‘Fitbits’ Fancy, New, Fitness & Wellness Tracker, The ‘Luxe’ Appears To Be Late.

by Anura Guruge

Click to access listing at ‘HRM USA’, the ONLY place to get Garmin or Fitbit products.

This is NOT (I repeat NOT) isolated to ‘HRM USA‘ — one of the largest reseller of Fitbit & Garmin products. You can’t even get it directly from Fitbit & as hard as I tried I couldn’t even find a listing on Amazon.

I am supposed to check it out. That is why I went looking this morning. I vaguely remembered that it was due to be available towards the end of the month. Well, we are pretty close.

I will, of course, keep you posted.

The ‘OnePlus Watch’ Released Today Gets Absolutely & Utterly Panned — Thrashed! Wow.

— & they are a respected outfit when it comes to gadgets.

Wow. I was NOT expecting that. As the reviewer herself notes, ‘OnePlus’ is noted for delivering very slick & comparatively affordable phones. So, this was a huge surprise.

I was curious about this watch. Though we have never owned a OnePlus phone I have read plenty of good reviews about them.

How can you get the step count off by more than 10,000. That is mind blowing.

As some of you know, I check the step counts on Garmins, Fitbits & OCCASIONALLY Polar & Amazfit. I expect to see some of them off by say 1%. This is damning. Didn’t they TEST. I am at a loss.

Why bother to release a watch if it has so many faults.

A whole team needs to be FIRED.

Well, that is that. I will not bother looking at this watch.

Fitbit ‘Sense’ Is Uncannily Accurate When It Comes To Steps, Heart Rate, Floors & GPS.

by Anura Guruge

After 10K steps.

On Sunday morning I walked 11,001-steps with a Fitbit SENSE & a $900 Garmin Fenix 6 Pro Solar strapped side-by-side on my my left wrist.

The SENSE recorded 11,001 steps, the Fenix 6 10,955 (once corrected for 330+ steps already recorded), i.e., 46-step difference over 11K.

The Fenix 6 tends to be fairly accurate. So, if the SENSE is that close — we are GOOD. I am impressed. You probably can’t get better than that.

HR was pretty much the same. Again, I was impressed. Ditto floors climbed & we are talking 600 feet of elevation change. Fitbit & Garmin registered the same. WOW. GPS was also very close. I have tested dozens of smartwatches over the last 3-years. This was as accurate as I have seen it. In terms of accuracy we are GOOD. Attractive too. Nice bright display. For the price, we have a winner.

Fitbit ‘Sense’ (From ‘HeartRate Monitors USA’), Attractive, ECG, GPS & Stress Management.

Side-by-Side with Fitbit ‘Versa 2‘.

Thanks to ‘HRM USA‘ we got a Fitbit ‘Inspire’ today — so we can check it out. When it comes to Fitbit’s my wife is the expert, whereas my speciality & druthers is Garmin.

She has been wearing a Fitbit ‘Versa 2‘ for over a year & loves it. It was kind of hard to get her to part with it so as to try the Inspire.

At first sight, as you can see from the two pictures above, they look very similar. But, I think the Inspire is fractionally smaller & appears to have a fancier, slightly domed screen.

The Inspire, like the Versa 2, has an awesome, eye-pleasing display.

The ECG functionality is built-in, straight out of the box & easy enough to use. You can see the results above.

Very impressed so far. I will keep you posted. I will take it walking with me later this week to check out the step count & GPS.

Garmin ‘Venu SQ (Music)’: GPS Distance, HR, Pace etc. Very Accurate. Very Slight Overcounting Of Steps.

by Anura Guruge

I have done two walks with the Venu SQ with it side-by-side (on my left wrist) next to my Fenix 6 Solar PRO.

One walk last night was just under a mile; this morning’s walk was 5.45 miles.

GPS distance was within 0.03-mile. 5.45 on the Fenix vs 5.48 on the Venu SQ. That is not bad. On the short night walk the Venu was out by just 10-steps! Over the 5.45-miles it overcounted by 320 steps. That, from my experience, is not bad at all, at all.

GPS distance on the Fenix 6 is fairly reliable. I have checked it against multiple other Fenixs, a MARQ, Fitbits, Polars, AMAZFITs not to mention phones & cars. Difficult to ever get two devices to be exactly spot on re. GPS, but my Fenix 6 is within the acceptable band. I test all other watches against it – at least to start with. I am happy with the Venu SQ. I have seen some HOWLERS this year – though not from Garmin. SMILE. So, that is all good & encouraging. 3% overcount is tolerable. I am sure I could optimize it if I messed around with stride length. Started using the Venu SQ as my primary (& thus only) watch as of this afternoon. I have tried some new watch faces & a very FINE all-in-one Data Field for walking. With that one Data Field I get all the data, on one screen, as I was with a customized screen on my Fenix 6. More on that on a later review. For now – thumbs up.

Please click to access the “Heart Rate Monitors USA” (HRM USA) product page. You will not regret it. ONLY place to buy Garmins & Fitbits in the U.S. Honest.

Garmin ‘Venu SQ’ Leaked — Already On Sale — At ‘HSN.com’, Ahead Of Announcement.

by Anura Guruge

Would appear they jumped the gun. That they are only offering grey is another clue that they somehow did NOT wait for Garmin’s announcement. Maybe they were confused given that it was supposed to be announced last week.

Garmin’s announcement of the ‘Venu SQ‘ is said to be towards the end of this month, i.e., September 2020.

Garmin Delays Announcement Of ‘Venu SQ’ (for Square) — Just Unveils ‘Forerunner 745’!

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE & view here. Google for more.

The ‘Venu SQ’ was SUPPOSED to be announced September 16, 2020, alongside the ‘Forerunner 745’. Well that did NOT happen. Instead Garmin just announced the latest ‘Forerunner’.

The ‘Venu SQ’ is supposedly delayed until month end (if not longer). Not good. Usually Garmin would have gone ahead & announced & then stated a 6-9 week shipment delay.

Maybe they realized that they have to go back to an AMOLED screen! WOW.

Fitbit’s New ‘Sense’ (Shipping In October) Gets FDA Approved ECG/EKG Heart Monitoring Support.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE & read. From fitbit.com.

Yes, Apple ‘Watch Series 4’ pioneered ECG/EKG way back in 2018. This is, however, Fitbit’s first foray into this field. That it has got US FDA approval is BIG. Samsung is still struggling to get this approved on their new ‘Watch 3’. That must be galling for them.

The Fitbit ‘Sense’, at $329, is quite the watch. It has built-in GPS & all the latest health tracking features. Most impressive Fitbit ever — & it even has an AMOLED, always-on display with a 6-day battery life. This is quite the watch & it is $100 cheaper than the Samsung ‘Watch 3’. Hopefully I will get one, in October, from ‘Heart Rate Monitors USA‘ (HRM USA) to evaluate. I will keep you posted. OK?

Garmin’s New ‘Venu SQ’ (for Square) Abandons AMOLED Display & Reverts To LCD; A Shame.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE & view here. Google for more.

What set out the Venu from all other Garmins was the bright, beautiful AMOLED display. And yes, AMOLED is a battery hog & that did not sit well with Garmin. Garmin likes to provide longer battery life at the expense of more striking screens. That is a problem.

But, abandoning AMOLED, in late 2020, on this type of watch is a mistake. With its shape it is going after the Fitbit Versa 2 & Apple. The Versa 2 has a great AMOLED display.

To compound matters there is also the new Samsung Watch 3 — with another v. attractive AMOLED display further augmented with a rotating bezel.

The Venu SQ will face stiff competition from these two. I will keep you posted.

What IF Garmin Supposed Ransomware Attack Is A DISGUISED Hack From China (Or Google)?

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE & skim. From ‘Google News’.

Click image to access my post from 4-days ago.

I was at least 4-hours AHEAD of the pack. As soon as I heard that Garmin had been down for a ‘few’ hours I suspected a HACK. It was much, much later that others cottoned onto this & the rumors of the ransomware surfaced.

I am, however, still NOT convinced.

Being the professional cynic that I am (& a pioneering hacker from the early the 1970s) I have doubts.

What if the supposed ransomware is BUT a ruse to cover up a MASSIVE hack. Yes, the files & data has been encrypted per ransomware, BUT what if they sucked up all the data beforehand.

I am convinced, rightly or wrongly, that we are headed for a major cyber war with China. I think China is trying out their technology & tactics all over the place, Australia in particular. I have a theory that this could be China trying it out on a medium size US company — though I think many of the Garmin servers are in Europe.

Then again, it might be Google! Remember they are in the process of buying up FitBit. Plus, they are HUNGRY for fitness/health data. By hacking Garmin they get access to millions of active users!

Think about it.

P.S., I am a Garmin shareholder, & yes, I sold some of my GRMN shares today, on the news. SMILE.
