Think – Today: Would Famous 20th Century Scientist, Like Einstein, Been More Productive If They Had Google?

alberteinYou have to admit it is one heck of thing to think about? Seeing a photo of people using the old card index system in a library got me thinking about this. Would make a great high school debate proposition. So what do YOU think?

Yesterday’s ‘Think’: “Celibacy vs. chastity” — Yes, most people think that these two words refer to the same thing, i.e., abstinence from sex. That is, however, not the case. Per the Catholic Church, an authority on such matters for millennia, the correct word for describing somebody who is not having sex is ‘continence’. Celibacy refers to the state of being unmarried (or unattached). Chasity, on the other hand, deals with sexual ‘purity’ — let’s call that ‘fidelity’. You can be married, have sex with your partner and be chaste. Hence the belt to keep you pure. Aren’t you glad you know know. {SMILE}

Think – Today: Is There A Difference Between Celibacy & Chastity?

by Anura Guruge

95935-92479You hear ‘celibacy’, these days, more often than ‘chasity’. And there certainly is no ‘celibacy belt’ as opposed to the chastity one. Do they two words have different meanings or are they synonyms?

Yesterday’s ‘Think’: “Light by which we see the planets” — We see the planets (in our solar system), comets (and for that matter asteroids and other minor planets, albeit not naked eye) thanks to the reflected light from our Sun. None of the planets, comets or for that matter any of the other bodies in our Solar System generate any light bright enough to be seen from Earth, naked eye. Any light that they produce would be due to volcanic activity (or equivalent), burning gases and lightning storms. None of that produces enough light to be seen by us. So, everything we see in the Solar System is due to reflected sunlight. That is worth reflecting on.

Think – Today: What Is The Light That Makes It Possible For Us To See The Planets & Comets?

by Anura Guruge

nov5conjunctionWe have all seen Venus, reddish Mars, Bright Jupiter and Saturn in the night sky. If you are lucky (and old enough) you may have seen a comet or two. What makes it possible for us to see, naked eye, these planets and comets?

Yesterday’s ‘Think’: “Natural food that doesn’t spoil” — Honey! Pots of honey were found in Egypt’s famous pyramids and though they were at least 3,000 years old the honey was not spoilt and was perfectly edible. Honey is considered to be a food that does not spoil. Honey, however, can contain spores that could be harmful. Most people, once they are 1-year or older, have developed sufficient enough ‘immunity’ in their digestive tract to nullify anything bad in these spores. Not so in babies. So that is the only caveat. The 1-year rule.
