill and publicity beyond what a 3-minute slot on the Super Bowl could have got them. It is so good to see U.S. companies doing the RIGHT THING. Bravo. Kudos.
I have a “Dick’s Sporting Goods” reward card though I haven’t shopped there in a while — mainly because I don’t buy that many sporting goods anymore. The basic stuff I need, like cheap running shoes, I pick up at Walmart. But, NOW I am going to make an effort to shop there! So, see it PAYS.
During the Summers of 2010 & 2011 we frequented them often. We needed a kayak and ended up getting a kayak and a Standup Paddle Board — then going back for a second Paddle Board. They were excellent to deal with. They always made the experience rewarding. Very helpful. Very nice. So, I am very happy about this.
