I Traded-Up To A ‘Garmin Fenix 5 Plus’ With The ‘HRM USA’ ‘Garmin VIP Club’ Program.

My new Garmin Fenix 5 Plus.

Of course, this was inevitable — especially since the “VIP Club” makes it so easy and affordable.

Just got the Garmin Fenix 5 Plus Sapphire, black-on-black, this morning. It looks the same as the Fenix 5 though the face, in reality, is a bit sharper and clearer. That is probably the Sapphire glass.

I had had my Garmin Fenix 5 for 5 months and 5 days. Not bad for I. Pretty good. I was hoping to make the 6-month mark, but succumbed.

Of course, I like it. LOVE THE MAPS. GPS on your wrist. Accurate too.

Setting it up was more finicky than I would have liked. Insisted on doing the first firmware update over Bluetooth though I had charged it connected to Garmin Express! I can’t confirm it yet but I think the ‘Plus’ USB ‘behavior’ is different to that of past Garmin’s — at least with Windows 7. I will have to confirm that.

Music is a non-starter for I. I like to think while I run. Music would just be a distraction. I can’t think deeply enough with music.

Well, I will keep you posted.

P.S., You really should joint the “VIP Club“. Best thing that happened to Garmin since GPS!

P.P.S., HRM USA, nicest folks ever, let me hold onto my Fenix 5 till the Fenix 5 Plus arrived.

I Have Now Had My Garmin Fenix 5 For 4-Months.

The 4-months have flown by — quicker than I realized. During those 4-months it has been on my wrist every day, bar when I charge it, or take it off to dry my skin behind it — and the watch itself.

It feels SO NATURAL on my wrist. I am totally at ease with it. Huge difference to the 90-days I forced myself to wear the dread Fitbit Ionic — as penance for the stupidity of buying it.

I was aware of the Fitbit Ionic each and every day I had it on. Though I use my Fenix 5, every day, it never feels like an imposition.

It hasn’t given me any grief per se.

Two things that I am crushingly disappointed about:

  1. How it measures STEPS while you are on a bumpy vehicle,
  2. How its open-water swimming measurements are utter garbage.

Both of them should, and could, be fixed. We must have a ‘widget’/function that lets us TURN-OFF step counting. That will stop it recording bogus steps.

It has to improve its open-water swimming mechanism.

Other than that, I am happy with it.

Yes, one of these days I will make use of my ‘Heart Rate Monitors USA‘ ‘Garmin VIP Club‘ membership (and I think I was a founding member) to upgrade to a Garmin Fenix 5 Plus. I will keep you posted.

“Garmin VIP Club”, For Making UPGRADING Easier With Trade-Ins, By ‘Heart Rate Monitors USA’.

— just $9.99.

This BRILLIANT for folks like I who like the latest technology on our wrist. Essentially an easy, guaranteed UPGRADE path without having the hassle of trying to sell your current Garmin.

I signed up at once … at once. At $9.99 it was a no-brainer. Don’t tell them BUT, I would have paid MORE for this privilege! {Smile}

Amazon, in 2016 – 2017, had a trade-in program. I used in a bunch of times to keep up with my need to change cameras. Now that they don’t have that, I am delighted that HRM USA has stepped into the breach.

The program, alas, is NOT — I repeat ‘NOT’ — retroactive; i.e., it does NOT apply to Garmins we already have. Only to those we purchase after we become members. That is a bummer. That means you still have to ‘finance’ your next Garmin upgrade on your own.

But, do not wait. Sign Up.

Yes, this means you end up being tied to HRM USA when it comes to buying your Garmins. From my experience that is not a bad thing. I have bought three Garmins from them so far — plus a Fitbit Ionic. So, I have no issues with that.

Well, I have done my duty and told you about this.

P.S., I saw it on my Facebook timeline last thing last night. So, in case you were wondering as to how I hear about this.
