actorWhere does the expression “break a leg” used as a “all the best” wish for performers (e.g., actors, singers etc.) come from?

periodictablemutedYes, folks have known about gold, silver, tin, copper, lead, mercury and arsenic for a long time. But there had been no science behind their discovery. The first scientific discovery of an element took place in the 17th century. What was that element? You will be surprised and even more as to ‘from what‘ it was discovered.

Yesterday’s ‘Think’How do trees gain height? Trees, contrary to what you might first believe, do NOT grow from the bottom up. In other words the vertical growth (i.e., height) doesn’t occur from the ground level. That is why a bird box attached to a tree at eye level, or a carving made on a tree trunk, does not continue to move upwards, year after year. The vertical growth of trees occur from the BUDS outwards. So the growth takes place at the top. Here is a REALLY cool time lapse animation.
