Given that they have a monopoly in most of the states they operate in, they do not feel a need to be competitive or compelling. The goal is to make as much profits as possible and use it as executive compensation. It appears that they have not bothered to update their IT system in years. They try and do as much as possible the 1970s-way using paper.
Pretty shocking and sad. But, they are the ONLY game in town.
Now that I have, after spending over 9 hours this month and over 11 phone calls, given up trying to get insurance via healthcare.gov I tried to get dental insurance from Delta Dental directly. They were not very helpful. If anything they were downright uncooperative and unhelpful. They didn’t care if they got my business or not.
What a country. What a system. Totally hostage to these big insurance monopolies.
Just wanted to give you a heads up.

Well, as I have previously confessed there is always method to my madness.
This is great. Thank YOU. Exactly what the doctor ordered.
Of course I feel bad for the government workers who will be furloughed. I tried to do some research on the implications. They are eligible for Unemployment Benefits and some have ALREADY signed up — Tuesday morning (Oct. 1). If the 1995-1996 shutdown is a precedent they will get paid sometime down the road — and I am not sure whether they will get docked what they got in unemployment. So, yes, very upsetting for them, but this is their government at work!
Oh, the market will recover. Of that there is no doubt or debate.
Best for the Government to stay closed PAST the debt-limit stand-off.
Actually best scenario is if it is closed well into 2014 — though, alas & alack, that will not happen.
