Renewed Measures To Provide More Navajos, In ‘Navajo Nation’, With Grid-Based Electricity.

More good news for the Navajos and they sure can do with as much as they can get.

On-demand, grid-based electricity is such a necessity. So much else depends on it — phone charging, Internet access, reliable refrigeration etc.

So, I was delighted to read about this. Must be so exciting. I hope it is affordable — because the Navajo are NOT rich. But, lovely people.

I hope this initiative dovetails with their new efforts to break into Solar Energy.

This is my concern and fear when it comes to Internet bandwidth. We are using it at a faster rate than we can — eventually — add capacity to keep up.

I have absolutely no issue with Internet bandwidth being used productively. That is what it is there for. Yes, even with just productive use we will run out of capacity and start running into slowdowns caused by congestion.

My crusade is against WASTE of bandwidth. People just wantonly abusing bandwidth BECAUSE there is no direct cost associated with capacity used. I am in favor of having a USAGE charge on bandwidth — on TOP of the access charge we currently pay for Internet access.

As I keep on pointing out we all can do SMALL things and they all help. When you reply to an e-mail DELETE MOST (if NOT all) of what was already there. Sending it back takes up BANDWIDTH. Just as with energy there is no such thing called FREE BANDWIDTH. All bandwidth used consumes energy, generates actual traffic — which causes congestion — and eats into capacity.

So, PLEASE, PLEASE don’t waste Internet bandwidth. It is a finite resource and we will run out of it. Thank YOU.

I Contacted New Hampshire Governor, Maggie Hassan, About Making The ‘Internet Hour’ A Reality.

Yes, of course, it needs to be a GLOBAL event, BUT it has to start somewhere.

So why not New Hampshire.

The Governor can make it happen in New Hampshire with a simple proclamation. That will get the ball rolling. But, N.H., as with the Presidential Primaries, will always be able to boast that it was the first.

As you know, we do know the Governor. I reminded her of that.

Yes, I am very serious about this. I already have a list of folks that I am going to contact, but Governor Maggie Hassan was #1.

Lets Have An ‘Internet Hour’ To Match ‘Earth Hour’ Where We Conserve Internet Bandwidth.

This weekend’s 2015 ‘Earth Hour‘ to conserve one hours worth of electricity, worldwide, got me thinking.

We should also have a ‘Internet Hour‘ where we conserve one hour of bandwidth, across the Web — and also use that time to educate folks that anything and everything that you do on the Web uses energy.

That an idiot Sri Lankan, who claims to be a civil engineer told me that it does not take electricity to send a 9MB file across the Internet, from Australia to the U.S., still has me in a state of shock. That is amazing. This guy, though obviously NOT the brightest bulb in the world (and not even in Australia), is semi-educated and even claims to do consulting work on energy management.

So this is an issue. We have to educate the whole world that the Internet does not operate on thin air. The Internet uses ENORMOUS amounts of energy.

So lets work towards an ‘Internet Hour’. I am going to start contacting people forthwith. Join me. Spread the word.

MAKE THE INTERNET GREEN.
