I don’t think that they told us about this when we were trying to enroll.

If they did, it didn’t register with me, and as all my posts here will show, I wasn’t exactly naive,
clueless or stupid about the whole process.

I never really wanted Dental Insurance.

Waste of money for me. I have teeth like a horse.

So, I have now inquired, thrice, as to whether I can cancel.

Answer I have repeatedly got was NO.

Here is the kicker, Delta Dental REFUSES to answer that question.
They insist that I talk to ‘healthcare.gov’.

I spoke with them twice yesterday.

They didn’t know the answer right off the bat.
They had to go and check with a supervisor.

Then they told me that I HAVE to wait for the NEXT
Open Enrollment period
— starting November 15, 2014.

Amazing.

Wonder what will happen IF I refuse to pay the premium?

1.1 Million Enrolled Through Healthcare.gov DOES NOT Mean That 1.1 Million Folks Got Insurance! Geeze.

11millionwrong

1.1 Million people have logged on and created accounts.

That does NOT mean that 1.1 Million people SUCCEEDED in getting health insurance through the bloody system.

Just because you signed up and even COMPLETED the application does not mean you QUALIFY or have been ENROLLED.

Geez! These highly-paid idiots who write this garbage have never been through the process — they have company provided insurance.

Of the 1.1 Million probably 30% are duplicate applications. I made 9 applications before I succeeded.

Plus, you have to submit income verification etc. after they say that you have completed the ‘enrollment’.

The real number of folks that have got insurance through the system is probably 40% of that 1.1 million.

I think there are 8,000 who have managed to get insurance in N.H. through healthcare.gov.

Mark those words and that number.

How do I know? Just lets say that I have forgotten more about computer systems than most ever had a chance to learn.

1.1 million number is a misrepresentation.

Finally Enrolled (I Think) In N.H. ‘Anthem Silver’ And ‘Delta Dental’ Through Healthcare.gov … December 27.

I had just about given up and was going to pay the $200 fine for not having insurance in 2014. Deanna was, however, not happy with that since she knows that she is the one that will be left holding the can when I do have this heart attack that each and every doctor tells me that I am long overdue for.

As I documented, after 9 applications, 26 phone calls and over 14 hours (starting Sept. 16 with pre-registration) I finally managed to complete AN application on healtcare.gov on Thursday, December 19, 2013.

But, the system lies. When it says ‘complete’ it doesn’t mean complete. There are other steps you have to YET PERFORM. In my case, if found out more or less by accident, that I still have to upload proof of income [i.e., 2012 Tax Return] and valid immigration status [i.e., scan of valid Green Card]. I, of course, had both. I had already sent two copies of the scanned Green Card image, front and back, by mail to the processing center. But uploading wasn’t a problem once I found out that they wanted these two things uploaded. Did that December 20, 2013.

Then, my healthcare.gov account was basically LOCKED. I couldn’t do anything more.

There was no point trying to do anything over the weekend and I knew that Monday, December 23, the supposed deadline day, would be crazy.

So, I waited until 2pm on Tuesday, December 24 — Christmas Eve.

Made another call to the Call Center. My 27th. This time I got a lovely lady. She said that she would not get off the line till I was enrolled!

She checked my account. She said I was fully processed BUT that the system was not working and my information was NOT BEING sent to Anthem or Delta Dental. She apologized. I was on the phone with her for 50 minutes. In the end she pulled up two ENROLLMENT NUMBERS and said that these were my two numbers BUT she can’t tell, because the system was not working, which one was for Anthem and which one was for Delta Dental. She begged me to call Anthem and Delta Dental and make my first payment so that I would be covered as of January 1.

Then it was Christmas.

miracleI wasn’t going to call December 26 because I knew it would be crazy. But, that afternoon I got a letter from Delta Dental, sans an membership number, that said I was enrolled! That was promising.

Yesterday, Friday, I called Anthem. Was on hold for 40 minutes. Then another lovely lady answered the phone. Don’t know why, must be my age, she and the lady from the Call Center on Christmas Eve and even the lady from Delta Dental called me, right through the calls, ‘Dear’! I must sound old and doddery. At least I wasn’t crying.

She found me on the system. Miracles do happen. I paid by credit card. I have no membership id nor anything else. Just this e-mail confirmation.

Called up and paid Delta Dental too. I really don’t need dental insurance. But, screw it. It was easier to get bloody insurance than decline it.

So that is where I stand. In theory I am covered, without a gap, starting January 1, 2014. So, now it doesn’t matter if I keel over with that heart attack as they say I will.

So it took, in total, 4 more calls and about another 2.5 hours.

Bloody amazing.

Sandwich Fair, NH: Columbus Day (Oct. 14) 2013. It Was Fun.

P1060294

The happy, family-face of Sandwich Fair. This father just won this huge prize. Don’t know him, but I saw him winning while we were having lunch. Asked if I could take their picture. He was game. This is what Sandwich is all about. Kids smiling.

We always make it to Sandwich, rain or shine — and we have trudged through the mud. Not this year. It was good weather. Not as hot as it has been in some years but just right.

First time we have been on a Monday, Columbus Day. We usually, like most others, typically go on Saturday — but this year Teischan had Nutcracker practice. Given the choice between Sunday and Monday decided to go on Monday to see what it was like. Senior’s Day. So targeted at me. $4 to get in. Art Harriman, the eternal M.C., a senior himself, serenaded us.

Fairly decent crowds. Not packed. That was nice. But, when we got there shortly after 11:20 they claimed that both free car parks were full. They pull that stunt every year. Well, we are no strangers to Sandwich. So just drove up to the village green, and parked on the side of a church for free. No way we were going be paying for parking — on principal. Where we parked was actually closer to the fair. So!

Met a few people we know. The Alton Police Chief was there deputizing. Chatted with him a few times. Julie and Hayden, from Giuseppe’s (Meredith), were there. Always good to see Julie.

The two tribute bands ‘Bon Air‘ and ‘Mellow Yellow‘ were good, the latter (from Vermont) very, very good. Though they played a number of times we only got to hear them for about 20 minutes. That was a shame. I could have listened to them for much longer. Best tribute band we have heard this year, and we went to about 5 (maybe 6) tribute concerts this Summer.

For the first time in my life I went to a fair and did NOT have apple crisp! Yes, I must be ill — as I am continually told by my doctors. Actually I didn’t eat ANY fair food — though the prices were very fair and compelling. Thought about having a sausage, but decided against. I eat too many (low fat ones be it) as it is. Instead I ate a banana, two apples and some egg salad (without any bread, of course). FOR ME staying away from food at the fair is easy. It has to be the demographics of those that go to Sandwich Fair. I notice it every year: there are a lot of very big men at Sandwich and I won’t, diplomatic, as ever, mention the ladies. This is what kills me. If I get talking to any of them, it doesn’t matter that they are limping or using a walking aid trying to battle gravity, they assure me that they have no cholesterol, no high-blood pressure and certainly not diabetes. Drives me nuts. Good jeans. That is my problem. We didn’t have good jeans in Ceylon — actually we didn’t have any jeans. The men mostly wore sarongs. That is why doctors love to tell me that I am a heart attack waiting to happen.
