WOW!

I can’t tell you how well this has been put together. Bloody brilliant. I am in awe.

Brand new. This has to set the bar for future documentaries of this genre. Not sure how they got all these people to talk.

Did NOT know this ‘story’. Quite the story.

Very watchable. I have really enjoyed it. They had me hooked 5-minutes into it.

Yes, I recommend it — highly.

‘Jane Goodall’ Documentary On ‘National Geographic’ Tonight.

by Anura Guruge

I had read in the printed “National Geographic” magazine (to which we subscribe without fail) that they were going to be doing a new documentary series on Jane and her chimpanzees. I am not sure whether this is it.

I haven’t watched anything on the ‘NatG‘ channel in months, so had not seen any promos.

Happened to hear an ad for it on a local radio station this afternoon while driving to Walmart. Checked the schedule when we got back. It was on sure enough. Same episode repeated, back-to-back, at 8pm and 9pm (Eastern). I recorded the 8pm.

I cannot find when this episode or any other will be shown again. But, I promise to look.

I will keep you posted. I wanted to give you a heads up — though I know it is late. Sorry.

As the 3rd image above explains this emotive documentary has LED to two more suspects being identified. It was BIG news, particularly in Europe, earlier this week. Well you now have access to the documentary — all three episodes.

“The Body Donors” Documentary Should Inspire & Encourage — Not Repulse. Please.

Click to read my original PLEA for body donation. Please.

This sensationalistic headline in the U.K. Daily Mail is unnecessary!

Why would YOU care what happens to your body after you die?

PLEASE donate it to science — let them do whatever. Why do YOU care.
Feel good about it, instead.

This, from the same article, says it all.

What MORE do YOU want to hear or know.

Please donate. This is one of the dearest causes to my heart.
One of the BEST decisions I ever made.
That the person who ‘inspired’ me to do this RENEGED on it, when he died, only shows how IMPORTANT it is.
My ‘grandfather‘ (though probably not biologically) did this and asked ALL males in the family to do so.
None have so far, because his own son didn’t heed the request. So I will be the first — I HOPE.

This could CHANGE your life.

Please do yourself a HUGE favor and listen to it.
Least you can do for me after ALL we have been through. SMILE.

This was one of my first FORMATIVE songs.

Growing up in the U.K, on my own, kind of abandoned by my adoptive parents, c. 1970, aged 17, I started discovering NON MAINSTREAM groups. “The Strawbs” was the FIRST such group I discovered. I think I went to one of their concerts BECAUSE it was the ONLY one I could afford to take a date on! Good reason as any. It was a fancy venue on the banks of the Thames. They, “The Strawbs”, that night blew both of us away BUT for the world of me I can’t remember who she was. Story of my life. But, luckily “The Strawbs” made much more of a lasting impression. I still have, in vinyl form, my original “Strawbs” LPs.

I loved this song. I am not a Christian, never have been, never will be, but I like these words. I like the BIT about what Jesus will say IF asked about the pope.

I went onto become a HUGE fan of “Dave Cousins“. You have heard of Dave … right?

Here, PLEASE check out the Wikipedia entry for “The Strawbs”.

So, PLEASE. Indulge me. Listen to this. It will make an impression. Cheers. SMILE.

I recorded and watched “Pope Francis — The Sinner” on Thursday night.

It was good, exceeded my expectations. Lots of interesting footage and commentaries. Pithy and fast-paced.

Yes, I knew at least 95% of what was presented BUT then again I have spent a lot of time researching this pope and writing about him.

It is definitely worth watching ahead of the pope’s first visit to the U.S. next week.

I do talk about much of what is covered in this documentary in my
Pope Francis’ U.S. Visit 2015”.

We chronicled, in detail, sometimes hourly, the frustrations suffered by many last year when the circus, the arena and the city went to great lengths to make sure that the public would not know when the elephants would parade from the train to the arena. I was being naive last year. It took me awhile to realize what all that obfuscation was all about. ‘They’, and by that I mean all parties involved from the circus to the city, are worried that animal rights activists might try to create a scene that could lead to pandemonium. Elephants, at least the Asian elephants used exclusively by circuses, are not easily spooked, but when they are spooked it is not a pretty sight.

This HBO Documentary, that I have watched parts of, has exacerbated the tension as Ringling Brothers are explicitly cited — even with pictures of the elephants performing at a circus.

Then there was this incident that reported earlier this year:

apologytoelephants3

And there have been protesters in Manchester the last few years — not many, but the few that were around sure made sure that people got to hear them.

So that is the issue. They want to keep the elephants ‘low key’ — however ridiculous that sounds. To be fair they did a good job of sneaking the elephants on and off the train. On the last night they moved the elephants while the show was still going on. That was never the case in prior years. We know. We used to be there for the ‘good bye’ parade.

So, that my friends, is the state of play as to what we can expect in Manchester in October re. the elephants.

‘North America’ Series On The Discovery Channel. Not As Scintillating As ‘Africa’ But Still A Very Compelling HD Tour de Force.

We have watched two episodes of Discovery Channel’s ‘North America’ so far. They were, indubitably, good. Definitely 4th generation of nature programs, 2nd gen. in terms of HD exploitation — if you start with David Attenborough incomparable and seminal Life On Earthon BBC in the 1970s as the first generation of this genre. See my ‘Africa’ post for more on ‘Life On Earth‘ if you are not familiar with this groundbreaking series.

I could be mistaken, but I do not think that this series, especially when it comes to storylines, narration, close-ups and ingenuity, is as good as ‘Africa’ which really was breathtakingly amazing. Maybe I got slightly spoilt by having watched all the episodes of ‘Africa’. We are still going to watch all of this series, it is too good to pass by.

Still a definite two-thumbs up. Kids should love it. Enjoy. I have already set the DVR to record this week’s episode (tonight, I think).

‘Africa’ Series On The Discovery Channel: The Bold NEW Standard For Nature Shows. Beyond Amazing.

Since we watch a fair number of shows on the ‘Discovery Channel‘ (all taped, of course, because of the huge volume of commercials) we had seen the previews for this show. When they had mentioned that it was a BBC cum David Attenborough production, I knew it would be good. As with so many Brits of my vintage, I adore Sir David. We came to age as far as nature programs were concerned on David’s incomparable ‘Life On Earth‘.

If you have never experienced ‘Life On Earth’ do yourself a huge favor and at least watch a few minutes on YouTube. David’s voice is mesmerizing. I watched the series when it first came out on BBC TV in 1979. I have since watched it at least 6 times. The 2 older kids used to watch the VHS tape, often. They too loved the show. I had multiple formats of the book. Not sure if I still have a copy. Will have to look around. If I don’t, I really should get a copy.

‘Life on Earth’ (and even ‘Planet Earth’ (of which we have the DVD set)) was brilliant. ‘Africa’ leaves them in the dust!

The telephoto and zoom camera shots are breathtaking. This is the pinnacle of HD technology at its best. They also throw in a huge amount of intriguing information — like the go/no-go distance at which a Cheetah decides to chase a pray. Plus, creatures you would never have seen. It is an amazing show. We watched Episode 2 last night. The baby elephant dying was distressing. But, it was all compulsive watching. Yes, Discover Channel, as is their wont, does its best to obliterate the image with obnoxious promotional ads in all 4 corners of the screen. Their greed has no end.
