I can’t honestly say that the name rang a bell. Yes, I think I vaguely knew that there were some very famous and pivotal Persian mathematicians. So he is one of them.
That is birthday is credited as June 10, 940 is interesting. Not sure as to whose calendaring system that might have been to begin with and, if nothing else, it is a date pre the Gregorian Calendar in 1582. Suffice to say that it was a long time ago, at least 1,075 years ago.
I think (without checking) that this has to be the OLDEST birthday marked by Google with a Google Doodle.
That he is credited with inventing negative numbers is what I like the best. That is cool. Where would we be without negative numbers? I used to be rather fond of and reasonably good at Trigonometry. As such that he was a pioneer in that humbles me.
I am GLAD Google brought him to MY attention.
Damn SHAME that Google did NOT think that this Google Doodle warranted worldwide coverage. His contributions to humankind was NOT restricted to the middle east. Google should have given this GLOBAL reach.
