I am NOT getting too excited and getting my hopes up.

Willow, as it did with Vivo IPL 2018, last year, could screw us again, at the last minute.

So, let’s wait and see.

It all has to do with what constitutes STREAMING. Bloody, despicable (Indian) Hotstar, the scummiest company ever, has the STREAMING rights for the 2019 World Cup — in the U.S. (just like it did for Vivo IPL 2018 & 2019).

Willow TV could only show the World Cup 2019 on TV — i.e., not streaming. You had to TRY and watch the World Cup on Hotstar’s pathetic coverage.

But, now Sling and Willow TV are claiming that they will cover the World Cup 2019.

But, keep your options open.

I am LUCKY. I have Sling/Willow TV & Hotstar. So, I am covered. But, I would rather watch on Willow TV that bloody Hotstar.

I will, of course, keep you posted.

Willow TV did it AGAIN.

Even this morning, on Roku/Sling it was showing upcoming Vivo IPL 2019 matches.

But, this evening they were ALL gone.

Yes, it appears that it all has to do with the definition of ‘streaming’.

Vivo IPL 2019 is available on Willow — BUT not on Roku/Sling!

Luckily I already had Hotstar.

So, now YOU know.

Enjoy.

Already watched the highlights of Match 1. SMILE>

I Canceled Sling TV/Willow As Promised — Enough With Their Duplicity & Lack Of Cricket.

by Anura Guruge

My subscription did not end till this Sunday, i.e., April 22, 2018. So there wasn’t any point cancelling it earlier.

But, as promised, I did. Had it with Sling. It is a very duplicitous outfit. All they try to do is screw you.

Hotstar” is NOT great. After the first two matches they again stopped having full-length, ball-by-ball replays. You can watch it live, but after that it is only SHORT, unsatisfying snippets.

Not sure what I am going to do come June and IPL 2018 is over.

For Vivo IPL Cricket In U.S., Cancel Sling TV/Willow And Get “Hotstar (US)” For $9.99 — 1st Month FREE.

With the 1st month FREE we have nothing to lose and much to gain. For those of you who like IPL it would be a godsend.

Definitely NO Vivo IPL 2018 on Sling TV. That is definite.

Actually there is NO NEW cricket on Sling TV via Willow or any other channel. Willow has totally gutted what is available on Sling TV as of mid-week.

I signed up with “Hotstar” on my Roku 3. It works. Need a PC to activate (with code provided on Roku).

No Vivo IPL 2018 as yet — but that starts TODAY.

So, this is my recommendation.   NOT ANY LONGER! See below.

I, a few weeks ago, happened to be reading about the invention of the Slinky and was staggered to discover that the original spring that provided the inspiration had been manufactured for the U.S. Navy and that Richard T. James, the inventor, had seen it ‘Slink’ for the first time, at his Navy OFFICE — and that he had taken that government property spring HOME to experiment.

This was 1943. I have NOT checked the details BUT I have a very strong hunch that as a Government scientist/engineer he probably had signed some kind of intellectual property (IP) contract with the government. Basically it would have covered confidentiality and that ANY inventions made at any time, during once employment, BELONGED to the employer. In 1974 I had to sign such a contract with IBM. Basically ANYTHING I came up in terms of IP while I worked for IBM belonged to IBM — or at least I had to given them first option to evaluate whether they wanted it or not. IF I had done what R. T. James did, IBM (albeit more savvy in such matters than the U.S. Government) would have come after me with all guns blazing and as many would know, IBM employed a veritable army of high power IP lawyer.

From what I can see this was not right. I have NOT read anywhere that he sought Government approval to ‘steal’ this invention. I would even content that he misappropriated government property when he took the first spring home!

So how come the Government hasn’t done anything? Yes, maybe the statute of limitation is long gone. But there has got to be SOMETHING that can be done. This, to me, seems wrong. All the profits should BELONG to the U.S. Government — and they could sure do with it.

So a head’s up.

NEO Cricket Channel No Longer Available On DISH Network. No Great Loss. But, They Owe Us A Price Reduction.

NEOdish1

When I noticed in early April that the NEO channel on DISH (#713) was showing the same exact programming as that of Willow (#712), I immediately knew that something was up — and that it wasn’t going to be good.

I was never a fan of NEO. They had no idea, whatsoever, of how to cover cricket and their programming was for Indian kids. I never watched it. I only watch Willow and Ten Cricket. So, losing NEO was not of consequence to me — other than on principle. I was paying for 3 cricket channels and DISH as such owed me 3 channels. I called up and got quite a good deal from them for 3 months. I won’t divulge what the deal was because I don;t want to get anybody in trouble. But, I hung up the phone with a smile on my face.

I now see that NEO is going away and to me it is GRBR. But, I am still paying for 3 channels, though DISH is now going to claim that they are giving me Willow in HD. I can counter that I pay for lifetime HD with DISH and that all my channels should be in HD. To be honest I have yet to see a marked improvement in picture quality on Willion (and, yes, I have a very good, 47″ Philips HD set that displays vivid HD if it is properly transmitted).

I am not impressed with the way that Willow and Ten Cricket are run. That they cannot provide meaningful programming information is puerile. I can’t find much information about either company but I have a feeling that they are predominantly Indian run. To me, that is the problem. They could do with some non-Indian management to stop them from being so complacent and lackadaisical. One of these I will really tell you what I feel about these two channels — and remember I do watch at least 45 minutes of cricket a day, rain or shine. So I do have lots of hands on experience with these two channels.

NEO Cricket Channel On DISH Network Gets A 5 – 6 Week Sabbatical Till Mid-May 2013. Same Willow Cricket On Both Channels 712 & 713.

I hadn’t checked my three 24×7 cricket channels on DISH for a ‘few’ days now. OK, maybe even a week. I still have in excess of 80 hours recorded and since I, at most, only get to watch 45 minutes a day, it is going to take me 3 months just to watch what I have now. Plus, I am running out of room.

But today I idly checked the schedule and noticed that NEO was missing — not that I really cared because I rarely if ever watch any cricket on NEO. Noticed that Willow was being shown on both channels 712 & 713. Eaxact same programming. So it was just the principle of things. I am paying my $19.99/month for 3 channels, not 2. So, I called up DISH.

They told me the news. We sorted things out very amicably. DISH tends to be good to me, as you would expect given my monthly bill. I was happy and they were happy that I was happy.

So NO NEO till mid-May. Not that I care. Not really sure who watched NEO. It is not a credible cricket channel. To me it is like MTV with cricket videos.

I think, I am not sure, that it is the IPL. Something else that I don’t watch. Has zero appeal to me. I am still warming up to T20. Have seen a few decent T20s. I will typically record a T20 if WI, Ind. or Pak is playing. Yes, I don’t typically watch SL playing T20. Actually, of late, I haven’t watched much SL at all! Back to my longtime obsession with WI. They are getting better and with that, I find them, as ever, compelling.

So the bottom line is that if you notice that NEO is missing on DISH, do not panic.
