Alton (N.H.) Property Tax Rate Up By 8.8%!

by Anura Guruge

I got the Town of Alton (New Hampshire) property tax bill for December 2018 and it seemed high. Much more than I was expecting. So, I checked it against the prior bills.

WOW!

A 8.8% increase with no change to the assessed property values. No wonder the bill seemed high. It is HIGH. The school again. Funny thing is I can’t recall reading or hearing about a major increase to the tax rate.

I realize that most people don’t see the increase per se. Their property tax payment is included with their mortgage payment. But, they will see it at some point and it will be a shock.

Well, I have given you a heads up.

We have had higher tax rates, BUT valuations were lower. It is the COMBINATION of the two that adds up and counts.

Bernie Sanders Underwear, Like Bernie’s Message, Has NOT Been Well Thought Out.

by Anura Guruge

Bernie2ProductFemale

First and foremost we are, very THANKFULLY, NOT talking about any underwear that 74-year old Bernie himself might be wearing. That is very unlikely to be a pretty picture, even if you are a 78-year old female.

I also want to make it clear that I LIKE, and always have for the last 10 years, Bernie Sanders as a man and a Senator. He is a very good Senator. I just do NOT like him wasting all this time, effort and MONEY on a pointless nomination run when we, THE DEMOCRATS, should be 100% focused on making sure the White House stays Blue.

So to this underwear.

IF you are going to put Bernie’s face on female panties should it NOT be at the front — especially if you are making a point about ‘feel’? SMILE. Not that anybody would ever mistake Bernie for a sex object but should his face really be at the back?

And OK, if YOU insist on putting it on the derrière THEN at least the alignment of the mouth right — so that we can at least reconcile some of the hard to fathom stuff, such as ‘increase taxes’, coming from Bernie’s mouth. Get it? Not difficult.

Given that I do circulate in Democratic circles I often encounter folks that tell me how great Obamacare is.

One amusing problem. None of those that tell me how great Obamacare is get their health insurance from Obamacare!

Walk in my shoes. I do get my insurance from Obamacare. Let me tell you that it is NOT affordable. Obamacare is a FRAUD.

I, in 2015, paid an additional $1,450 in TAXES because they said that my Obamacare premiums had been too low. So my 2014 Obamacare premiums, in reality, were 88% higher than what bloody, duplitiious healthcare.gov quoted me.

I have had with Obamacare.

ENHlogoI had an unsolicited e-mail from Resident Power yesterday offering me ‘unbeatable’ rates. It actually made me quite angry. ‘They’ some how don’t seem to get it that they reneged on what was a 1-year contract. I don’t care about their ‘sob story’. We had a one year contract and one fine night, without any disclosure from them, I learn on the Web that they have ditched me.

Yes, I am mad. I am an avid promoter of alternate power for NH. PSNH needs competition. I was so happy when I first heard about ‘Resident Power’. But, they screwed me and gave a black eye to the whole NH alternate power initiative. It is the latter that really irks me.

I would NOT sign up with Resident Power even if they offered me FREE electricity.

I don’t give a hoot about their ‘unbeatable’ rate, because for all I know that rate could be history even before you switch over. They should do the decent thing and gracefully go away, and not sully the alternate power landscape with their tarnished presence. Yes, I am livid. I ended up paying FULL PSNH rates for 2 whole months.

Finally I am with ENH.

ENHrate

I am hoping that ENH does not screw me.

But since the Resident Power fiasco I have lost all trust and confidence in the entire alternate power industry.

I have yet to receive the insulting $9.50 check that Resident Power intends to offer those that they reneged upon. As I have said, I am going to send it back.

Typical NH — as the above article tries to point out. The ‘fat cats‘ always get away with it — imprudent business practices be damned.

Heads up. ‘Resident Power’ is trying to send us all a check for $9.50 as compensation, BUT if you cash that check you waiveany claims against PNE relating to the customer’s placement on default service”.

So, do NOT cash that check.

Send it back to them. Ideally write a friendly greeting on it and make sure you add some appropriate ‘perfume’ that reflects your amiability towards their noble gesture. $9.50. So generous. I guess I can see a class action suit brewing — which is funny because I said as much ‘day one’. They broke their contract with us.

Now they are back trying to rustle up more suckers. Well I would rather pay PSNH $1 more per KwH than deal with these reprobates again. They gave the whole industry a black eye through their imprudent business practices. This was so uncalled for.

As for the PUC … What can you say. Look at all the folks that got screwed by Scott Farah of Financial Resources Mortgage (FRM). Well at least he is now in jail.

I kind of knew some of this. The ‘What Happened to PNE‘ section, however, is very revealing and in my opinion quite telling.

It would appear that PNE was trying to fly by the seat of their pants and they had holes in their pants and no underwear.

It mentions Bart Fromuth’s dad ‘Gus‘ and says that he was involved in bringing deregulation to New England in the 90s. I don’t know him but I assume he must live in Florida and has never set foot in NH in the winter. Because if he had he would have to have known that January is colder than December and that February is the cruelest month of old. I am not happy.

Well you should read the article and make up your own mind. I wonder whether our great State will bother to look into what happened?

So I finally got around to looking at my bill yesterday.

I am not amused.

Resident Power/PNE dropped us on February 18, 2013 — though we didn’t get notified about this till Feb. 20.

The 5 days in just that billing cycle that I got power from PSNH cost me a bundle.

Worse still, though I successfully switched to ENH that very same day, i.e. February 20, ENH will only become my supplier as of tomorrow.

I am not happy. I had a CONTRACT with ‘Resident Power’. They are in violation of that contract. Shame on them.

You can see how this all worked out on my bill.

Well from where I sit, as an ex-Resident Power customer, there are no ‘ifs and buts’. I got screwed by Resident Power.

If they had any honor they will pay for the additional PSNH charges I incurred — because I had a contract with them to supply power to me and they reneged on that. Shame on them.

Yes, I am now with ENH at 0.07284/kWh which is cheaper than what Resident Power was charging me. But, I think it is only a 6 month rate.

I hope ENH proves to be more reliable and credible than Resident Power.

Full Disclosure: Since this whole fiasco I had talked with, and even met, with Resident Power founder and Managing Director, Bartholomew Fromuth. Very nice guy. Very likeable. But, that doesn’t excuse the fact that his company let me down.

Yes, I am not happy.

I am devastated. I can’t believe that their Managing Director Bart Fromuth was on here just 32 days ago singing the praises of Resident Power when he must have known that they had issues, with PNE, my supplier.

At least we now know the numbers. Resident Power or PNE  only had 8,500 customers!

Yes, I had a letter saying we are being switched. Too late.

I can’t believe I got sucked in. This is diabolical. I had said all along that: ‘if it was a scam, I wasn’t sure what the angle was‘. I am now mad. Not sure what PSNH will charge us. I know this will end up costing me money. I am sure PSNH will charge me higher rates for some of this. Plus the hassle. Last thing I needed right now.

We just signed up with ENH Power. You have to do it quick, before your next meter reading.

I hate when I get mugged. I was not expecting this. I should have been wary. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is not true.
