“Rowen”, Our Newfies, First Easter.

by Anura Guruge

Water does not scare her, BUT she is still curious.

Will NOT drink from streams or lakes! Will sniff it … will pee in it, BUT will not drink. Only drinks from bowls or from a hose. That will sure change.

125-days old. That is 4-months & 5-days. Getting big. We have had her just over 9-weeks. She has changed our lives! Great dog. Lot of fun.

Forget what folks tell you about Newfies. She has become a GREAT walking dog. She, furthermore, enjoys her walks now that she has got it figured. Walks 4-miles with me every morning. She is FINE. She is getting STRONG.

So, why don’t I post more pictures of her. It is very difficult for I to get pictures of her! She is always so close to me. If I stop she is all over me. Standing up. Same at home. So, I have to rely on others.

Newfie “Rowen’s” Very First Encounter With An Unfrozen Stream — Cute.

by Anura Guruge

It was cute. Temperatures here have only gone above freezing (& even then just during sunlight hours) in the last couple of days. So, everything has been frozen solids — & the lakes are still frozen. This stream, across a little-used hiking trail that I often frequent, just broke free from the grips of what was a hard & harsh winter. You can still see the ice in protected ‘coves’. Well, it was all knew to Rowen, who was born in Iowa, on November 30, 2020. He is indeed a snow puppy.

She walked into the water without any fuss. She is familiar with water. She has had enough baths & loves playing in her water bowl. BUT she would NOT drink the water — though she, as is common with that breed, is always thirsty. She didn’t even sniff it. But, I am sure she will work it out in no time. Braxton, as is his wont, was lapping away. She paid no heed.

Two More Of ‘Rowen’, Our Newfoundland Puppy From Iowa, Just In Case You Were Getting Withdrawals.

by Anura Guruge

She is a handful, BUT cute & loving beyond words. Absolute joy though she drives all of us to distraction & beyond. Still ‘little’. Soon she will be BIGGER, much bigger. We are trying not to think what she will then get up to. Hopefully she will also start to mellow & not be as mischievous & curious. At the same time, as with kids, I hate to have them grow up. So much fun when they are young & the world is all new. Enjoy.

‘Rowen’, Our Newfoundland Puppy From Iowa, 89-Days Old — We Have Had Her For Exactly A Month.

by Anura Guruge

We picked her up, in West Point, Iowa, exactly a month ago. We drove 2,700-miles just to get her.

She is 89-days old, today. 1-day she of being 3-months.

She is a handful, BUT what a joy. A lot of fun. Plays with everything & anything. LOVES snow shovels. She attacks them while we try to shovel. Good job that we love her. We stand there till she is done. Takes 3-times as long to shovel. But, for obvious reasons, does not like my monster snow blower.

Puppylove — ‘Rowen’, The New Guruge Puppy, A 9-Week Old Newfoundland From Iowa.

by Anura Guruge

Yes, I & my 14-year old daughter drove 2,600-miles to pick up this puppy from ‘West Point’, Iowa. 3-days there & 3-days back.

The two bottom pictures are from Wednesday, January 27, 2021 — the day we picked her up from the breeder.

The top picture is the next morning. I had got up at 2am, got dressed & taken her out in the cold & snow. Done so again at 6:30am. The top picture was when I got back. SMILE.

The New Guruge Puppy, A ‘Newfoundland’ — Currently 7-Weeks (But Getting Her At 9)).

by Anura Guruge

The parents; father (brown), mother (black).

The Extended Family

I had thought that it would be at least February 2021 before we got a new dog to replace the much beloved ‘Maya’.

Well, the 14-year old had other ideas.

I paid a HEFTY deposit for this puppy today. SMILE.

It is a Newfoundland.

Never had one before. I like big dogs. Big dogs don’t bother me. I need a BIG dog to go on my long, rambling walks.

This dog is in Iowa, 1,250-miles away!

No, we are NOT having it shipped. We are going to go pick her up & drive her back … slowly.

She won’t be ready for another 2-weeks. 9-weeks.

Yes, you should be seeing a lot of her. SMILE.

We do NOT have a name for it — yet. SMILE.

James & Lizette Eckert, Alton (NH) Shooting Victims: Vital Data Culled From Excellent ‘Boston Globe’ Article.

by Anura Guruge

Data culled from this “Boston Globe” article.

Long article. So, I am summarizing some of the key data so you can get a snapshot.

But, please read the original if you have the time. It is very good & informative.

♦ Met at ‘Palmer College of Chiropractic‘ in Iowa.

♦ Got married in 1997. [He would have been 26, she 28. No details of prior relationships, children or where they came from.]

♦ Established ‘Innate chiropractic’ in South Portland in 1998. [There is also, coincidentally or otherwise, an ‘Innate Chiropractic’ in Iowa.]

♦ Owned a ‘big house’ on a lake in Gray, Maine — the lake being ‘Little Sebago Lake’.

♦ One biological child, a daughter (born before 2010, probably around 2004).

♦ Adopted two boys (NOT twins) from a Russian orphanage in 2010 via ‘KidsFirst Adoption’ agency in Indiana.. The youngest, the 11-year old shooter, would have been 2-years old at the time. The older brother was probably 4 or 5.

They violated Russian adoption rules, which require mandatory yearly updates, by ceasing to send such reports after the third year.

♦ Believed to have had, c. 2010, $100,000 in credit card debts & $250,000 in student loans.

But, had not stopped them from buying a boat, a timeshare and a Mercedes Benz camper.

Legal Woes

♦ 2009 IRS audit on ‘Innate chiropractic’ that resulted in the IRS asking for $100,000+ in payments.

They contested the IRS in court.

♦ August 2011: With battle with IRS ongoing they file for bankruptcy: over $2 million in liabilities, just $600,000 in assets.

♦ March 2012: Stopped paying mortgage.

♦ July 2012: Dismissed bankruptcy proceedings. Not going as they had hoped. They were now liable for all of their ever mounting debt.

Move to Alton

♦ Late 2012: They abscond from their Gray, Maine house (with its unpaid mortgage) at night — taking with them, among other things, the water heater from the house.

♦ Farmhouse, at 76 Dobbins Way, Alton, where the shooting took place, was supposedly built-in 1770. It sits on 19-acres.

It was purchased in October 2012 for $140,000 — supposedly by Lizette Eckert’s father.

♦ Lizette started working for ‘Sanctuary Bodyworks and Sauna‘ in Pittsfield, NH, as a chiropractor.

♦ James ran a chiropractic business, from home, in Alton, called “The Big Idea“. [I can’t find any details about it or whether he was licensed to practice in New Hampshire.]

UPDATE: His NH license supposedly lapsed in 2015. Possibly her’s too. Check this April 11, 2019 post.

My Musical Christmas Gift To YOU: “A King Is Born” By The Incomparable 2012 Luther College Norsemen.

by Anura Guruge

Merry Christmas 2017.

This amazing performance will set you up for the day.

You will thank me for sharing this with you.

Please ENJOY.

This was part of the featured 2012 “Christmas at Luther” on PBS. I was fortunate enough to have recorded it. Blew our minds — it was so good. I kept it on my DVR until I had to return it because we switched satellite providers.

Luther College” in Decorah, Iowa, noted for its musical program, does a gala, “Christmas at Luther” concert series each year. In 2012 PBS aired it and made it famous. As far as I can see PBS has not done another and do not, alas, repeat the 2012 recording.

But, thanks to YouTube we do have access to the 2012 concert.

It was special. This was my favorite. I think the lead singer is magical. I need to find out what happened to him.

In the meantime, please do enjoy this amazing rendition.

Merry Christmas.

Petition To Get Democratic Party Superdelegates In New Hampshire To Toe The Line Misses The Point All Together!

Lot of people, many of them (tellingly) Bernie supporters, just do NOT seem to get the raison d’être as to why the Democratic Party (the DNC) has Superdelegates.

Delegates that honor the will of the people are the NORMAL delegates! That is already in place. These are the so called PLEDGED delegates. They reflect the will of the voters. Done. Given.

The whole point of having Superdelegates, per the DNC, is to temper the will of the voters IF proven, professional democrats — many of whom have won elections — believe that the will of the voters may not be to the best strategic interest of the Party.

Simple as that.

Plus why single out New Hampshire. There are Superdelegates in every State. There were Superdelegates in Iowa.

Plus why should folks from outside of New Hampshire have any say in our Superdelegates.

Here is something that will get the Bernie folks riled. Bill Clinton is a Superdelegate in New York State! Guess who will get his vote.
