Unless they have had the misfortune to have been to our house when we tell folks that we just do NOT have any room in the house for new stuff. We really are out of wall space and there just isn’t enough room left though this is not exactly a ultra-small dwelling in that we do have 4-stories of finished living space with around 3,400 sq. ft.

There are, however, somethings that we really can’t walk away from. Some call out to us by name.

IF you study what we did get there is method to the madness. DEFINITE, inescapable overseas motiff. I know where most things come from.

We both wanted the Chinese dragon mask. We have a number of Asian wooden masks and I am very partial to to Chinese dragon masks.

Also a RIOT that we, and you can’t get more heathen than the two of us, both wanted the Madonna and child painting! As soon as I saw it, I knew I was going to get it. Yes, it is Chinese. That nobody else outbid us must tell a tale.

Had to get the ‘Seabiscuit’ ‘Saratoga’ mug. We have been to the racetrack & museum at Saratoga and I am a huge fan of ‘Seabiscuit’.

I, just for the record, collect ‘Coca-Cola‘ memorabilia AND pigs — though of late, ONLY v. special ones.

I knew, without looking, that the BULL was from Spain and was worth getting.

Oh … THE INSULATOR. I collect OLD electrical memorabilia as well.

SMILE.

Haven’t found homes for all, but we will try.

SMILE.

We Won An Halloween-Themed Hamper At The ‘North Barnstead Congregational Church’ 2019 Fair.

They were raffling off quite a few hampers. This, however, was the only one I wanted and as luck would have it, it was the only one we won. Given that it was Halloween themed and all, my adoptive father’s favorite saying about I could still be very true: “The devil takes very good care of his own“. I love that saying.

This hamper was not for I. I just knew someone who would love it and she did. So, that was good.

We won a bunch of stuff in silent auctions too, though we didn’t win as many as we lost. That is ‘OK’ too. We spent a fair amount at this fair as it was.

More pictures tomorrow.

Amazon Now Mailing A PRINTED Toy Catalog, To Kids, For Christmas As If Web Dominance Wasn’t Enough.

by Anura Guruge

I had not heard of this up until one arrived in our mailbox, addressed to the 19-year old (by name), today. Cracked me up. Couldn’t work out whether it was incongruous, an oxymoron or an incongruous oxymoron.

Genius. Despite all the time they spend on their mobiles there is no guarantee that pre-teen kids will spend that much time perusing Amazon. Not sure how parents are going to feel about this. I, as a long term and much beholden Amazon shareholder, loved it. The better Amazon does the more I can spend at Amazon making sure it does even better. In programming we call it ‘recursion’. SMILE.

Kind of amused and surprised that they got the demographics wrong. She is an Amazon customer in her own right and has an Amazon account. I think you have to be 18 to open one on your own. But, I also know that Amazon will iron out the targeting issue by next Christmas.

Both the younger kids (the 19-year old one of them) also happen to be Amazon shareholders. No better gift that you can give a kid. Some Amazon shares. Yes, of course, the earlier you got them the better. But, Amazon at under $1,800 is still not a bad buy. It has been up beyond $2,000. So maybe that is what you really should get your kids for Christmas THOUGH I fully understand that this could break many a budget.

Well, I will have to see

Treasures & Memories From The ‘North Barnstead Congregational Church’ 2019 Fair.

This progressive and inclusive church is exactly 2-miles from my garage door — and I know this for sure since it is a destination on one of my GPS-measured runs/walks. While we, of course, do not go to church there — or at any other church for that matter — we do try to make a point to attend their annual holiday fair. It always has an amazing eclectic collection of ‘stuff’ of interest and you meet the nicest of people. It is a nice, fun, welcoming place. Over the years we have got some ‘crazy’ buys from this fair — the most memorable being a extremely fancy, white wedding dress for $2.

Today’s fair was great. We got a lot of stuff. The pictures above — bar three exceptions — are of the stuff we didn’t get. Can you guess as to the three items we did get. One is very obvious. It looks so much like I that I have tried to pass a picture of it off as a selfie.

I will take pictures of ALL the stuff we bought, won and got. We have a SUV full!

If you are within 45-miles of Barnstead you really should try and attend this fair on a yearly basis. You will be richly rewarded.

He will be sorely missed. Bassist par extraordinaire. This is the sad thing about bassist, including the great George Harrison: their greatness is that you never really notice them! But, as Anatole “Annie” Paquette always makes sure to remind us, it is the bassist, in this case Bob, that holds a group together. Was true with George and is true with Bob. I will miss him. REAL nice guy, not that they are NOT all nice guys. But hopefully I will see him around. Maybe we will do LUNCH. Anatole has promised lunch. {SMILE}

‘Art Harriman’ Leaves Sandwich Fair After 38-Years As Master Of Ceremonies.

by Anura Guruge

Art Harriman, the World record holder for playing the smallest harmonica ever (1″), has been a fixture at Sandwich Fair, N.H., for the 20-years or more that we have been attending.

Monday, October 10, 2016, was, however, his last appearance at Sandwich Fair. It transpires that he has been there, every year, without fail for 38 years! That would mean that he has been there, regaling the punters, since 1978. That is a long time.

I did not know this but it transpires that “Common Man” founder/owner, Alex Ray (who has been providing food at Sandwich for 40 unbroken years), was instrumental in bringing Art to the Fair. Thank you Alex.

My friends, “Annie and The Orphans” have been performing at Sandwich for over 28-years (with a few years gap several years ago). Ironically I called up Art, on the phone, and spoke to him about getting “Annie and The Orphans” back to Sandwich. He was very gracious.

Annie and The Orphans” & Alex Ray gave Art quite the farewell, “Annie …” doing an extended 90(+) minute set. It was moving, but kind of sad. Definitely the end of an era.

Thank YOU, Mr. Art Harriman.

Sandwich will never be the same to us without YOU. We have never known Sandwich without you standing on the stage.
