Wow. It is GOOD. No issues. Nothing negative. All positive. 2020 Beaujolais Nouveau 2020 (from Georges Duboeuf) is a BRIGHT SPOT in this unusual year.

It is quite tangy (on the first sip). That is the tannin. Tannin is a trademark of red wines in general, & Beaujolais Nouveau in particular. So, that is not a bad thing. I could smell the tanginess in the bouquet. I like the bite of tannin, so this was a PLUS in my book.

Robust, deep & TAUT giving it a mature feel. Yes, there is a nice, lingering berry-flavored aftertaste. All good. Of course, it is a full-bodied wine. A deep red.

If you like reds you will relish this. Easy to like.

It is NOT a sweet, light — flippant — wine. It is NOT meant to be.

I think it is a winner. I will drink all 4 bottles of my current batch with pleasure. I most likely will buy a few more.

I got to the Rochester (NH) Liquor Store just after 1pm. From what I could see only two bottles had been sold. This years price is $12.99. WOW. Up $2 from last year. It wasn’t that long ago that it was $7.99. SMILE. C’est la vie.

It is worth $12.99. SMILE.

Enjoy.

Cheers.

‘Georges Duboeuf’, The Provisioner Of My Beloved ‘Beaujolais Nouveau’, Has Passed On (Aged 89) — I Salute Him.

Given that I grew up and came of age in Britain, in the 1970s, I have known of ‘Beaujolais Nouveau‘ all my adult life. I, a lover of all forms of Beaujolais (Beaujolais Fleurie in particular), started celebrating ‘Beaujolais Nouveau Day‘, i.e., Third Thursday of November, in Britain, with gusto, around 1980. Soon I was hosting a ‘Beaujolais Nouveau Day’ party, in a London restaurant — when I was the Customer Support Manager for ITT Business Systems (UK).

I carried over the tradition to the U.S.

In the U.K. you were not restricted to ‘Beaujolais Nouveau’ just from ‘Georges Duboeuf’. You could get many different bottlings.

Not so in the U.S. — at least up here in New Hampshire. It is all from ‘Georges Duboeuf’. That is OK.

Over the years I have got used to getting my Nouveau from ‘Georges Duboeuf’ and doing my review.

I am sorry to see Georges passing. He had to have been a good and great man.

I salute him and as he would want me to, I say ‘Cheers’ holding up a glass of red.

‘Georges Duboeuf’ Loves My Review Of The ‘Beaujolais Nouveau 2019’.

Appeared on my Facebook timeline yesterday. Made me SMILE.

I would have been quite surprised IF they hadn’t loved it! It is a very positive, upbeat review — which it had to be given that I did love the wine.

But, also surprised that they left it at that. They don’t have many reviews this year. I would have thought that they would have shared my post. C’est la vie. I am cool. It was their call. Their loss. SMILE.

Beaujolais Nouveau 2019 [Georges Duboeuf] — THE Review: Very Fruity, Much Milder, Tangy But V. Smooth; Extremely Pleasant.

Anura Guruge November 2019 Beaujolais Nouveau

By far the fruitiest it has been in many years. That is NOT a bad thing. Feels very organic, makes you one with the earth. Yes, of course, there is the tanin but the fruitiness distracts from it — one could even say overpowers it. That, to I, is the highlight of the Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau 2019 — it is noticeably ‘fruity’. That is GOOD. Makes it very easy and pleasant on the palate. You might have to be careful. It is, from what I can see, extremely easy to imbibe.

When I opened the bottle there wasn’t much of a bouquet. That worried me slightly, but it was unnecessary. This is a decent Beaujolais Nouveau.

It is probable that wine connoisseurs will scoff it as being too sweet and ‘mellow’. C’est la vie. This is Beaujolais Nouveau, and by definition it does not set out to be pretentious. It is $10.99 a bottle this year. Not sure whether it has, again, gone up a $1 since last year. It wasn’t that long ago when it was $7.99. But, at $10.99 it is NOT BAD — actually it is quite good.

I like it. But, I am not a poseur. I have simple, humble tastes that becomes and befits my humble roots and modest circumstances. SMILE. I am not into indulging in $60 bottles of wine.

I like a wine that is congenial. Wine that doesn’t demand — cry out for — attention. Alas, I rarely have time for social drinking! I imbie while I am writing or watching cricket on TV. I want my wine to be pleasing but not be the center of attention. This Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau 2019 does that. It is a very congenial, convivial wine. I love it.

I know that the 5 bottles I got will be gone soon. That will not be a problem.

I like it, I like it a lot. It is very easy on the palate and gentle on your well-being. It is pleasant and silky. That fruitiness is near ‘priceless’.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. SMILE.

Cheers.

Beaujolais Nouveau 2018 Anura Guruge

I was hooked on it after the second sip. Rich, velvety and robust. I am a habitual red wine drinker and this comes across as a wine punching well above its weight.

It does belies its newness; it comes across as more cultured than what one expects from a Nouveau.

It definitely is reminiscent of the Beaujolais Nouveaus from the last few years and that is not a bad thing (at all) since we lucked out in those years.

I would, indubitably, call this a ‘GOOD ONE’.

Last year’s was a good and this, to I, seems marginally better. A touch of unexpected velvetiness that makes it feel rich and fulfilling.

I like it. I like it a lot.

Georges Duboeuf yet again appears to have done us proud.

Yes, of course, it has the tannin that it is supposed to — which makes it tart and ‘tight’. But, that goes with the territory so to speak. If it wasn’t tart it would not be a Beaujolais Nouveau.

Yes, it also has a very pleasant fruity aroma. A touch of berries.

As is my wont I made a special trip and bought four bottles. Yes, the price has gone up again — by a dollar, I think. Not much in the overall scheme of things, but still a shame. Keeping it under $10 made it feel like a bargain.

Bottom Line: a very decent wine that is punching well above its weight.

You really should try it out.

Happy Beaujolais Nouveau 2018.

Cheers.

Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau 2017 — THE Review: Bitingly Tart, Lingering & Aromatic — Another ‘Keeper’.

by Anura Guruge

Do NOT judge it on your first sip! {Smile} Give it a few sips and a few minutes.

Yes, your initial, overriding reaction is likely to be that it is TART. Yes, it is. But, tartness, from the tannin, is a hallmark of Beaujolais Nouveau. I guess it has to do with its ‘newness’.

Marked tartness has been a feature of Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau over the last 4-years. Of course I can’t tell you, exactly, whether the 2017 is more tart than what was the 2014.

In these reviews, which I have now done for a few years, totally on my own dime (without ANY help or interaction, whatsoever from Georges Duboeuf), I set out to be totally upfront. There is no reason for me to sugarcoat anything.

So, here we go.

The tartness grew on me — i.e., after a few sips I kind of liked it. It is a lingering tartness.

More aromatic than last year’s — I am sure.

Not bad at all, at all — after the first few sips.

It is, as was last year’s, a rather robust red. Very bold and in your palette. Those that like a full-bodied red will have no issues with it. Those with a more ‘delicate’ palette may find it too ‘in your face’.

Definite keeper — as has been the Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau over the last few years.

I am looking forward to my 2nd half-glass.

Once you get used to its tartness it goes down WELL.

I am happy.

Happy Beaujolais Nouveau 2017.

I will write another review after I have drunk a bottle — which will be by tomorrow. {Smile}

Cheers.
