I CANCELLED My ‘Atlantic Broadband’ (ABB) Internet Service — Last Outage Was The Final Straw (Metrocast Customer Since 1997).

by Anura Guruge

My post from 5-days ago. I was NOT happy. I was livid. Screw them. I still have TDS.

I had been a customer for 22-years — starting in Meredith (NH) in 1997.

But, there is only so much abuse that even I am willing to tolerate.

Atlantic Broadband is NO Metrocast. Atlantic Broadband (ABB) is a garbage company.

Well, I am NOT going to lose Internet. SMILE.

For the last 4-years or so I have always had TWO (2) Internet feeds to the house: one from ABB & the other from TDS. So, yes, we have two separate Wi-Fi networks (actually 3 since one of our routers is dual-band).

For now, I, like most normal folk, will just have ONE (1) Internet service — from TDS over dedicated fiber to the wall.

And YES, I am going the Full Monty.

I am getting 1 Gigabit Internet.

As a backup we will use cellular Hotspots and I am going to get unlimited data on all our phones.

Just had it, just had it with BLOODY, scummy ABB.

Yes, TDS has outages too. But, never like bloody ABB. I know. I keep track. You can check. Use my ‘search’ feature and look for ‘outage’. SMILE.

Another Bloody ‘Atlantic Broadband’ Outage, Oct. 17, 2019 — And It Is NOT Storm-Related!

IF it was storm-related I would cut them slack. But, it is NOT.

It is their now rather familiar: ‘fiber accidentally cut & oh! We also had a fire‘.

Heard this at least twice before. This is NOT acceptable.

Luckily, because I, given my 45-years in the computer industry, is into REDUNDANT hardware/services also have a TDS Internet feed to the house. Yes, I pay TWO Internet bills each month. I am lucky like that. Yes, so we have two separate Wi-Fi networks. One from ABB and the other from TDS.

But, I like my main PC, i.e., this, to be hardwired. And today for the first time I did it! 2.5 years ago, after another outage, I bought a 200′ Ethernet LAN cable from Amazon for $14. Today, I used it. I had to run it from our 1st floor, where the TDS feed is, to the 4th, which is where my desk is. So, the cable had to traverse three sets of stairs. We did it. Worked first time. I was getting 400Mbps! Yes, 400Mbps! So, I can’t complain. SMILE.

But, having one Internet down still rattles I.

I am going to switch things around. ABB is not a good provider.

~20 HOUR ‘Atlantic Broadband’ Outage, July 10 — 11, 2019, Triggered By Car Crash On Route 107.

This was a long and painful Internet outage. In reality, I really shouldn’t complain since I was not majorly impacted! As I was said many times before I maintain TWO (2) Internet services to the house — one from TDS and the other from Atlantic Broadband — JUST for contingencies like that. And today, yet again, it paid off. I have been talking about a load-balanced system where both Internet feeds are bonded together for years but have yet to do so!

In terms of Wi-Fi we are seamlessly covered. Our mobile devices can easily pick up either router. So, that is not a problem.

To make it worse, my ‘system’ did not automatically come up when Atlantic Broadband finally got everything up. Yes, I was monitoring Facebook.

I had to call them and got a WONDERFUL techie, named ‘Vera’ (who I have dealt with, v. successfully before), who spent 40-minutes helping me go online. Nothing profound. Just a question of repeatedly restarting modem — and then the router — till it all clicked. Stressful BUT it worked. Thanks Vera.

So, that was that saga.
