One Memorable ‘Haka’ — Farewell To The New Zealand ‘All Blacks’ Rugby Team By Airline Staff.

by Anura Guruge

So this is the ‘Air New Zealand‘ staff doing a spirited haka to wish farewell to the ‘All Blacks‘ heading for the Rugby World Cup 2019.

Not often that you get to see women doing the haka and to I it makes this even more special.

Would appear that the whole team (probably upwards of 22) were not there — up front. From what I can see just 4, in orange vests, came as representatives. Not sure what the logistics were. But, you can see that there is genuine passion and affection on all sides.

Just for the record, this was 2015, when the ‘Air New Zealand’ staff did a welcome haka for the victorious ‘All Blacks’ after the 2015 World Cup.

New Zealand Rugby Team ‘Haka’, At The 2019 Rugby World Cup, For The South Africans.

by Anura Guruge

The New Zealand, ‘All Blacks‘, rugby teams, over the years, are who made the ‘Haka‘ famous.

They, big, brawny and formidable are the ideal troop to do this.

This, at the 2019 Rugby World Cup, ongoing right now, is good. Can’t say it is classic, but it is good. This was the first ‘Haka’ of this World Cup. The New Zealand team will do a ‘Haka’ at the start of each game.

It is, actually, a TRIBUTE to their opponents! Not a challenge. It is honoring them before the battle commences. A very nice gesture. This ‘Haka’ was for the South Africans (in green).

Look at the size of one of the players who stands up and walks to the front. I used to play rugby and would have hated to come up against that guy. He is HUGE.

It started yesterday with this powerful, moving Haka by a Maori Motorbike ‘gang’.

Then today a number of schools, to their credit, did their renditions.

Then there was this!

This was brilliant. Very powerful and you can tell heartfelt.

They are not really a motorcycle ‘gang’.

From the little I know of them, Maoris tend to be decent and genuine people. I know that they felt the pain.

I am SO PROUD of them.

As a search of ‘haka’ on this blog will confirm, I am a huge lover and aficionado of the haka. As an ex-rugby player I have been familiar with the haka since way back 1960s.

I have to say though, this has, as of today, become my favorite haka. A classic.

Shame it took this unspeakable tragedy to bring out this lovely haka.

A Wedding Haka From New Zealand To Add To The Airport Haka.

by Anura Guruge

wedding haka

Click to access must watch YouTube video of wedding hakka posted Friday, January 22, 2016.

We at this household are addicted to hakas especially those done by New Zealanders. Our YouTube channel on the Roku 3 has ‘Haka’ high up in the search list. I saw this in the U.K. “Daily Mail” — which I read, on my Android tablet, first thing in the morning, with coffee, before getting out of bed. I knew I had to share it with YOU. I guess hakas are going to get commonplace in New Zealand if this goes on. The airport haka to welcome the Rugby World Cup winners was great. This wedding haka is as good. Enjoy.

That was quite the innings even after the often glorious batting we had seen by Australian David Warner and Usman Khawaja. The latter was a revelation to me in this Test series. Never heard of him before. He sure can bat, and do so attractively. Hope his hamstring pull will not keep him out. David Warner, I knew, and I was not surprised. The only thing that surprised me was that he did not try for a triple. Ditto Ross Taylor. It was a shame to see him get out at 290. Wow.

Ross Taylor is no stranger to me though I didn’t know anything really about him other than that he can bat and catch. I, given his distinctive facial features, had suspected that he had some Māori in him. Today, for the first time, I looked him up — on Wikipedia for expediency. I was wrong but that is not surprising because I am no expert when it comes to Polynesian ethnicity. His mother is Samoan. So that explains the features. His full name is Luteru Ross Poutoa Lote Taylor. Never knew that. That is quite the name.

Ross Taylor with his tongue out.

So as to his innings, which as some of the commentators did not tire of saying was indeed a Master Class of batting. I wish we had television when I was growing up and that I would have been able to see the likes of this innings. He would have helped me tremendously.

Did YOU notice how he put his tongue out — ‘Haka‘ style — when he got to 100 & 200. See picture. Was that a Samoan thing, like the Haka. Nobody commented on it though it was very obvious. I doubt it was just a ‘nervous’ thing though I have noticed that he does put his tongue out, not as much as this, more often than most.

That he the first Kiwi to score a double century against Australia amazed me. I just had assumed that this had had to have been done earlier. Pretty amazing. 2015 before first Kiwi double century against the Aussies.

That his 290 is the HIGHEST score in Australia by a visiting batsman also surprised the heck out of me. Wow. And Ross Taylor. Good for him.

I checked. His highest score by a stretch, his previous best having been 217. That is great. Just wish he had made 300. I was all ready. Then he holed out. But that is OK. I hope he gets to score a triple at some point.

I am taking a break from watching cricket and TRYING to watch as much of the Rugby 2015 World Cup as I can. While I was willing to pay to watch the Cricket World Cup 2015, my love for rugby is not as great. So I am content, in a kind of ‘sour grapes’ manner, just to watch the games available for free. So last night I started watching the Samoa v USA match on (NBC) Universal. Saw this Haka — which was called the above, Siva Tau. I love the Haka. Always have. This was good. I gather the New Zealand has a real great one for the World Cup. Haven’t seen it yet. I will share it with you when I do.
