Margaret Thatcher (My 2nd Favorite Female PM) Was Born This Day, 92 Years Ago; October 13, 1925. (It Was Not A Friday).

by Anura Guruge

Having, as a student, led a protest march against her I became one of the staunchest supporters as I aged — and started making some ‘serious money’! Yes, I was an out-and-our Conservative by the time I was in my mid-20s.

She was a GREAT Lady.

The 5th female Prime Minister.

I never realized that she was ‘that’ old, i.e., born 1925.

She will be remembered. She did some good things. Got me into the stock market — if nothing else. {Smile}

From the Wikipedia post as above. The ‘Blue’ was Thatcher’s Conservative Party. It was pretty much a landslide. I voted in ‘West End’ — to the NE of Southampton. I marked it on the map. It was a pretty BLUE area. {SMILE}

I do remember this. It was a big day. I voted. Made sure I did. Those days I never missed a chance to vote.

Wow. 38- years ago. Seems like a long time ago.

THANK YOU Mrs. Thatcher. You were great.

Click to ENLARGE. My shelf of favorite paperbacks — with Jim Corbett’s “Man Eaters of Kumaon” definitely on there.

It was indeed quite the coincidence that I saw, when looking through Amazon Prime Instant Video, that there is now a movie, “India: Kingdom of the Tiger“, based on Jim Corbett’s mesmerizing books.

Just last week, on my near daily run, I had been thinking about Jim Corbett and his books. I was wondering whether I should go back and read them again and whether one of the kids might be interested. We are not into hunting BUT I was totally hooked on Jim’s books when I was around 12.

A partial list from Amazon.

My very precise autograph when I was around 12. Click to ENLARGE.

I had them all, in paperback, in Ceylon. As I had said before one of the few highlights of my days growing up in Ceylon was that my adoptive father totally indulged me when it came to books. He a great lover of books. I could get whatever books I wanted, even if it meant they had to be ordered through London. IF there was a series of books, as with Jim Corbett or Enid Blyton, he would get me the whole series. When we left in 1967 I could not take my beloved library of books with me. Hence why I just have ONE Jim Corbett from that collection, my favorite “The Man Eaters of Kumaon”.

I am probably, time permitted, going to reread “Kumaon”. I might them get the others. I am trying NOT to buy too many books of late. Just have too many. Even thinking of getting rid of some I have!

My two shelves of favorite books, one for small paperbacks and the other for larger books.

Ten In New Hampshire: Chinese Buffet Restaurants

Anura Guruge, laughing, picture November 16, 2011.

.by Anura Guruge

A series of personal lists to share MY New Hampshire with any interested browser.
The lists are in no particular order per se, other than those that have particular significance to me are likely to be closer to the top. Annotations at the bottom.

Chinese Buffet Restaurants In NH

.1. Great Buffet II — Portsmouth.

.2. Great Buffet — Manchester.

.3. Red Apple — Concord.

.4. New Hong Kong Buffet — Belmont.

.5. Imperial Buffet & Lounge — Claremont.

.6. Shang Hai Restaurant — Laconia.

.7. Sunrise Buffet — Lebanon.

.8. Grand Buffet — Nashua.

.9. Dynasty Restaurant — Rochester.

10. New Keene Buffet — Keene.

— current favorites. — we still go, but not that often.
— we used to frequent often, but not of late.
— have been there at least once.

The ‘Red Apple’ in Concord used to be our ‘go to buffet’. We used to go there at least once a month, on average. Then we just stopped. Not sure why. There was no particular reason. Now tend to go to ‘Great Buffet II’ in Portsmouth if we really hanker a buffet or happen to be in the area and need food. If we are looking for a buffet in Manchester we go to the ‘Great Buffet’ — which as far as I know, is the only bona fide game in town. Though I have not been for at least two years, I have to say that in terms of sheer quality of the food, the ‘Red Apple’ is probably head and shoulders above the others. The ‘Great Buffet II’ is more expansive but the food is at best average.

I saw him, with his cat, and possibly his daughter, on the sidewalk on the other side of the park to where the Multicultural Day events take place. He was a hit. He gladly stopped and posed for me — though the ‘daughter’ did not want any part of this. He was happy. He was getting all sorts of ‘beanies’ from vendors; he, quite cleverly taking pains to show off one.

I will not pussyfoot around it. I, given my ingrained British antecedents, prefer to refer to small felines in British parlance. Thus, I could make quite a few hilarious one lines as to why this guy looks so happy, but Deanna will shout at me and say that I am being crude. So, I will, alas, refrain (possibly to your loss). But, it cracks me up. Made my day.
