Rumors have been around since September 2015 that Samsung’s camera division, despite the critically acclaimed Samsung NX1, was on the skids and that Samsung was looking for a buyer.
On Tuesday morning a number of camera rumor Websites were reporting that mega-distributor “B&H” had the Samsung NX500 marked as discontinued. I checked Cameta Camera and BuyDig.com. Neither of them have the NX500.
The NX500 is still listed on Amazon, by Samsung for one, at $797.99 with a 16-50mm kit lens. IF Samsung is discontinuing this camera, the baby brother of the much more expensive NX1, this is still too expensive. I have never considered the NX500 because it does not have a viewfinder — electronic or optical. And I wouldn’t get a camera at this price bracket without a viewfinder.
If it is indeed discounted the price will probably drop, quite quickly, by another $200. When it gets close to $500 it would be tempting to revisit it since it does have one heck of an impressive 28.2 MP APS-C sensor (though I keep on hearing that all the current Samsungs have autofocus issues).
