I Was At ‘Dixville Notch’ For The ‘1st In The Nation Voting’ Of 2020 — 1st To Hear The Results. (SMILE)

Spur of the moment decision — or as close as it gets. I was in the Quest, at 8:10pm, within 6-hours of thinking about it. Had never given it any thought in prior years. Then, I had the idea. Teischan (14), who loves driving at night, said she would come to keep me company. 140-mile trip, one-way. 3-hours — BUT that was WITHOUT the snow. 75% of the trip, going & coming was in snow squalls & some very stiff winds. Close to 7-hours of driving. Got home at 3:45am. IT WAS WORTH IT.

Did not realize that it was being run by the (new) “The Balsams“. I had done a quick Google. Didn’t see anything obvious. Assumed we would see it once we got to Dixville Notch. And that is exactly what we did. Followed the ONLY lights — though it was a blocked road with a sign that said “Road Closed”. It took place in a beautiful lodge belonging to “The Balsams”. I had not made any arrangements. The organizer from “The Balsams” was extremely nice & professional. He let me in & gave me — what I consider — the BEST seat in the house. My pictures attest to that. Open window — with an unobstructed view & I did not have to jostle with anyone. See 5th image above — the 3 counting the ballots. RIGHT in front of I. I could hear them. So, I heard the 5 Biden calls before it was announced. I CAN HONESTLY CLAIM I WAS THE 1st TO HEAR ACTUAL 2020 ELECTION RESULTS.

I am glad I went. I am very grateful to “The Balsams”. Thank YOU.

Picturesque Setting Thanks to “The Balsams”.

My Seat.

My View.

Very 1st Ballot Being Cast Just After Midnight.

Only 5 ballots were cast. All 5 who cast them also happened to be officials that ran the election. Neat. I expected around 12 folks to vote. 4th image above shows all 5 that officiated & voted. They were good. It was a great experience. Glad I went. It was all done & dusted at 12:10am. Yes, 10-minutes, soup-to-nuts.

A few more pictures.

We did go to “The Balsams” grand liquidation auction in 2012. Wow. 8-years ago. Ironically I only bid on TWO items. I bid on the 2008 Presidential tally board — from when Obama was elected. I went up to $300. It eventually sold for $400 (according to WMUR), though I thought it stopped with the bid after mine (and I kind of suspected that the house was bidding against me). I also tried to bid on a plastic Coke bin. Though I was standing up on a chair waving my card, they ignored my bid and sold it to a lady for $10. C’est la vie.

From 2008.

Misprinted ‘LA County Ballots’ — Didn’t Just Omit Trump (Per The Claim) BUT Biden Too.

by Anura Guruge

You will hear this as ‘LA County’ 2020 ballots going out WITHOUT Trump’s name. That is TRUE, BUT it wasn’t just Trump’s name. Biden’s name wasn’t on them also. They basically OMITTED the Presidential election.

So, KEY POINT is that it wasn’t a PLOT to deprive Trump of votes. You couldn’t vote for Biden either.

Please remember that.

NO PLOT.

Genuine mistake. Did NOT favor Biden.

My Considered Take On The Next Conclave.

by Anura Guruge

It will be uncanny — for those that lived through the U.S. 2020 presidential election.

It will be deja vu, but this time in the context of the Church.

Yes, since 1870 (or thereabouts) most conclaves pivoted on ‘right’ (traditionalist/conservative) vs ‘left’ (‘modernist’/liberal) considerations.

But, as with the U.S. (& Trump), Pope Francis has brought this to ‘a head’.

There is polarization like never before — both in the U.S. & the Church.

The HUGE, insurmountable difference between the U.S. election & the conclave, however, being that unlike U.S. citizens, Catholics have NO SAY. Not even Catholic priests, bishops or archbishops. Just (at most) 120 cardinal electors hand-picked by Popes Francis, Benedict XVI & John Paul II. Papal elections are NOT democratic. Papal elections hark back to the fiefdoms of the 13th century.

But, the battle will be real & bitter.

It will hark back to Vatican II — ’80’-years ago. It will be a ding-donger.

Stay tuned. I will keep you posted.

Barbara Bush, With Danielle, At The ‘White House’, November 1992.

by Anura Guruge

I was distressed to hear, earlier today, that former First Lady Barbara Bush (now 92) is in failing health and as opted to forgo further medical treatment. Like so many around the World, I wish her the very best.

She was quite the Lady — the epitome of one, and I think the above pictures, that hangs in our hallway, captures it all.

She was a genuine, caring human being — you can see it in those eyes.

This picture, at the White House, was taken in late November 1992 — about 2-weeks after they lost the presidential election to Bill Clinton. While, she had expressed, understandably disappointment, you can clearly see that she was not bitter or sulking. She did, however, tell Danielle, a rambunctious 3-year old at that the time, not to break anything too valuable because the they had to make sure that they handed over the House in tip-top condition.

There have, of course, been quite a few exemplary First Ladies, and Barbara Bush of course is up there among the best — and you can’t deny that irrespective of her politics.

She and Abigail Adams share an unique distinctions. They were both, Second Ladies of the United States, First Ladies and mothers of subsequent presidents. Wow. Pretty impressive.

I wish her well.

Her pictures will grace our hall and lives for as long as I am around.

I Pull The Plug On My Once High-Flying “Popes and Papacy” Website/Blog.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and marvel. These the stats for February 10, 2013 to March 30, 2013 — viz. Pope Benedict XVI’s resignation and Pope Francis’ election. 168,000 hits during those 6-weeks. 14,702 hits on the day of the resignation. Those were the glory days.

I gave up and pulled the trigger way earlier than I had planned.

I had been trying to migrate all of the important content, for posterity, to this blog. But, tonight, I gave up. I just don’t have the time. So much to do and this was just another distraction.

Yes, I do realize that I just destroyed quite a bit of valuable, cannot be found anywhere else data! C’est la vie. I guess if we get desperate some bits of it might still be available on the Internet archive. But, as of now it is ALREADY gone.

Finally End-Gaming My Once Highly Popular “Popes and Papacy” Website/Blog.

This during 2012 — 2013 was my PRIMARY blog — as opposed to this one. I put in a TON of work into it, working on it 4 – 6 hours a day. It had nearly 1,500 posts — and over 760,000 hits.

But it was really my “Next Pope (after Benedict XVI)” blog — to go with my “Next Pope 2011” book.

Once Francis was elected — and I did correctly identify him as a potential next pope — I kind of lost enthusiasm. My job was done. I wanted to move onto other greener pastures, e.g., orgasms, meditation and chronic pain. Plus, this blog was ‘taking off‘ — with around the same number of hits per day.

So, as I have done with so many other blogs I basically abandoned it. So for the last 4 years it has been ticking along because of the wealth of posts that were already in there.

But, keeping it going is becoming an issue — and cost is NOT one of them, though bloody GoDaddy charges me two arms and two legs for it. A lot has to do with security and I just am not willing to expend the efforts needed to button down all the hatches that I am supposed to.

So I am in the process of closing it down.

Hence the flood of ‘papal’ posts you have seen in the last week. {Smile}

I am transitioning over all the valuable, in many instances unique posts. I have also already deleted nearly 200 posts. Hopefully I will be done by October 2017.

So, now you know what all the new papal posts are about.

Enjoy.

Irony Of Theresa May’s Embarrassment, Margaret Thatcher Had A Landslide 34 Years & 1 DAY Ago!

hjby Anura Guruge

June 8, 2017 vs June 9, 1983.

What a difference.

June 9, 1983 with Margaret Thatcher.

I voted, for her, in this election, in Harpenden, Herts.

June 8, 2017 with Theresa May.

Though eligible to vote, I did NOT because the U.K.
does not have a good mail-in balloting scheme.

Quite a difference. Maggie walked away with 397 seats. May has 317. That is a 80-seat difference.

To be fair Maggie had the BRILLIANT Falkland Island victory to bouy her.

Wonder if Theresa gave the June 9th date any thought when she called the election for June 8.

Post Trump, Democrats Flip A State Seat From The Republicans In Blood Red Wolfeboro, NH — The First!

by Anura Guruge

Symbolic, encouraging and hopefully, with a TON of luck, a harbinger of things to come.

What is most significant is that is BLOOD RED Wolfeboro — where Mittens Romney has one of his many mansions (and a few of his many wives).

Trump won Wolfeboro by a 7% margin. It is one the REDDEST towns in New Hampshire.

This win make NO difference at the NH House. The Democrats lost a seat in Hillsborough County and the GOP margin in NH is HUGE.

But, a small victory for us.

Pope Francis Was Elected 4 Years Ago; March 13, 2013.

by Anura Guruge

It was a BIG day for I, as ‘Mr. Next Pope‘.

Luckily for I, I had got it RIGHT! (Phew).

It had been a hectic month singe Benedict XVI announced his intent to resign.

In those days my PRIMARY blog was the (now quiesced) ‘Popes and Papacy‘.

Here are some germane and for I, nostalgic, posts from 4-years ago.

P.S., I might have got it WRONG that he was going to be a good pope. Sorry. I was just excited that I had got it RIGHT. So many DID NOT. So, I could retire with my credibility INTACT.

Bernie Sanders’ Left Hand During CNN ‘Health Care’ Debate With Ted Cruz — Does He Have Parkinson’s?

by Anura Guruge

berniehand

Click to ENLARGE. Notice how he is holding his left hand. He did this ALL the time. The fingers kept on twitching. Use link below to access YouTube video.

Click here to access the YouTube video of the CNN debate.

I watched some of the debate. Was struck by two things, that were hard to escape:

1/ Bernie looks noticeably older than he did prior to the election.

2/ Something seems to be the matter with his LEFT HAND.

Whenever he was standing and not talking he was using his right hand to FIRMLY hold down his left. And the fingers of his left hand were twitching like crazy.

Yes, it could have been nerves. But, I can’t remember that from Bernie last year.

Reminded me of Bob Dole!

Is he getting Parkinson’s? Not sure.

Did a quick Google. Nothing.

Check out the video.

Hope he is OK. I actually like Bernie. Just didn’t want him as the candidate — BUT maybe he could have beaten the ” ” (name unsaid).
