The ice makers on two of them, the Samsung & the Whirlpool, packed up — on the Samsung within 4-months & on the Whirlpool after 18-months. Folks, including those at Best Buy, keep on saying that ice makers are the bane of modern refrigerators. But, ‘we’ (and by that I do include myself) are so dependent on ice makers and ice water from the fridge.

It all started in April 2017. The GE that came with this house (both of which were new when we bought the house in 2007) packed up exactly one-month after its 10th anniversary! Talk about planned obsolescence.

We then got the Samsung. Ice maker packed up after 4-months. So, we were still under warranty. But, it took four (4) torturous months before we could get bloody Samsung to get around to addressing the problem. They told Best Buy (where we bought it from) to take it back and give us our money back. We then bought the Whirlpool — at Best Buy’s recommendation. They also ‘suggested’ we get the ‘Geek Squad‘ warranty.

Then, the ice maker on the Whirlpool stopped working. Geek Squad was here pretty quickly but they messed around for 2-months replacing parts. Then they said we could get a NEW one BUT we had to pay the new price. Plus, the ‘Geek Squad’ warranty ends and you have to buy another one! What a ‘deal’. Cost us $270 to get the new LG.

So, that is where we are. This is crazy. 4 refrigerators in 24 months.

‘Air India’ Boeing 787 Loses A Window Within 24-Hours Of The Southwest 737 Fatal Mishap!

This was NOT as serious as the Southwest Boeing 737 window blowout incident. In this case the window per se did not break or get sucked out. It was the internal window panel that came off.

Nonetheless three passengers were injured from panels coming loose — all due to unexpected, intense turbulence.

Strange that we have two reports of Boeing jets having window issues within 24-hours, though in both cases Boeing really can’t be blamed — other than if the Southwest incident was due to metal fatigue. Actually that will probably be GE — who made the engine, as if GE didn’t already have enough problems.

Just wanted to make sure you heard of this incident.

I Had No Idea That They Delivered Large Refrigerator/Freezers Using Just Shoulder Harnesses.

This was the Samsung, from Best Buy, we had delivered — to replace a 13 month old GE. Click to ENLARGE. 289 pounds.

I can’t honestly remember the last time I saw a refrigerator being delivered. Can’t even remember the last time I bought one or have one that needed replacing. All the many houses I have bought over the years came with appliances.

Ditto for this current house which we bought 10 years and 1 month ago.

Yes, 10 years and 1 month ago — and last week the GE Fridge/Freezer decided that it was time for its planned obsolescence. I have since discovered that the lifespan of a ‘modern’ fridge is 8 – 10 years, whereas older ones would last 30 years or more. That would explain why I can’t remember ever buying a new fridge.

I wondered how they were going to take out the old GE (for a $15 fee) and bring in the new 289 pound Samsung.

I had visions of dollies and ramps such that those used by movers.

When I didn’t see a dolly I actually JOKED without ever realizing how close I would be by saying: “what are you going to do, throw it on your back and carry it in?” He replied: “yep, pretty much”.

And he wasn’t joking.

Never seen anything like this. Damn impressive.

But I am NOT sure whether it is safe, wise or advisable.

We also learned that they get no special training as such about avoiding back injury and other damage.

I also learned that they might do 6 such deliveries a day.

Wow.

Yes, definitely quicker and easier than using a dolly, BUT I can see the potential for disaster.

I am surprised that this is permitted. They are taking quite the risk.
