Poor Justin. If it helps, I am NOT offended. I am actually honored. I want more white honkies to know what it is like to live through life with a brown face — especially a brown face like mine. Man, it is hard. A daily struggle.
OK. I admit it. I am not sensitive. Nah. That is not 100% true. There is still a bit of I that is way too sensitive even in my dotage.
I just felt that somebody needs to stand in solidarity with Justin.
OK, just for the record he is not my real cousin though he is definitely considered very much family. He has been in the family for over 35 years, ever since he was 12. He lived with my parents for a long time.
He has worked in D.C. Embassies since 1992 — starting when my father was the Sri Lankan Ambassador to D.C.
He now works for the Canadian Embassy (and loves it).
This picture was taken Monday afternoon at the Canadian Embassy and includes some of the support staff.
It, as proclaimed by the seal at the bottom, is an official, ‘Office of the Prime Minister’ photograph. So, I think it is very much public domain — though Upali sent it to me and said it was ‘OK’ to post. I blurred out the other faces out of a surfeit of caution — given today’s sad climate.
Just thought it would be cool to share.
