My Prior Years.

Last year, being the 75th anniversary, was, naturally, BIG. I am glad we commemorated with so much gusto since COVID has put a dent in this year’s participation.

But, with all of what is going on in the U.S., with the UNREST & moronic leadership, today is a wonderful day to BASK in what was THE GLORY of D-Day. What an achievement. A turning point in HISTORY. Maybe we are in the midst of another.

Not much more I can add. A solemn day in the end. Day to reflect, a day to give thanks — that we are speaking English rather than German.

Please check ALL the ‘D-Day‘ and ‘Red Poppy‘ posts on this blog. The search box is on the sidebar. In those days I covered much.

Remember. Reflect. Rejoice!

Instant Karma: World’s First Porsche Fails To Sell At Auction Because Of Bad English?

by Anura Guruge

Classic.

A German car and a Dutch auctioneer. I know the Dutch have a long, storied history when it comes to auctioneering BUT how do you end up with one that even his OWN PEOPLE can’t understand.

This was a multi-million dollar question. Nobody at Sotheby’s was paying attention? This is crazy.

But, I class it as ‘Instant Karma‘. German cars give you that. Trust me on this.

It Will Be DECADES Before Pope Francis’ Updated “Lord’s Prayer” Makes It Into English.

by Anura Guruge

Click image to access the U.K. ‘The Sun’ original.

The U.K. Catholic Church is NOT defying the pope or Rome. They would never do that. To much to lose, especially in ‘Church of England‘ U.K.

They are just exploiting a VALID technicality.

The official prayers for all languages are contained in a Vatican-approved, language-specific missal.

The NEW Lord’s Prayer, as yet, will ONLY appear in the Italian missal. That, obviously, is not what is used in the U.K.

It takes years, if not decades, for the vernacular versions to be translated (from the Latin) and approved by the Vatican. Hence, why there will be a long, long delay before English speaking Catholics will have to re-learn the Lord’s Prayer.

But, rest assured, the pope has the right & authority to change the Lord’s Prayer.

Pope Francis Gives INTO Temptation And Changes The “Lord’s Prayer”!

by Anura Guruge

I wrote about this in December 2018.

HUGE change, but it will not be instantaneous.

It will first appear in the Italian Missal — which has yet to be published.

It will then take years before it percolates into the other Missals — especially English.

What is bothering many is that the Pope’s change will ONLY apply to the Catholic version. So, we will now have two versions of the Lord’s Prayer; the Catholic version and the non-Catholic version.

What fun.

However, as I said in my December 2018 post, I do AGREE with the pope (for a rare change).

Nice, easy to follow guide. Just note that the times are LOCAL. So, 5-6 hours ahead of U.S. Eastern.

Remember ‘D-Day 75‘ is June 6, 2019, not June 5. Huge day. You have to pause and give it some thought. Remember. Reflect. Rejoice!

This are at least 16 (yes, sixteen) D-Day specific posts on this blog, not counting all those on ‘Churchill‘ and the ‘RAF‘. So, please check them out. They all contain painstakingly researched images or videos. You will be amply rewarded.

I am a great admirer of D-Day.

I always pause to reflect on this day, June 6, 1944 — 9-years ahead of my birth.

D-Day, of course, changed the course of history — of course, for the better.

Yes, this being the 75th anniversary we will, quite rightly, see lots of gusto, pomp and ceremony. I wish we would celebrate it with similar vigor each and every year.

I was in London for the 50th anniversary. That was quite an occasion.

If NOT for the Allied heroics of this day we will NOT be speaking English.

48 Matches, in total, May 30 to July 14 (Final).

Essentially a match day.

GOOD TV (Roku) coverage in the U.S. with Willow TV.

[Do NOT bother with Hotstar unless you are Indian or have a low IQ.]

I plan to watch the highlights of all 48-matches on Willow TV.

I was there at the 1979 & 1983 FINALS at Lord’s.

Watched 2015, 2011 & 2007 on TV.

So let’s get ready.

Today is the DAY.

Enjoy.

Cheers.

Cricket World Cup 2019: Who Do I Think/Hope Will Win It.

As with so many decisions in my life, I have two choices — one based on what I think (i.e., what my heads says) and the other being what I want (i.e., going with the heart).

Despite their poor performance in the warm-up game against Australia (on Saturday), I, like most of the professional pundits, think that England can pull this off. Nothing wrong with that. As a proud Brit I will, of course, rejoice. But, I don’t have an empathy with any of the current English players. They just seems so robotic.

On the other hand, I genuinely like quite a few of the South Africans. I have really got to admire and enjoy the South Africans over the last few years. They have usurped the West Indies, a team I ardently supported for over 40-years, as the team I look forward to watching and rooting for.

What I like most is their genuine, fondness for each other — irrespective of color or religion (given that they have white & black, Christians and Muslims). That team exemplifies what Nelson Mandela wanted for all of South Africa. I think part of my fondness for them is my devotion to Nelson Mandela. Supporting this South African team is like paying homage to Nelson. That appeals to me. Plus, some really exciting cricketers: Quinton de Kock, Hashim Amla, Lungi Ngidi, Kagiso Rabada … They all remind me of the West Indians that I should to adore.

Well, the 2019 World Cup hasn’t even started yet. So, a long way to go. But, it should be fun — especially with U.S. coverage available with Willow TV.

Pope Francis Resists Temptation, For Now, To Change The “Lord’s Prayer”.

by Anura Guruge

Click for “National Catholic Register” original.

Has it ever occured to you that the “lead us not into temptation” line in the Lord’s Prayer sounds incongruous?

It is telling the Lord not to lead you into temptation! Yes, Ah!

Why would the Lord want to lead you into temptation?

But, that is basically what that line is saying.

Please Lord, do NOT lead me into temptation“.

…….

Pope Francis quite rightly thinks it just doesn’t sound right.

But, he is NOT going to change the Lord’s Prayer.

I repeat, he is NOT going to change the Lord’s Prayer.

He could, if he wanted, BUT he is NOT going to do it for now.

He just wants you to THINK about it. And I always like folks that ask others to THINK about something worthwhile.

The French have changed their translation to take out the ‘lead’. The pope likes that. So, do I.

It has all to do with translations.

Contrary to what so, so many Americans think the Bible was NOT written in English and Jesus did NOT speak English.

The English and French versions have come about through a tortured course of translations over 1,600 years. From Aramaic/Hebrew to Greek … to Latin … to colloquial Latin (i.e., Vulgate) … English/French.

It was during this process that the ‘lead us’ came about.

So, NOW you know the real story.
