This Autopilot Tesla Crash That Killed 2, With A Fire That Took 4-Hours To Extinguish, Angers, Disappoints & Saddens Me.

by Anura Guruge

The above is from the U.K. ‘Daily Mail’. Click here for their outstanding coverage.

This is FRIGGING bloody wrong. This makes me very angry, sad & dissapointed.

We are NOT ready for autopilot cars, Tesla or otherwise — & I write this as a HUGE Tesla fan & a very contented & happy, v. long-term Tesla investor. Yes, this crash will send TSLA stock tumbling on Monday. That does NOT bother me much. SMILE. I invested in TSLA years ago. SMILE.

This is WRONG. Bloody WRONG.

We are just NOT there when it comes to autopilot. To plug autopilot is just pure wrong & irresponsible. Yes, ‘they’, government agencies & families should go after Tesla. Sue the pants off them — & again, I speak as one who owns more than just a few shares of Tesla.

This has to END.

We need tighter regulations about autopilot.

I would be so, so, so upset if an autopilot car killed one of my kids. Think about it.

Plus, firefighters being unable to put out the fire caused by the batteries. This is NOT RIGHT. 4-hours to put out a car fire! Jesus wept.

One MORE Female Zoo Keeper, The 6th To My Knowledge Since 2013, Attacked By Captive Big Cat; I Blame Hormones.

This has happened TOO MANY times of late for us to pretend that there is NO connection.

I get grief from women who think I am trying to prevent females from working with Big Cats. Not at all.

I am just stating something that you just cannot overlook. I am NOT an out-and-out expert but I do know some about Big Cats, females and female hormones. I have three daughters and currently live in a house with three females.

Female hormones are powerful entities. And if you THINK that a Big Cat cannot smell changes in female hormones you have been smoking some bad stuff for too long. That is my only point.

I think there is a hormonal connection.

I am familiar with, and have documented 4 instances of such attacks by tigers on female zookeeper, since 2013. They are: Dianna Hanson in California in March 2013, Renee Radziwon of Portland in November 2013, Sarah McClay in the UK in May 2013 and then Rosa King, at Hamerton Zoo Park, also in the UK, in May 2017.

That so many young female zookeepers are being attacked by Big Cats could, of course, all be but an unfortunate coincidence.

BUT, there is something else we should consider. These are all women were still of childbearing age. I think that there is an hormonal connection, something to do with ‘scent’ that tigers and lions can smell. IF you think they can’t smell changes to our scent due to hormonal changes, then you are probably not that familiar even with domestic dogs.

It is something, I think, that should be studied further. We might be able to save some lives of other female zookeepers.

Some of the larger of the Sri Lankan Buddhist temples keep one or more ceremonial elephants — typically used in ‘peraheras‘ (i.e., parades) — on site. They serve as a draw — those coming to the tempe like to go and see the elephants. It is like having a zoo within the temple.

That a very senior and distinguished monk, a head monk at that, dying as a result of an accident with a temple elephant is not good PR.

While at least one report claims that the priest was pushed to the grounds — the official line is that the priest had an accident while feeding the elephant. C’est la vie. I think the truth is somewhere in between. Elephants, especially tame ones, are usually very gentle. Unlikely to push an elderly man, a familiar one at that, that violently. But, we will never know. ‘Nit cricket’ for the truth to come out in a situation like this.

Poor John Lennon, Of ‘The Beatles’, Was Murdered This Day, 37-Years Ago; December 8, 1980.

by Anura Guruge

They say that people remember when they were when they heard that President John K. Kennedy had been shot on November 22, 1963. I do too. I was in Ceylon, all of 10-years old. My adoptive father got a phone call. I don’t know from whom. Then he came and sat down and said: ‘President Kennedy had been shot‘.

I was 27-years old when John Lennon got killed. I remember that more graphically.

We, and by that I mean MOST Brits living in Great Britain at the time, did not hear about the tragic shooting until the next day, Tuesday, December 9, 1980. That was because the shooting took place in New York at 10:50pm U.S. Eastern Time. It was already Tuesday morning in Britain.

I heard the news, that totally shattered me, on my company car radio, around 8am, while seated in traffic, in north London trying to get to work at ITT in Cockfosters. I can still see it in my mind’s eye. Me sitting in traffic. Yet another damp, dark, dreary December morning. It was all shades of grey and brown. I sat there in shock.

Wow. 37-years ago.

Yet Another Female Zoo Keeper, The 5th To My Knowledge Since 2013, Attacked By Captive Tiger; I Suspect Hormones.

This attack, in Russia, of a female zookeeper by a ‘Big Cat’ is not the first — though she was lucky in that she was NOT killed.

The “massacre of the innocents” by the dastardly Germans.
1,198 killed (94 children) — 128 Americans.
Another reason I will NOT own a German car and
openly ridicule those that do —
including my own family members.

This sinking, and their are valid theories that the Lusitania was sacrificed for the ‘better cause’,
was what got the U.S. into seriously thinking about getting involved in WW I
— and even then it took another ‘2 years’.

A sad and sobering anniversary. The Lusitania does not get the same attention that the Titanic commands — though historically the Lusitania was a more significant event. Much more interesting too. My now 22-year old son, Matthew, aged 3, following a visit to the Maritime Museum at the Greenwich Observatory (London, U.K.), became, overnight, a maritime disaster buff — an avid interest he maintained well into his teens. Thanks to his interest I learned a lot and still have a fairly large ‘Titanic’ library and memorabilia. Matthew was into the Lusitania too and I would watch documentaries with him. I remember all the stuff about the zig-zag course it tried to follow when it entered the war-zone around Ireland and people on shore seeing the disaster.

Please take a minute to reflect and RESOLVE

The March death in the U.S. Lots of parallels. Click to access YouTube video.

As I said in my March post when we had the tragic death here, I am not an out-and-out expert but I do know some about tigers, lions and leopards and have a fair amount of experience in animal behavior having had over ten dogs.

My druthers tell me that there seems to be a hormonal connection here which ‘confuses’ the cats. I don’t have to get graphic here but think about it. There are certain smells that are visceral and a cat can’t be blamed for getting ‘confused’.

I really think game ‘preserves’ like this really should institute a rigorous policy when it comes to young ladies and large cats. There should be clearly defined rules that say that young ladies can’t enter an enclosure with big cats under certain circumstances. That is common sense and if anybody thinks otherwise, I would have to say that they are being stupid.

Kind of funny, but I think Hindu temples used to have rules akin to this that precluded women from entering certain parts of the temple if they were …

The Hindus are ‘funny’ about this. They consider it ‘unclean’! Grand scale firewalking is very much a part of Hindu lore. [I thought I have talked about firewalking before, but it appears not.] From the little that I know about firewalking (and I had an uncle, yes my doctor uncle, who walked the fire three times in the early 1960s), one of the factors that would bar you from walking the fire was ‘contact’ with an ‘unclean’ women in the three days prior to the walk. I also think that under special circumstances they could would do a purification ritual to cleanse the person so that they could still walk the fire. My point here is that having a ‘no go’ period would not be unreasonable within the overall context of world cultures.

Here is a YouTube video of firewalking. Not from Sri Lanka. This is a pretty SMALL pit and affair! Click to access. Good quality video.

This is about the most famous firewalking ceremony in Sri Lanka. This is where my uncle walked. Click to read. Best I could find for now. Kind of busy. I will, one day, talk more about firewalking. This is the one thing, I confess, that I cannot truly explain, given that I have seen it first hand, but never at Kataragamma. Thousands would attend. Huge crush. I was little. I didn't like the crush.

I am in no way trying to be crude or prying. I have way to much respect for anybody involved with animal conservation to in any way disrespect them. I am also very fond of big cats.

Though by no means an expert, I do know a fair amount about the behavior and traits of Indian elephants and big cats. Another one of my areas of interests — which in this case has spanned four decades.

I hope somebody knows the answer to the above question. Hopefully the coroner checked.

IF she was, then it should be factored into big cat handling protocol. Female handlers should be told to take extra care or even stay away when they are menstruating.

Obviously there are hormones and smells involved. Google it if you wish, but it is fairly self evident. If a dog will react to it, you can be sure that a BIG male cat will not miss it.

That would explain so much. Hormones on both sides.

That is my hunch on this tragic incident.

I have been VERY IMPRESSED by the father. Bravo. Here is a link. If any of my kids wanted to work with wild life, I would not stop them. You have to do what you want to do. That they shot the lion distresses me and I know that the young lady too, if she was alive, would be distressed. It is a shame.

But, lets try and learn from this.
Somebody better find the answer to MY question.
