China Is Becoming Quite Blatant That It Has BIG Plans For Sri Lanka!

A Sri Lankan friend, living in Canada, send me this YouTube.

For those of you who may not be familiar, ‘Sinhala‘, the language of the majority Sinhalese, is the predominant language of Sri Lanka.

China already through various deals & LEASES owns a fair chunk of coastal Sri Lanka — including one strategic port.

Various administrations, over the last two decades, have out of desperation or for personal gain, given China more & more access & sway over the country. China is happy to lend Sri Lanka lost of money (with backhanders in tow) as long as the loans are backed up by access to land & water.

It is no secret that China doesn’t have enough fertile land to support it population. They are buying & leasing land all over the world.

Sri Lanka has the advantage of being rather close & with great ports.

Some discerning Sri Lankans are understandably concerned. Sri Lanka has only been independent since 1948. Will it still be truly independent in 2048?

The Incomparable BBC Expands On My Theme Of Sri Lanka’s Political Soap Opera.

As the BBC also points out, what is happening in Sri Lanka is beyond the pale. It is even beyond what even Donald Trump could conjure.

Just puerile. Plain puerile. I am so, so glad that I am no longer a Sri Lankan citizen! I would be so ashamed. This is a country with a proud heritage.

This is unbecoming.

‘Temple Trees’, the Prime Minister’s official residence — I know it well. I have been there a number of times, with my adoptive father, when I was a child. I even had lunch there once.

I will keep you posted.

This is so stupid, pointless and childish. This has been now going on for 40-years and we have only been Independent for 70.

But, here is the IRONY.

Sri Lanka is still a third-world country and you expect histrionics from the likes of it. But, compared to Donald Trump, and the totally mockery he is making of the U.S. Presidency, this does not look that bad. If anything it is still MORE civil and constrained compared to the carryings on of Trump.

So, I no longer can tell my dear compatriots — and in many cases contemporaries — to grow-up and act us adults.

I live in a country run by a buffoon with a mental age of a 9-year old!

Bold, Attention-Grabbing Google Doodle For India Republic Day — January 26, 2018.

India Republic Day, January 26, should NOT be confused with Indian Independence Day — August 15.

Two separate things. India got its Independence from Britain on August 15, 1947.

Republic Day, 2 years and 5 months later, was when it became a secular, democratic State with a new Constitution. OK?

China, As We Know It Now, Came To Be This Day, 68-Years Ago — October 1, 1949.

Pretty amazing story. Obviously an ancient country, with long, distinguished and much storied history. “Communist China”, as many of us know it (at least in our hearts), as you can see is not that old. Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) got its Independence a year earlier.

What they have achieved, especially in the last 20-years, is sobering to contemplate.

Kind of neat that Modern China and Disney World share a birthday.

‘Trinidad and Tobago’ Gained Independence This Day 55-Years Ago; August 31, 1962.

by Anura Guruge

From what I can see Google has never done a Google Doodle for this Independence Day.

‘Trinidad and Tobago’ is special to any cricket lover — hence my interest.

The list of GREATS from Trinidad and Tobago is long and storied and begins with Learie Constantine — who, alas, was way before my time. Then there is Brian Lara.

Then there is Deryck Murray, Ian Bishop, the Bravo brothers, Ravi Rampaul etc. etc.

My favorite, however, is Larry Gomes from the 1970s.

Since When Was There ‘Occupied Territory’ In Sri Lanka — As Claimed By “National Geographic”.

by Anura Guruge

occupied

Click to ENLARGE and read here. “Occupied territory” highlighted. How to access original access shown below.

cv-1116_006-275x400This statement about “occupied territory” appears in the very biased and unflattering article about Sri Lanka in the November 2016 issue of “National Geographic” (which focuses on travel to Mars). It is on page 108 of the printed magazine. See below to access it online.

I am confused.

Since when did Sri Lanka have “occupied territory”?

Does France have “occupied territory”?

Does Italy have “occupied territory”?

So why does Sri Lanka have “occupied territory”?

It was one UNIFIED country when it gained Independence on February 4, 1948.

That land mass, as of February 4, 1948, has not changed.

So where is this “occupied territory”?

I found a copy, from “National Geographic” themselves, online!

What made this even MORE special was that Ceylon had just got its independence from Britain

Sri Lanka Independence — Let Us ALSO Celebrate Our Freedom From Circumcision.

by Anura Guruge

Sri Lanka, at below 9%, has one of the lowest circumcision rates in the World.

circumcisison slstats

This is a GOOD thing.

This is kind of very personal to I since I was born with a fused (stuck together) foreskin. My ‘pee’ wouldn’t come out.

In any other country they would have just circumcised me. Not so in Ceylon in 1953. They used coconut oil! Yes, coconut oil …

Boy, am I grateful.

Check this out from today’s U.K. “Daily Mail“.

Sometime last month Gambia, a tinpot nation in West Africa left the Commonwealth of Nations, i.e., MY Commonwealth, i.e, THE BRITISH Commonwealth. I heard about and it didn’t bother me a jot. Who has even heard of Gambia? Gambia doesn’t count. My honest reaction was, and true to form it was a good ol’ Commonwealth expression, ‘GROBR‘ — Good Riddance of Bad Rubbish. (Does it sometimes show that I used to be a rabid conservative WAY to the RIGHT of Margaret Thatcher?)

Well, now, supposedly inspired and emboldened by Gambia’s irrelevant (not to say irreverent) move the always MISGUIDED anti-British faction in Sri Lanka are jabbering about Sri Lanka leaving THE Commonwealth.

Sri Lanka Better Not.

As far as I am concerned it is the British what made us what we are today: for the better or the worse. Yes, I was born 5 years after Independence. But, I always knew on which side my bread was buttered (with butter from the Commonwealth).

If nothing else they gave us a superb, democratic parliamentary system. That is why we had the world’s FIRST FEMALE PRIME MINISTER. Without the British Sri Lankan women would still be confined to the kitchen. They also gave us a great education system, though I am not a great example, I am still thankful that my initial education was in Ceylon in what was a very British system. And we still have a wonderful railway system.

Elizabeth_II_greets_NASA_GSFC_employees,_May_8,_2007_edit

Our Queen. The Queen of THE Commonwealth, a proper queen at that.

Without the British we would never have had CRICKET. If Sri Lanka leaves the Commonwealth I will lobby the ICC, daily, to expel Sri Lanka from the ICC. I think most Sri Lankan males like cricket even more than they like sex — and obviously they must like their sex given our through-the-bloody-roof population growth.

I get daily e-mail articles from the Sri Lanka’s equivalent of Ann Coulter, though I am sure that she is not blonde and probably nowhere near as semi-attractive as the vampish Coulter — which alone is saying something. This woman is something else. I send ranting e-mails back to her but she won’t take my bait. I am sure I know what her root problem is. She sure doesn’t subscribe to my ‘an “O”-a-day keeps the doctor away’. She wants Sri Lanka to leave the Commonwealth. I had another e-mail from her to that effect this morning. I nearly choked on my coffee.

So, I hope I made my feelings clear. IF Sri Lanka leaves the Commonwealth I will no longer be from Sri Lanka. I am not sure whether I am physically capable of ever saying I am Indian. That might kill me. So, I might have to say that I am Bangladeshi. That would be easier. That I now have final confirmation, of something I have kind of always knew, makes all of this that much easier. I am adopted. So, I am not a Sri Lanka citizen and I am adopted to boot. So, what the heck.

OH! Sri Lanka is hosting the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) next month. First time SL is doing so. So, this is the reason, in addition to stupid Gambia, that all this anti-Commonwealth garbage is being uttered by ignorant folks. Yes, it is true that SL in turn is getting abuse from the so-called Commonwealth White-Nations for its supposed human rights violations. Please give me a break. There was a civil war for 30 years.
