We did not know about these amazingly creative and cute Fairy Houses until we serendipitously stumbled upon them — quite literally. Having hiked the west side of Monhegan Island we were heading back to the ‘Island Inn‘ (where we were staying) via the ‘Cathedral Woods‘ trail. See map below.

The first one we noticed was a wooden wreath-like structure, at eye-level, mounted on a tree — in what was a natural clearing in the woods. Then we started to realize that we were surrounded by Fairy Houses of all shapes, sizes and creativity. All along the trail for about 100 yards, on both sides and some set well back from the trail. There were even some built along a small stream. Very clever. Nice touch.

I, however, immediately knew that the ‘guardians’ of this MAGICAL island (viz. the ‘Monhegan Associates‘) would not be too happy about this proliferation of human construction. On my many trips to Acadia I had learned that building of stone cairns, a popular pastime for some, is significantly frowned upon (and could even land you in ‘trouble’ if you got caught). I was RIGHT in my contention. ‘They’ would rather that no Fairy Houses were built along the trails — BUT to be magnanimous it has been decided that IF they are to be built it has to be JUST ON that stretch of the ‘Cathedral Woods’ trail.

It appears that I have 117 pictures (at least) of the Fairy Houses of Monhegan Island! See below. I have only posted 30 above. So, I still have 87 more left. I will try and do another post soon. So much more I want to post about this island.

After seeing them in Wolfeboro on New Year’s Eve this year (and staying for 2.5 of their 3 performances that night)
we are what we consider ‘their greatest fans
(though others might disagree).

To say that they are ‘good’ is facile. They are way beyond that.
‘Brilliant’ is more like it.

They put on an amazing SHOW.
It is more than a concert.

It is vaudeville by three very gifted young men.

They sing, they dance, they prance around,
they crack jokes (though here they could get better),
they engage the crowd and ‘Jake‘, the BIG guy,
shamelessly flirts with the ladies.

It was PERFECT for Wolfeboro, the U. S. of A’s oldest Summer Resort,
last night; the first of their free, Saturday night bandstand performances.

By 7 pm, after what had been a very hot day, the temperature was beginning to moderate
(though the boys, bravely dressed in their trademark black suits,
as they should, and as they must, perspired profusely).
There was a beautiful breeze blowing
from a picture perfect Winnipesaukee. There were quite a few boats,
and the boys, thoughtful as ever, had a speaker pointed at the boats.

It was great fun. Deanna bopped, non-stop,  for 2 hours.
I haven’t seen her do that in years.

I danced as I had at their New Year’s Eve concert.

All the kids were mesmerized.

The Band is exceptional. I would think that the drummer is easily the best in NH
(though he might be from MA).

Overall the MOST FUN group in NH — hands down
(and as anybody who reads this blog knows
we go to a LOT of events).

I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to get them gigs all over the State.

We should have them in Alton, but the woman who ‘runs’ Parks & Recs. ignores my e-mails.

Here is their multimedia Website.

They are playing in Laconia August 10.

Book them for your wedding or Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
They will make it beyond memorable.

Thank YOU, BBNG.

Thank YOU, Wolfeboro, NH — for the 2nd time
given that the ‘Fairy Houses‘ were great too.

I am pretty impressed.

It didn’t win any ribbons but we are cool. They enjoyed building it and now have bigger plans for next year.

I made the sign.

Wow, wow, WOW. This should be quite a day in Wolfeboro, NH. Mark your calendars with permanent marker and hope for good weather.

We went, serendipitously, to the ‘Fairy Land Festival‘ last year and were blown away. It was beyond good and fun. We definitely plan to go. Maybe Deanna and the kids will make a house.

As for the ‘Blue Brothers NG what can I say that I have’t raved about before? Probably the most exciting and fun band in NH at the moment! They really rock and make the audience rock with them. Yep, we are going to that concert too — rain or shine. The only time I have stood in the rain to listen to music was for Willie Nelson c. 2000 in Gilford. He, despite a steady rain, came out and played for about 2.5 hours! I was impressed. Always liked him but this really cemented the deal. It was one heck of a concert. Well I will stand in the rain for the ‘Blues Brothers NG’! ‘Nough said? Plus it is FREE.

I can see why the TWO events can’t coincide — and just the picture of the backsides above tell the story. There just isn’t room for both events at the same time at Cate Park. SHAME. IF the ‘folks’ at Wolfeboro had some imagination they would have had the ‘Brothers’ perform from a moored barge — just off the dock. Yes, it can be done. That would have been great.

But, never mind. Maybe I will invite the ‘Brothers’ for a cookout at our beach before the concert.
