Nature Pays Homage To The GSA Recognizing Joe Biden As President Elect — November 23, 2020.

by Anura Guruge

There is NO doubt at all, at all, Nature was delighted that 16-days after it was apparent the GSA has finally recognized Joe Biden as President Elect. This is a great day. It was quite the sunset to cap it. Thank you, ALL.

Somebody Broke Into The New Hampshire ‘State House’ In Concord?

Ahhh?

This UPSETS me, greatly, at multiple levels.

I am VERY FOND of OUR wonderful, HISTORIC State House. As a ‘Granite State Ambassador‘ (GSA) I have volunteered at the State House — and if the truth be told, I did have a hand in getting GSA volunteering there.

It is one of the FRIENDLIEST, most open Government facilities I have ever visited (and yes, I have visited the Pentagon to do a presentation for an Army General).

I also know, starting with our AMAZING Governor, Maggie Hassan, quite a few people who work, visit and volunteer there. I know that my friends in the “Visitor Center” will feel this violation at a very personal level.

Ironic that just last month they were talking about increasing security at the State House. See below. Two years ago, as a GSA, I attended a 2-hour discussion on this very same issue — though we never even touched upon break ins at night.

That they did NOT have any infrared security detectors is inexcusable!

When I saw this on TV this morning my second thought, after thinking of how this will upset the folks who work there, was to think of all the irreplaceable, historic items we have at the State House. We even have some moon rock. That some objects were damaged upsets me, GREATLY.

This is NOT good. I am not happy.

I had not heard of this House (though I am sure I have been by it) which is now the museum of ‘Portsmouth Men, Women and Children‘ (where their stories live).

Starting this Summer the ‘Granite State Ambassadors‘ (GSAs), of whom I am a ‘Lifetime Member‘, are going to be helping out at this House/Museum. They are having two orientation sessions for the GSAs this coming week. I am going to go check it out. I like old houses like this — being mainly familiar with the historic properties on ‘Strawbery Banke‘ in Portsmouth. I am sure my Fuji X-E2s will go with me. So I will try to share some thoughts and pictures with you.

This is definitely a very worthwhile and moving ceremony to attend. In 2013 I was lucky enough to participate as a “Granite State Ambassador” (GSA) volunteering at the State House.

If you can you should definitely try and attend.

Per Governor Maggie Hassan’s edict flags in New Hampshire will be at Half-Staff on that day.

As is always the case in late August I start to notice hints of color emerging as I huff-and-puff up Prospect Mountain Road, in Alton, on my near daily run. On Monday, August 24, 2015, I went back up the hill, this time in our van, with my camera, to snap some pictures. Not much, but you can definitely see the leaves that have changed.

I knew that I had taken some pictures, on the very same hill, last year and had posted them here. I went looking for them. They were taken on August 25, 2014, I day later than this year. Cool. Well, it hasn’t really been cool enough to start the foliage process. BUT, I will keep you posted. I will most likely, for the 3rd year in a row, end up as an ‘official’ NH Fall Foliage Updater in my capacity as a Granite State Ambassador (GSA) [Lifetime Member].

I was made, totally unexpectedly, albeit to my humble delight, a “Lifetime Member” last July. I had been a GSA for 13 years by then.

On Wednesday, just before we left for “Tall Ships“, these two badges arrived in the mail. I was chuffed.

Pumpkin Festival (Ex-Keene) Coming To Laconia, New Hampshire In October 2015.

Just heard that the troubled Keene, N.H. pumpkin festival is moving to Laconia, New Hampshire this October. That is great news.

We are big fans of the Pumpkin Festival. We all volunteered in 2012 and I even made it to the HGTV TV show. We couldn’t make it last year because Devanee had a track meet — and as such, fortunately, missed the riots. Ditto the year before also.

I am delighted to have it in the Lakes Region. Laconia, with its long history of hosting ‘Bike Week’, is no stranger to holding big events. So that, at least, is good. But, I have some concerns — knowing both Keene and Laconia well. Laconia is no Keene! That could be an issue. Keene is handy to both MA and VT and I am sure that that played a role in the success of their festival. Laconia, dare I say it, also does not have the amenities. So it will be rather different. Yes, we will most likely get involved. I know a lot of people in Laconia plus I am a Granite State Ambassador (GSA).

Given my experience at Keene I would think that Weirs Beach Boulevard, the focal point of Bike Week, would be the best spot to anchor the festival. The long, broad sweep, by the Bay would be the ideal place to place all the pumpkins. But Weirs Beach is a few miles from downtown Laconia. This will be much bigger than Laconia’s ever successful ‘Multicultural Day‘ — which is held downtown. The location, to me, will dictate the overall success of this new venture.

I will try to make this blog ‘Laconia Pumpkin Festival’ central — for YOUR edification. OK? So stay tuned. This was but a heads up post. This should be exciting and fun. Can’t wait.

The New Hampshire State House is one of the gigs I am supposed to do, i.e., volunteer at to help out, in my capacity  ‘Granite State Ambassadors‘ (GSAs). I haven’t done anything close to the shifts they would like me to do BUT I do try to help out when they do have urgent needs. Yesterday and today was one of those. It was orientation for the newly elected representatives and senators. When the e-mail went out asking for additional volunteers I signed up.

So this morning I got up at 6:40 am (as opposed to 8:20 am) and made sure I was legally parked and outside the State House by 8:50 am (for my 9 am shift). It is always fun. It wasn’t as hectic as we had expected. That was good. It was fun. I got to meet a number of reps. — veterans and newly elected. All very nice. Very congenial. I got to hook up with Raymond Howard — as we had planned. That was cool. Ray, in a tie and jacket, looked real sharp.

I always enjoy my GSA stints. Yes, I really should do more. Just a question of time and priorities. The 40 minute drive to Concord is a ‘negative’. I am sure I would do more shifts if I was closer. Just the time. It just ‘kills me’. So much other things I want to do rather than driving. That in the end is the real impediment.

Anyway, this was fun. I really must go down and do another shift before Christmas. Maybe around Christmas. That might be fun.

The link to this video, with a note suggesting that I should share it with YOU, was sent to me by  to Janelle James — the lady who on Sunday got me to go looking for the music that appeared in the “Day of the Dead” Google Doodle. Her name intrigued me because Devanee’s middle name is ‘Janelle’ and that was the first Janelle, other than Devanee, that I had ‘met’. Turns out that she is quite a musician herself, the keyboardist for the heavy-metal, Bay-area ‘The Road Vikings’ for many years. This is Janelle on keyboards for them a few years ago.

With luck Janelle may contribute some more material to this blog. She has her hands full with a 2 year old but she is going to see what she can do.
