This all had to do with the ‘English Reformation‘ when Britain parted company with the Pope and as such the Roman Catholic Church.

This ‘Relief Act’ was a longtime coming.

Another major landmark in British Catholic history.

Waltham Abbey, in Essex, the LAST abbey to be dissolved.


The ‘Dissolution Of Monasteries‘ by Henry VIII, during 1536 to 1540, was an inglorious chapter in Britain’s checkered, but in the main ‘GREAT’, history.

As one who loves British cathedrals and abbeys the destruction wrought on them distresses me constantly. But, it is part of the history.

We will never know what would have happened to these monasteries and abbeys IF Henry VIII had not done what he did.
