The Jaguar XJS V-12 (1989) Transported To Storage In Laconia For At Least A Year.

by Anura Guruge

Had to make room for the Volvo. We only have room in the garage & driveway for so many cars — for now 6. The Volvo would be seven. Don’t want to start parking cars in the yard. So, at least one had to go into storage. Had thought about putting BOTH Jags in storage BUT had trouble finding a place for one let alone two. So, decided to store the XJS. The XJ8 will get moved to the driveway with a fancy cover. But, I plan to continue driving the XJ8 when the weather is good. Since the Volvo is leased, & as such does carry a mileage allocation, having the XJ8 around will help.

Hoping that the Volvo XC60 will get delivered next week.

BEFORE & AFTER

They, led by ‘Hal’ work HARD & Well

‘Hal’ is responsive. He is ALWAYS checking for messages!

Hal, in the middle, checking his phone — for messages.

Absolutely AMAZING. From first contact to getting driveway sealed — 5-days!

Yes, 5-days. 5-days.

A mutual friend, ‘Heath England‘ of ‘Autofinders‘ (Laconia, NH), gave me his contact info. last Friday — i.e., July 31, 2020.

I called him right away. He asked me to text him my info. I did. He said he will come by & give me an estimate as soon as possible.

He texted me Sunday afternoon. Sunday afternoon. He was here within the hour. Sunday afternoon. Wow. I was impressed. I like folks who work hard.

His price was DECENT. Very decent. Nothing to quibble about. I was HAPPY. I accepted it on the spot.

He said he will try & get it done within 2-weeks. I pressed him. SMILE. I have been trying to get this driveway paved since mid-June.

He texted me Monday & said ‘Wednesday’. But, then we had the storm coming.

He texted again this morning, Wednesday, to say he will be around this afternoon.

He was. Well, the pictures tell the story.

They were GOOD. I was impressed.

I gave him a nice ‘tip’ PLUS went to Hannaford & bought all three of them ‘drinks’ for when they were finished. I was that happy. SMILE.

This was a great relief. I had been screwed by ‘Sunday Paving & Sealing’ in Wolfeboro! Forget Sundays. I couldn’t get any sense — let alone any work — Monday to Friday. Stark contrast from HD. I had ACCEPTED an estimate from ‘Sunday Paving & Sealing’ on June 23. They said ‘within a month’. Well on July 30 I was still waiting. They then said, ‘September’. That is when I went looking again, & luckily, thanks to Heath, came across ‘Hal’. I am so happy.

Total, unreserved RECOMMENDATION — HD Seal & Stripe.

Great folks. Great attitude.

Good work. Good price. Good work ethic.

‘Preferred Warranties Inc’ (PWI) Delivered, In Full, On Their Promise To Pay For Car Repairs. I Am Delighted.

by Anura Guruge

They paid, per their promise — less the $100 deductible.

The check came within ‘the week’ of us filing in the paperwork.

They provided towing, as promised.

That is all I was expecting. And they lived up to my expectations.

When I bought the 2008 Ford Taurus from Heath England (the proprietor) at ‘Autofinders‘ (in Laconia, NH) it came with 3-months of ‘Preferred Warranties Inc‘ (PWI) coverage. Heath, from what I know, typically includes that with most of his cars. I liked Heath and I got talking to him while my 18-year old daughter test drove the Taurus — though the car wasn’t for her.

Heath assured me that PWI actually delivers. I, a professional cynic, was skeptical. But, he was adamant. Said that it was one of the few warranties that truly worked. I asked him to give me some local garages that accept PWI. He wrote down two names. I asked him IF I could get additional coverage — beyond 3-months. He said ‘Of course, but it will cost ya‘. Well, I was born a long time ago. I ended up agreeing on a 2-year warranty and Heath nominally deducted the 3-months that was previously included. It was NOT cheap. It cost me over $800.

But, I believe in insurance. I understand insurance. I know how insurance works. You buy insurance for the peace of mind. To cover costs in EXCESS of what you are willing to tackle.

[All that said above, I do NOT have life insurance on myself or anybody else. Never bought a life policy. Never will. SMILE. But, car/property/health insurance is different.]

Well, I (and to an extent Heath) lucked out on that Taurus. One full year with NO issues — though it has to be noted that we put a grand total of “3,800” miles on it!

Then pretty close to its one-year anniversary the brakes went. We were just on our way to Maine, though we were only taking the Taurus as far as the kennels where we board the dogs.

When we got back we took the Taurus to a new mechanic in Rochester — that came recommended from the dog kennels.

But, prior to taking it in we called and filed a CLAIM. They immediately stepped up with towing. That was nice. We didn’t need it. We pay top dollar for AAA ‘Premier’. Remember, I said I believe in insurance. But, we used their towing — which was prompt and good enough. [We wanted to give AAA a break. They have their hands full towing my Jags. SMILE.]

The mechanic did call PWI and give them his costs etc. But, he wasn’t willing to deal with them. He wanted to be paid by us, in full, by check. We kind of suspected that too.

We paid. Got the bill, from the mechanic, stating that we paid and then sent that to PWI via e-mail.

I called a few days later to check on the status. They said the check had already been cut!

The check came today. I am delighted.

Now there are those that will argue that I am still $500 in the hole. I do NOT see it like that.

For a start there is still 11-months left on the warranty. We might need other work. Plus, this ‘job’ could have been more expensive. That is why I have insurance.

So, Heath England was right. PWI does deliver and for the record so does Heath. SMILE. You can call him at 603-527-0055.

Bottom line here. I am telling you that PWI delivered — at least in this instance.

‘Autofinders’, Laconia, N.H. Now Sells The BEST Homemade Apple Pies In The Lakes Region — Cheap Too, At $6.90.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. All the info to order an apple pie from Keith is there. Call: 603-527-0055.

It started off last year as a way of saying ‘Thank You’ for buying car from ‘Autofinders‘ — one of the best used car dealerships in the State. You bought a car and Keith would give you an apple pie.

The apple pies were so, so good that folks started calling or stopping by asking whether they could buy more! In the end, Keith, one hell of a salesman, decided ‘what the heck’ I will sell apple pies too. That is how they got into selling apple pies — and they are still outstanding. Good price too.

Only problem: limited quantity each day and when he is sold out, he is sold out. Keith will then try to sell you a car as compensation. That is really not that bad of a deal. Explains why I now own 6 cars!

Keith’s girlfriend makes these pies. She is gifted. When they started Keith only needed about a dozen a day. Yes, he would sell that many — i.e., cars (not pies) — in a day. She doesn’t want to go into mass production. Quality (and care) comes before quantity. Hence, the limited supply.

Very, very yummy. I am glad that I live 40-minutes away because I would be around every day buying an apple pie.

Check it out. You will THANK me (as ever). Call Keith at 603-527-0055.

Enjoy.

11 hits on this post today, which means that quite a few folks were ‘Googling‘ (i.e., searching on) “Nude Beaches New Hampshire” (or similar) TODAY.

It is the depths of winter and the beaches are covered in snow.

Look at the stats above. This post gets hits year around — albeit with more in the Summer months (when it makes sense).

Yes, it is also related to ‘Free The Nipple‘ & ‘topless‘ in New Hampshire and some of the spikes in the stats are when there has been news re. ‘Free the Nipple’ court cases.

I am NOT complaining. It just amuses I. Maybe folks are looking ahead to the Spring.

But, you are more than welcome to look and I do have similar posts for Maine as well as Acadia. SMILE.

Enjoy.

P.S., All beaches in New Hampshire are nude after dark. SMILE. I would know.

P.P.S., There are NO female topless LAWS in New Hampshire — though Laconia tries to enforce a local ordinance.

So Delighted & Relieved That Andrew Hosmer, A Great Person, Will Be The Mayor Of Laconia, N.H.

This is great news. I was waiting for the results, on tenterhooks, all day. I kind of knew he would win, but you can never be sure.

Andrew Hosmer will be a GREAT MAYOR. Just what the doctor ordered for Laconia. Laconia will enjoy a renaissance under Andrew’s benevolent leadership.

I don’t live in Laconia, but I am sure glad for those that do. Life will be better with Andrew Hosmer.

Rejoice. A great day for Laconia.

He is genuinely good man.

Did I already mention that I was happy?

SMILE.

“Friendly’s” Restaurant In Laconia (N.H.) Not The Only “Friendly’s” Closing — Quite The Rout.

by Anura Guruge

Learnt about the LaconiaFriendly’s” closing from the “Daily Sun”. Was quite surprised. Always appeared to do a decent business. We had eaten there earlier this year.

I have no problems with “Friendly’s“. I actually quite like their menu. For 5 – 6 years “Friendly’s” was Teischan’s unconditional favorite. Only place she wanted to eat. Only place she wanted to have her birthdays. I know we had at least 3 birthdays for her at “Friendly’s”. Then, suddenly, this year she decided that “Friendly’s” was not hygenic enough for her! She is beyond fussy. If she sees a dirty glass … that is it. Kiss of death. She will not eat there again. So, we haven’t been to “Friendly’s” in 4 to 5 months. But, I am sure that it is not the lack of our patronage that is causing them to close down all these restaurants.

I read that they now only have one “Friendly’s” in Maine … one in Cape Cod. Those, to I, appear to be prime markets to “Friendly’s”.

Shame. Good place for kids. Decent food. Reasonable prices.

HUGE, Huge WIN For ‘Free The Nipple’ – Laconia, N.H. Now Sticks Out, Awkwardly.

The de facto win for ‘Free the Nipple‘ in ‘Fort Collins‘, Colorado is HUGE and with enormous consequences.

‘Fort Collins’ was trying to enforce the SAME local ordinance, when it came to female toplessness, as Weirs Beach, Laconia.

Fort Collins admitted defeat. Laconia should do the SAME.

A Circuit Court decision has sided with ‘Free the Nipple‘.

Kia Sinclair should rejoice. She was right all along.

This is GREAT. This is WONDERFUL.

The Laconia ordinance is wrong. It is now borderline invalid.

Kia Sinclair no longer needs to take this to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Case has been decided, in Kia’s favor, in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Kansas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.

SIX (6) states.

Laconia has no leg to stand on.

Kia Sinclair prevails.

Free the Nipple stands firm.

‘Autofinders’, Laconia, N.H. — Outstanding Used Car Dealership.

by Anura Guruge

Click image to access their very informative Website.

Click to access post.

I bought a 2008 Ford Taurus from Heath England, at ‘Autofinders‘ in Laconia, on Friday, January 25, 2019, and I have nothing but good things to say about the whole experience and the car.

It was an outstanding experience. Made you feel good. No buyer’s remorse of any sort. Heath and his dad, Jeff (the chief mechanic), made sure that the whole process was upfront, reasonable, quick and painless. Probably the BEST car buying experience I have ever had and as some of you know I am no stranger to buying cars. I have over the last 4 decades bought a lot of cars — on two continents.

On Thursday, January 24th, I needed ANOTHER car in a HURRY — like within 18-hours! We had to get rid of the 2004 Ford Explorer. It needed a wheel bearing. The Quest was in Maine for a week. Devanee (18) needed her car (the Infiniti) for school and work. Though the two Jags & the MGB were registered and insured I am not partial to using them in snow and we had a lot of snow on the ground and more coming. So, I needed a SNOW CAR — ASAP. That was when I serendipitiously stumbled upon ‘Autofinders’ and lucked out talking with Heath.

I had four requirements:

  1. A decent (but fair, win-win) price.
    …..
  2. Payment by credit card because there was no time for certified checks
    (and I have enough credit …) {Smile}.
    …..
  3. 20-day plates, because I wasn’t going to run-around getting it registered
(and I will not drive with illegal plates).
    ….
  4. At least a 30-day warranty in case the wheels fell off.
    ….

Trust me, it was NOT easy to find a dealership in NH who could meet all of these criteria until I found ‘Autofinders’.

I can’t believe the number of dealers that tell you, boldface, to use plates from another car! That is a CRIME. The police can arrest you if you get stopped. Incredible. I kind of automatically rule out clowns that tell me to commit a crime because it means that they have no compunction doing the same. And I rather not deal with that ilk. At ‘Autofinder’ you can get a perfectly valid 20-day plate for FREE. I liked that.

Yes, when I pay by credit card the merchant has to pay a percentage of the price to the credit card company as a commission. I know that, and I also know what the percentages are. So, I am NOT impressed when a dealer tells me that if I pay by credit card they want x2 to x3 times that commission! That just increases the price of the car. Heath was totally honest. Said he would juts charge me what it was going to cost him. You cannot be FAIRER than that. I liked him. He, belying his age, truly knows the art of the deal. He didn’t know but he was dealing with an ol’ pro. I liked his style. He knows that negotiations have to be fair, win-win on both sides.

I saw the Taurus online. I called up ‘Autofinders’. Spoke to Heath. We negotiated on price and warranty. Didn’t take long. I said I will be there the next day. Offered to give him a deposit, by credit card, over the phone. He didn’t want it. He said he would hold it for I. He trusted I. That was good.

Very smooth transaction and extremely FAST. Wow. He gets that paperwork done fast. It was good. I was impressed.

I wanted a longer extended warranty that covered more than the powertrain. He got me a 2-year deal. He sold it to me at a small discount, since this warranty replaced the one he was going to give me. I checked around on this warranty. People say that they will accept it.

So far, so good. No problems with the Taurus. We like it. It is AWD and as such handles snow with impunity.

So, as you can see I am rather chuffed with ‘Autofinders’.

No hesitation in recommending them. Call them up or go to see them. Talk to Heath or Jeff. You will like them both. They are fun, decent folk.

I am SMILING.
