Why Google Doodle For Italian ‘Laura Bassi’ Was Published Today Is Not Immediately Obvious.

I like ‘Google Doodles‘. Always have. I find them educational & this one sure was. Though I have read a ton on the Italian Renaissance I had, alas, never come across this extraordinary lady before. So, it was good to read about her.

I am used to Google Doodle’s being published to commemorate someone’s birthday or death. So, when I first looked her up on Wikipedia (above) I could not work out why the Doodle was published today, April 17. I had to do some more reading.

Yes, I would have found it, quicker, IF I had first gone to the ‘Doodle Archive‘, but I didn’t.

I was wondering, were YOU curious?

Well, does not matter. Now you know. SMILE.

Google Doodles For The USA Gone Rather ‘Woke’ In The Last 18-Months — Have YOU Noticed?

by Anura Guruge

Two other very pointed ‘Doodles’ from last year.

I like ‘Google Doodles’. Always have.

I used to do regular posts on them, but gave up since there was little ‘ROI’ (‘return on investment’) for them; i.e., most of you were not as interested or intrigued as I was.

I still follow them & even visit the ‘Doodle Archive‘, quite often, to see what they do for other countries.

I have noticed two things since around this time a year ago.

  1. Marked SLOWDOWN off Doodles. Nothing like the frequency & regularity we used to see.
  2. They have become markedly & pointedly VERY “WOKE” — or at least that is how it comes across to I.

Have YOU noticed. Go & check. Notice the folks being honored. I am very happy, BUT …. Shouldn’t we strike a balance?

Well, I just wanted to ask YOU what you thought.

Sri Lanka February 4, 2021, 73rd Independence Day — Stories From The Past.

by Anura Guruge

Happy Sri Lanka (or Ceylon)
Independence Day 2021.

73-year anniversary.

It has sure been a chequered seven-decades.

Google yet again has recycled a previous
Google Doodle for this year.
Well, it is better than nothing.
At least this year they got the title right.
‘Independence day’, NOT ‘National Day‘.

Do NOT forget that it was I, 7-years ago, that contacted Google & requested a Google Doodle for Independence Day. SMILE.

My 2013 Google Doodle & the one in 2015.

Some of my prior posts well worth revisiting.

So clever. So pointed.

Google tries not to make too many political statements with its Doodles, but, when it does … Brilliant.

You CAN’T miss the timing.

Made my day.

Click to ENLARGE & read. Sent as an e-mail. It is probably on their Website to. Too busy to look. Sorry. SMILE.

Just as with Google & their Doodle, I am happy & proud to see this from (my) ‘Revels’.

They are a CLASS ACT & I would not have expected anything less from them.

This is so good. I am so happy.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Rejoice.

So GLAD & So PROUD That Google Did A Doodle “Juneteenth 2020”.

by Anura Guruge

Click on the image to get the whole story from Google (no less). Worth reading.

I was wondering & CONCERNED whether Google would do a Doodle to mark THIS IMPORTANT “Juneteenth“.

They had never done one previously & never even done one for “Emancipation Day”. Basically had to do with their guideline about NO Doodles marking political events.

Well, “Juneteenth” is above POLITICS, especially now.

I am so glad, so relieved, so proud.

I am a Google shareholder. SMILE. So, I expect good things from this company & I am a HUGE Google fan & supporter. I am ALL Google — Chrome, Android etc.

So, I am GLAD.

Thank YOU, Google. SMILE.

Marked Slowdown In U.S. Google Doodles Since The Pandemic — & Makes No Sense.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. From the Google Doodle Archive.

I like ‘Google Doodles‘. There was a time when I did posts about them. I no longer have the time.

But, I still watch out for them everyday. Even check the archives, now & then, for interesting International ones.

I noticed that there has been a MARKED drop-off in new Doodles over the last 2-months.

Makes no sense. Google’s designers most likely all work from home — virus or no virus. So, the ‘stay-at-home’ should not have had any impact.

But, something is up.

Just wanted to make sure that you were aware.

Now you know.

Google Doodle For April 28, 2020, Was About ‘Cricket’ & Repurposed From June 1, 2017 — ICC Champions Trophy.

by Anura Guruge

I knew it was cricket-related as soon as I saw it. The wickets were a dead giveaway. The rolling-pin as a bat was a bit off-putting.

Then there was the sock — or more to the point a sock with very distinctive coloring. You have to be a devoted fan, such as I, to spot that. Those are the West Indies colors.

Anyway, here is my post for the June 1, 2017 Google Doodle. Enjoy.

Having Genuine Google Doodle, For Dame Jean Macnamara, On ‘April 1’, Was Stupid!

by Anura Guruge

Yes, I know it was her birthday — after I looked her up. She is by no means a household name — and I suspect that that is even the case in her how country of Australia.

So, what was Google THINKING?

Yes, Google as we all know has a long and storied history of doing clever April 1st jokes.

Yes, we all know about the ongoing pandemic. Yes, I worked out that Google MIGHT refrain from joking around this year — given the gravity of the situation.

So, it would have been BEST not to do ANYTHING.

Do the Google Doodle for her the next day. That would have been better.

This was STUPID — Google.

Say it after I. “This was STUPID Google”.
