Given how uncooperative TEAM KIA Concord was in getting us the Gas Milage Rebate Card that we were due, and how they jerked us around when we wanted to lease a KIA Sedona earlier this year, we decided it was time to find another KIA dealership for our service needs.

We know AutoServ in Tilton. We even have two friends that work there. So we decided to try AutoServ KIA. What I had not realized is that they are in Belmont and not in Tilton — moreover they are on Rte 106 as opposed to the strip across from the Belmont Mall.

We took out Sportage there yesterday for its 15,000 oil change.

Let me say up front, very nice, very pleasant, very helpful folks and I had two good conversations with two of the salesman — one of them who I knew by reputation given that he had been involved in a number of Lakes Region ventures in the past.

The building, which is the old McGreevy dealership (that I used to visit and returned a leased Cadillac STL to in 2004), is a mess. It is so sorely in need of major, major refurbishing. It is dingy and dirty!

Given that the Service Area waiting room is small, loud and claustrophobic, I talked to a very nice salesman and got ‘permission’ to sit in the sales area (showroom) and read my book. Deanna joined a few minutes later.

The showroom was shabby. Ripped, stained and unmatched seats. But this is what floored me. I looked at one of the rolling office seats provided for the salesman. As is the norm it had a base with castors on it. The base was COATED in dust! Caked on dust! Yes, there was mud too — but I can buy that because this is mud season. Caked on dust means that nobody had cleaned this chair in months, if not years.

What gives?

The Tilton facility is all glitz and very fancy. They even have a gym!

I have been to used car places that were nicer than this.

I really felt bad for the salespeople. Can’t be fun working in a place like that.

We were there for nearly two hours. They were having computer woes too! That delayed check-in by 20 minutes. Not amused.

We did not see a single customer walk in — though to be fair it was a Wednesday morning.

I would NOT buy a car from there! If they are so cheap about maintaining their showroom I have to assume that they will nickel and dime me for every cent and more.

PLUS, doesn’t KIA (USA) demand certain standards?

Obviously NOT.

This was the last straw when it comes to KIA/Hyundai.

We have had either a Hyundai or a KIA since June 2008. Yes, I liked the pricing and the warranty. But, I guess you get what you pay for.

We still have 15 months left on this lease.

I am just going to dump it the DAY the lease expires and run as fast as I can from KIA.

Yes, it was a mistake to go with Hyundai/KIA.

I should stick with American even IF it will cost me more.

Maybe it is time to go and pester my friends at Cantin in Laconia. I know that they ‘just’ redid their facility — and it was never as bad as KIA Belmont.

Amazing. Amazing. Amazing.

Oh … they said that there was coffee. Yes, they had a coffee maker, but NO cups or coffee. I went an got my travelling mug from the car. But then the whole area was so grungy that I decided that I will wait.

Deanna came back and complained that the sink in the ladies was dirty.

I think that was what is REALLY missing at this dealership. I did not see any females. They would NOT permit a place to get so shabby.

Amazing. Amazing. Amazing.

Shame.

Plus they don’t have a car wash! I can’t remember the last time I had a car serviced without getting a car wash.

duplicityI have had it with KIA and Hyundai. We have owned Hyundai/KIA for the last 6 six years — BUT NEVER AGAIN. The lease on our KIA Sportage ends next June and I will NEVER get a KIA/Hyundai again. I don’t joke about such matters. I hate being exploited.

I like the cars. It is the outright DUPLICITY of the KIA dealership hierarchy, top-to-bottom, that bothers me, greatly.

That KIA thought that they could LIE to the U.S. customers about their mileage ratings still amazes me. That takes a lot of balls and lets face it a penchant for duplicity. That bothers me. IF they will lie about that what else are they lying about. Could they be lying about the air bags? Safety?

Let me tell you how they have scammed us with this alleged gas rebate. Contrary to what somebody commented here we are entitled to a gas rebate on the Sportage. KIA USA says we are eligible to a $153 rebate. It gets better. They say they sent us a card! Well we never got one. So Deanna kept on pressing them. Eventually they said this is whom we sent the card to. It wasn’t us! Somebody had put a different name and address against OUR VIN number for the card. Wasn’t us. We can’t change that. But basically somebody had our $153 gas card diverted to someone else. Strange … right? They say they paid “us”, as they were supposed to — it is just that we never got the card! How convenient.

So Deanna has been calling KIA USA, like every week. $153 is $153. They say that they are trying to help us. They wanted Deanna to fill the paperwork again. Then we had to hand deliver it to the dealership. That was in early January. Deanna just talked to KIA USA again … just now … which is why this post. She talked to them last week and the week before that. The dealership is NOT forwarding the paperwork to them! KIA USA claims (and who knows how true that is) that they have called the dealership asking them for the paperwork — obviously to no avail. Strange … right?

Bottom line: we still don’t have the $153 owed to us. That is a FACT. 

I just talked to the Manager. I have had it. They just don’t give a damn.

KIA Sedona

I am NOT making this up.

This is per KIA U.S.A.

They lease their other vehicles,
and we have a KIA Sportage (on lease),
BUT NOT the Sedona.

Why? Because you can only lease things that have a residual value at the end of the lease.

If a product is worth $0 at the end of the lease, the leasing company loses money.

Leasing is contingent on the product having a reasonable residual value at the end of the lease.

So by refusing to lease the Sedona KIA is telling YOU, very plainly, this van will not have any resale value after 3 years.
We don’t want to own it and have it back in our hands.

If you are stupid enough BUY it and then you can get rid of it for scrap at the end of 3 years.

Thank YOU KIA.

You stopped me from making an expensive mistake.

Bravo.
I wish other car manufacturers would be as truthful as KIA.

#167. On Tuesday we, as a family, were watching a Hallmark movie. Come bedtime for the kids, I stopped the movie using the STOP button. That took us back to the recorded event ‘box’ — which has the options listed on the left hand side starting with PLAY, RESUME etc. DONE is right at the bottom. So I am scrolling down to DONE when the screen goes blank. No sound. Another bloody black screen from DirecTV. Could not go back to before. used Channel select to get out. Then checked movie via LIST. It was still there. Damn strange. Very annoying.

#168. Selecting FAVORITES, with either remote, has become a total bloody crap shoot. Hardly ever works first time. You got to keep on pressing it hoping that it will work. Amazing. Pitiful engineering. Cheap technology. Useless company.

#157 – #166. As is my norm, being a news junkie, around 6:30 pm today (later than usual since we went swimming in the lake), I sat down in front of the big TV and turned the bloody Genie and the TV on. Blank screen. BLACK. Nothing. NADA. Again. Messed around. Turned it all off and turned it on again. Nothing. Then tried other channels. Bing. A picture. Tried CNBC. A bloody screen, with blaring music, saying Direc-bloody-TV is experiencing technical bloody problems. Well in my books they are experiencing problems all the time. No CNN. No CNBC. MSNBC is fine. CNN was back in about an hour. CNBC is still down. At 8pm I came up and did a Google. Appears that this ‘Direc-bloody-TV is experiencing technical bloody problems’ happens OFTEN! Went to the Technical Forum. Found the above message. I hate DirecTV. This counts as at least 10 bloody grievances since I tried to get CNN that many times.

Bloody DirecTV.

#153. Saturday morning I was watching 202, i.e., CNN. I then wanted to watch local news. So punched in 9. ‘9’ appeared at the top as the selected channel. Then the TV screen (and this is on the Genie ‘piece of garbage’ Mini) went black. Dead. Nothing. Nothing. NADA. Just a dead screen. Happened before. Had to use Channel Down. Got Channel 7. Then had to use Channel Up to get 9. Worked fine the 2nd time around.

#154. Genie ‘piece of garbage’ Mini: overall performance is so slow that when you are scrolling down the TV GUIDE it can’t keep up with the Go Up (or Go Down) entries on the remote. So they are buffered. Every once in awhile it catches up … and then goes crazy … does like 20 up (or down) motions at once! It is so pathetic.

#155. Selecting FAVORITES, especially on the Genie ‘piece of garbage’ Mini, takes for ever and a bit longer. You punch the ‘up arrow’ expecting to get the selection box. Nothing. Nothing. NADA. Just when you think it never got it and are getting ready to punch it again, the box comes up. We are talking frozen molasses slow. It is like the Genie is constipated — solid. The Genie and the Genie Mini are not ready for Prime Time. They are still in the early stages of development — riddled with bugs, like maggots on an old hamburger. Unmitigated junk.

#156. I can’t be 100% sure on this so I am listing this with a caveat. On Saturday night, I am sure (I think), that I scheduled Genie ‘piece of garbage’ Mini to record a Zack Brown special. Typically I do all of my recording requests, downstairs, on the Genie. Well, next morning, i.e. Sunday, I went looking for it. Not recorded. Now it is possible that I screwed up. I don’t think so, but I will give DirecTV the benefit of the doubt on this one.

#151. It did it AGAIN. Recorded the same movie TWICE. #51 & #147. As I have said before, I record a lot of movies especially when I have subscription to the premium movie channels. Then I can go for months without a sub. catching up on our backlog. So I hit record whenever I see a promising title. I can’t keep track of what I have already recorded. That is why we have computers. Bloody Genie. Bloody DirecTV. They are so stupid.

#152. The unresponsiveness of the Genie Remote Control when you first get going is getting beyond a joke. We sit there in front of the TV without being able to do nothing other than mutely watch the channel that is playing. The delay seems to be getting longer and it was already at around 4 minutes.

#149. It happened again … NO PLAYBACK of recorded program on the Genie ‘piece of garbage’ Mini. This time it was movie. I wanted to check it out to see what it was like. Selected it from the recorded list and hit play. BLACK, bloody screen. Same as #144. Nothing. NADA. Not even static. Had to punch 202 and get out. Tried again. Nothing. Then I hit FF … after a few minutes got video! This is garbage.

#150. Activating MUTE on the Genie ‘piece of garbage’ Mini continues to confound me. Not a record. #125. 4 attempts this morning. Record is bloody 6.

#147. The bloody Genie actually did IT. It recorded the same movie twice and even created a folder to store the 2 copies of the movie! I had discovered this bug on July 2. See #51. This time I didn’t spot the duplicate. But, I noticed I had a new folder. Same movie twice. How stupid can you get.

#148. Discovered today that Genie being on doesn’t really help with the no response from remote controller for 4 minutes problem. The TV has to be on too! Amazing.

#144. This morning, while having my coffee (in bed), I decided to continue watching the Smithsonian ChannelThe Real Story: The Da Vinci Code‘ documentary I had been watching the day before [I a Da Vinci code buff (as you might expect)]. I selected it from the LIST and hit resume. Screen went black. Nothing. I tried FF. Nothing. Just another black screen. No video. I hit 202, went back to watching CNN and then hit LIST again. Selected the show. No RESUME! As if I had never watched the show. Only option was PLAY. So I had to FF. Bloody Genie ‘piece of unmitigated garbage’ Mini.

#145. I discovered that fiddling with the battery cover on the Genie Mini remote is equivalent to PREV! I kid you not. I just pressed it out a bit. Did NOT even open it wide enough to see the batteries. I then pushed it shut. It immediately went from CNN to CNBC! It did a PREV.

#146. This evening, yet again, I am trying to work out how many programs I have recorded. I went through all the damn menus. There is an HISTORY that tells me that I have recorded 360 programs in 31 days. But not how many I currently have in my LIST. How stupid can you be. Idiots. Morons.
