Well, I said it 2-years AGO too. Click to access that post.

The notion of dear ol’ Beefy becoming a Lord is GRAND. He deserves it. Ian, everything said & done, is a GOOD MAN. I think he has a heart of gold & we all know he has done a tremendous amount for charity.

Of course I like Beefy. What is there, really, not to like. He is the epitome of a man’s man, a cricketer’s cricketer.

I just can’t fathom why he doesn’t take better care of himself.

Yes, he was always bordering on husky. And we all know he likes his food & DRINK. But, this is crazy.

He is such a role model.

Please, Beefy. Lose some weight. SMILE.

‘Botham Shem Jean’, Accidently Shot By Female Dallas Police Officer Must Have Been Named After Sir Ian Botham.

by Anura Guruge

I had NOT initially paid much attention to his name because it wasn’t as if I was going to know him.

Then while reading a news story it suddenly struck me. ‘Botham‘ as a First (i.e., given) name. I had never seen that before.

Of course we cricketers all know Botham — Ian, BUT ‘Botham’ as a last name.

But, it all makes sense. He is from St. Lucia and cricket is very popular in St. Lucia. Possibly even the unofficial National Sport.

Botham Shem Jean, 29, was born in 1989. That was at the height of Ian Botham’s cricket exploits around the world.

I am sure that one or both his parents are cricket mad (like I) and named their son after ‘Ian Botham’. I would know. My son’s middle name, Gordon, is after West Indian cricket legend, Gordon Greenidge.

It Grieves Me So To See Ian Botham Shamelessly Sporting A HUGE Gut. Oh, Ian!

by Anura Guruge

From this August 6, 2018 YouTube video — BELOW. Most recent example I could find. I have seen him, the last two days, on the England vs. India 2nd Test coverage from Lord’s. That is when I noticed it.

Click image to access MY POST from August 14, 2016.

I have, of course, been watching the engrossing England v India 2018 series with increasing fascination. The Tests have been so amazingly gripping that I have been trying to watch as much ball-by-ball coverage and pre-/post-match commentary as possible in addition to my usual consumption of the 1-hour ‘highlights’. That is how I had come to see full, body shots of Ian. It is NOT a pretty sight. I only saw the above video (from August 6, 2018), which quite clearly shows his overspilling belly, when I went looking for a picture to illustrate my point.

Ian and I are British contemporaries, in reality he 3-years my junior. I saw a LOT of him, some in the flesh (in Somerset (with Viv), in Hampshire and at Lord’s), and tons on TV. I like Ian. What is there NOT to like. He is the cricketer’s cricketer.

That is why I am distressed.

Why Ian? Why?

He knows better. He has a daughter with Type 1 diabetes. We also now know that he suffers from impotence! That sounds like an oxymoron. How can OUR Ian Botham be impotent?

This is NOT right.

Yes, he is not the only famous ex-cricketer lugging around a hefty gut.

But, Ian.

Yes, he was ‘BEEFY’ all his adult life. But, never like this.

Yes, I need desperately to lose 20 – 30 pounds. But, luckily (and it just pure luck) my gut is not as big as his — as yet. So, I too suffer.

Please, Ian …

Ian Botham (‘The Legend’) Gives A HUGE Plug For ‘Linear Shockwave Therapy’ As A Viagra Alternative For ED.

Seeing this in the U.K. “Daily Mail” this morning (during my customary read of the paper while drinking my first cup of coffee) invoked multiple emotions.

I felt DREADFUL for ‘poor’ Ian (though ‘poor’ is somehow not a word that can really be associated with this very human legend). I like Ian. Always have. Saw quite a bit of him, in England, 1974 – 1989, especially since I used to go and watch Somerset play (albeit mainly to see Viv Richards). Ian, cut to the chase, like Princess Diana, is a good person. That he can tear up when a young South African scores his maiden century — against England to boot — shows his humanity. So this is rather sad.

That said, in Ian’s case, I am sure it is not working because he has WORN IT OUT. The “Daily Mail” talks about his infamous affair that came to light in 2001. And implies that that was IT! OK. Yep. SMILE. I also think that Ian, before he bothers with anymore of this ‘stuff’ should get himself a young crumpet — something that he will have no problem, whatsoever. That might do miracles for THE MAN — and he is indeed up there, worthy of that appalation.

‘Poor’ Ian.

I had NEVER heard of this ‘Linear Shockwave Therapy‘ — not that I have, as yet, had to go looking. ‘Vigore‘, ‘Renova‘ etc. in front that terms appears to refer to the MAKER of the electronics as opposed to the actual name of the therapy.

And from what I can see this, like Viagra, is JUST a blood flow increasing mechanism. That will help you get an erection — but that is it. And there is a huge difference. Just getting an erection (though always a great start) doesn’t guarantee that you will have an orgasm and hence be sated.

I have talked about THIS, at length, as item #61 in “Orgasms: 101 Facts & Trivia”.

A Hundred & 5 Wickets In An Innings — Twice In 9 Days & Roston Chase In His 2nd Test Match.

RostonChase

At least a couple of things of note here.

1/ Two instances in consecutive Test matches in a series … 9 days apart.

2/ It was BUT Roston Chase’s 2nd Test match. That was SPECIAL.

Ashwin has done it twice BUT it appears that that is not that special! Dear Botham did it 5 times — twice in 1978. Very select list. Sobers, Mushtaq, Tony Greig, Imran, Wasim, Kallis …

I watched ALL of the Roston Chase century. It was special. I was impressed.

Well done Roston. That Vivian Richards was on his feet applauding him was wonderful to see. What a GREAT game

The Unique Beauty Of Cricket: Ramdin Voids Catch, Chris Gayle Celebrates With Afghanistan Victors.

Click image for YouTube video of West Indies Chris Gayle dancing with the Afghan players after they defeated the West Indies. Classic …

I really do not think you see this level of sportsmanship in any other sport. No wonder we have the adage “it is just not cricket” to describe ‘bad behavior’ (of the Donald Trump kind).

Earlier this year, as I documented, we had British National Hero Ian Botham wiping a tear from his eye when (black) South African youngster Temba Bavuma score his maiden century in Tests — against England. Where else would you see that. A national hero shedding a tear when somebody in the other team scores a century against their country. That was brilliant.

Then Denesh Ramdin indicating that it was NOT a fair catch AFTER the umpire gave it as OUT. There are NO REVIEWS in T20. It would have been a done deal. Even if they saw it on replays after nothing would have been said or done. It was all legit. But Ramdin voided the catch. Yes, we have seen West Indies players not say anything in other ‘questionable catch’ situations — but this was nice. Yes, I know that the outcome of this match did not matter. The West Indies had already qualified for the Semi Finals. But it was grand. Made my day.

And then to have Chris Gayle helping the victorious Afghan players celebrate. Meant a LOT to them and you could tell that. Here was a cricket superstar, from the opposition, sharing their joy. Yes, Chris Gayle did NOT play in the match — and as I just said the outcome of this match did not matter. But it was another lovely gesture. And even greater … The commentators (echoing the views of the fans) applauded. Nobody misinterpreted it as Chris Gayle not being loyal to his team. We all knew that this WAS CRICKET.

Sorry But Also Glad That Hashim Amla Handed Over South African Captaincy To A.B. De Villiers.

Click to ENLARGE and read here. From Wikipedia at: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hashim_Amla. I had NO idea that he was Indian and a Muslim. I had assumed he was a Afrikaner!

I have watched all three South Africa v. England 2015 – 2016 Test Matches with great interest — and like Ian Botham was moved to tears when Temba Bavuma scored his maiden Test century. During the 2rd Test I heard AB being mentioned a few times as the Captain. I thought that the commentators, not always sober, had just got it wrong. I try not to read cricket news BECAUSE I do not want to know the scores and results before I get a chance to watch the matches on Willow Cricket via Sling.

I have always liked Hashim Amla. Great cricket, wonderful personality, a good man. I had no idea he was a muslim and had issues as a result. During the Indian series I thought there was something wrong with him. Appears it was the burden of captaincy. I also had NO idea that AB had never been SA Test captain prior to this. I thought Amla took over from him.

Appears that everybody is happy. That is good. I am still in shock at the way SA collapsed during the 2nd innings of the 3rd Test. Do not expect that from SA.

Why Cricket Is Such A Beautiful Game: British Legend Botham Tears Up When South African Bavuma Scores Maiden Century.

by Anura Guruge

I caught it, i.e., Beefy Botham, all dressed up, wiping tears from his eyes, when 25-year old, ‘little’ (he is 5′ 6″, if that) Temba Bavuma, in his 7th Test Match, scored his maiden Test century. It was quite the innings — even after the superlative Master Class 201 by (vastly recovered) South African captain Hashim Amla and three impressive knocks by AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis & Chris Morris (in his 1st Test). It brought tears to my eyes, though I wasn’t that familiar with Bavuma until this gusty, match-saving innings.

But to see Ian, the Godfather of British cricket, tearing up when a South African steals the Test away from England is what makes cricket SO SPECIAL, SO UNIQUE and SO BEAUTIFUL.

Thank YOU, Ian. I have always liked YOU, through thick and thin. This spontaneous gesture elevates your glorious status, as a GIANT among men, even further.

This was SPECIAL.

Until I just read it I did NOT realize that Bavuma’s hundred was the 1st Test Century by a Black South African. That is special. Nelson would have been so proud. Wonder what Barry Richard’s thought.
