Happy Sinhala New Year, Avurudu, 2018 To You All & Happy “Vaisakhi” Too.

by Anura Guruge

Painted by me when I was between 6 – 8 years old,
i.e., 1959 to 1961, while still living in Ceylon.
Kind of ‘Mount Lavinia‘ are I would think.

Dawning of the 2018 New Year will be TODAY,
in the U.S. & Canada —

Friday, April 13 at 4:34pm.

[2:04am in Sri Lanka on April 14].

Happy Sinhala New Year 2017.

The 3rd New Year of the Year for I.
But you can never have too many.

Enjoy. Rejoice.

This year, now that I know, I am also including my Sikh friends in this
with their “Vaisakhi“.

As I have mentioned previously I am, for reasons that baffle me, on the Hammacher Schlemmer mailing and catalog list. I am way, way, way TOO POOR to afford anything that they have to sell. Long time ago I bought a supposedly folding, crank to generate electricityslot-car racing kit from them — for the kits. It was fun and it worked but it did NOT fold as well as was portrayed and that was the main reason for getting it. Being able to fold it, near ‘flat’, and put it away when it was not being used. Deanna insisted on returning it. This was maybe 6 years ago. Have not ordered anything from them since. I would LOVE that ‘Barbecue Dining Boat‘. $50,000! Yep, pigs would fly.

Plus to be honest the SAME ITEMS are available on Amazon for the same price, if not less. Yes, I plan to get some ‘Sidewinding Circular Skates‘ for the kids. Given my Prime membership (not to mention shareholding of Amazon) it would just be easier for me to get them from Amazon.

I am pretty sure that they will crack this in a couple of years BUT for now all these goodies can ONLY be delivered within Sri Lanka. So, NO — you can’t have it delivered in the U.S., and more the shame. Yes, for one the prices would have to change, but all U.S. Sri Lankans (and I am not one) are filthy rich and money is never an issue. So I am surprised that Kapruka hasn’t extended this to include items shipped from Sri Lanka — or made in the U.S. Having food sent over could be an issue. But, all of this could be made in the U.S. — albeit for a price. Maybe I should do this!

I have stood in front of this painting, with its compelling ‘wavy frame’, for three years now — in awe.

I know, even without asking, that it is way beyond my league.

This year one of the ladies just happened to tell me, without me even asking, that it was done by her cousin, ‘Steve Barton’,
in California and that he invented the ‘Wavy Frame’. She told me to look him up on the Web. I did.
I knew he wasn’t painting a scene in New Hampshire because I have never seen oranges like that
up here — not even at a supermarket.

We have been going faithfully the last two years. So this was our 3rd visit.

I was sure I had done a post last year, but I will be damned if I can find it. Maybe I deleted it by mistake. Happens.

Very quaint. Beautiful location. Nice people. Visual treat. Prices good. Free cookies and cakes. Takes credit cards.

What more can you ask.

It is on North Barnstead Road, next to the white Church. Lot of signage. You won’t miss it.

SUFFICE to say … CLICK at will.

The picturesque, pastoral, very Barnstead setting …
