James Michener’s “Miracle In Seville” — A Marian Miracle, A Treatise On Bullfighting & Probably Autobiographical.

An intriguing book. Unlike anything else I have read from the great and incomparable James A. Michener. For a start it is absurdly short for a Michener book. My version, with lots of full-page illustrations, and somewhat large print, only runs to 122-pages. But, one heck of a yarn — though those that are extremely averse to Marian worship and/or bullfighting probably will not get very far with it.

I pick up any and all Michener books I see being given away — the incredible, free ‘Swap Shop‘ at our local dump (a.k.a. recycling center) a favorite and lucrative source. If it is a duplicate, and most of them are, as I now have nearly all of his important works, I give them away. I must have picked this up at the ‘Swap Shop’. It has been in my ‘Michener Corner’ for a fairly long time. (See Below) Earlier this week I wanted a quick read while awaiting a paperback copy of Michener’s “The Covenant“. I have multiple copies of it in hardback, but those are too heavy and unwieldy to read, especially in bed.

I have never attended a bullfight and don’t know much about it other than the obvious basic. This book was encyclopedic in it treatment of that subject — which is the backdrop for the story.

It is about an improbable Marian miracle, As such it does get tedious in parts …

I think it is autobiographical. I know he spent much time in Spain researching for his blockbuster “Iberia“. The level of detail re. bullfighting is quite amazing — and with all the Spanish lingo.

The illustrations, by John Fulton, an American bullfighter, who was living in Spain, are quite impressive — though a tad short on great.

If you get a chance you should have a look at this book.

This was a book I had to write and one I enjoyed writing. I hadn’t done any of my trademark illustrations in a few years. It was fun. I haven’t had the time to do both writing and ‘drawing’ up until this book. [After saying that I did this book in 2 days and the illustrations took 90% of the time. Don’t tell anybody that. That is our secret.]

Comet ISON will be quite an event for kids — exciting, enchanting but at the same time a bit scary and off putting. This book will dispel the trepidation and help enhance the fascination of experiencing this amazing celestial show.

Though meant for kids quite a few parents may want to read it first! It is a soup-to-nuts explanation of Comet ISON, with illustrations, in 24 pages. Now YOU too can answer the questions that the kids will have like an expert.

I am already working on the full-color, 28 page print version. I want it to be affordable. So I am going to sell it basically at cost! So, I think, it will be under U.S. $8.00. [Full color books are expensive to print.] Growing up the one thing I had was books. I had a lot of books. I had more books than anybody else that I knew. I want other kids to have that privilege. So this is my part. The Kindle eBook, which can be read on practically anything, whether it be a PC, Android phone, iPad, Kindle device or Mac, is as ever 99 cents.

The eBook is available now. I published it yesterday.

Yes, my 20th book as sole author. See the new sidebar graphic. My 9th this year! I still have more to do.

Enjoy.

Comet ISON will start becoming visible, naked eye, towards the end of October. Get this book well ahead of that.

Yes, I know the quality of these two pictures are not great.
With luck Leanne should have a good high-quality scanned image of this picture.
She did this for her latest grandson.
That was why we went to Maine yesterday and I got to take the kids to the Rockland lighthouse.

After sharing the same publicity material to start with for the common ‘Royal Mail Ship (R.M.S.) Carpathia‘ 1912 Irish Christmas Revels they are doing this year, the Cambridge, MA ‘Revels’ (the mother ship) has come up with some very spiffy images for their marketing/ticketing brochure that I received in the post this week. Very impressive. Very compelling. Bravo.

After studying it intently for a few minutes, I eventually found, in the smallest type possible, at the very bottom: ‘illustration PJ Lynch‘. That is it. I then found this P.J. Lynch — drawings, paintings and illustrations. Could be him. Very nice.
