Weak Pope Francis YET Again Has Trouble Accepting A FULL, COMPLETE Resignation From A Cardinal.

Just as he did with disgraced Scot Keith “I Lied” O’Brien in 2013, Francis chickened out at the last minute. He let O’Brien retain his ‘Cardinal’ title though he was NOT a cardinal. STUPID. He was a cardinal in name, but NOT really a cardinal!

Well, we did it again. Ditto, Becciu. He is no longer a cardinal, but is allowed to call himself a cardinal. How stupid. Makes a mockery of that saying that you are either pregnant or not. There is nothing in between.

You are either a cardinal or NOT.

Pope Francis yet again demonstrates he is weak & irresolute.

Another Catholic Cardinal RENOUNCES His Cardinaliate — Not Just His ‘Day Job’.

There is a LOT of confusion as to what this RESIGNATION entails BUT it is very clear that it is much more than his ‘Day Job‘, i.e., that of Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. Yes, he was in charge of making Saints & now it transpires he is NO Saint himself. Ironic. But, Church history is full of such ironies.

Fortunately, to all our relief, this resignation has NOTHING to do with SEX! It has to do with financial corruption — I think embezzlement. So, that is good, i.e., it not having to do with sex crimes.

I think he has totally resigned his cardinalate as did McCarrick in 2018 — the 1st such TRUE resignation in 90-years.

Others THINK (& hope) that he hasn’t gone the WHOLE hog & just relinquished his rights to be a cardinal elector — as did disgraced Scot Keith “I Lied” O’Brien in 2013 just ahead of the conclave. I don’t think so. I think 72-year old Giovanni Angelo Becciu is TOAST. Done. Gone.

This is HUGE!

First real resignation of a Catholic Cardinal in 90-years.

The FIRST Cardinal to resign in the now 20-year(+) Sex Abuse scandal.

A major turning point for the Catholic Church.  A coming of age so to speak. The Church and a pope finally taking some meaningful action against pedophile priests.

For a cardinal to resign (from the ‘College of Cardinals’) a pope must accept the resignation.

Popes are reluctant to do so because it makes Cardinals appear human! Popes want to convey the image that Cardinals, like Popes, are beyond reproach and cannot be judged on Earth. Well, this has, AT LAST (at last) broken the pattern. For that we need to thank Pope Francis. For once he has played the ‘White Man’ after he looked a fool in the way he handled O’Brien.

Pope John Paul II, Benedict XVI & Francis allowed two prior scumbags Bernard (bloody) Law (the Outlaw) and Keith “I Lied” O’Brien to remain as cardinals despite their blatant abuse — O’Brien, like McCarrick accused of having his own way with young men. Disgusting.

This is good. A real turning point.

McCarrick will never stand trial. He is 89 and they will let him die … That is their way.

But, this is a good day. Rejoice.

The Last Catholic Cardinal To Resign — Truly & Properly (Unlike O’Brien).

by Anura Guruge

Scotland’s Keith O’Brien (b: March 17, 1938, created: October 21, 2003) resigned from his Cardinalate 0n March 20, 2015, 2-years after the public disclosures of his homosexual practices with other priests. Though not precluded by the Vatican he had on his own volition decided not to attend the March 12 – 13, 2013 conclave that elected Pope Francis given that his crimes and cover up lies had been widely published in U.K. newspapers just a few weeks earlier. It, however, took 2 more years before his resignation was ‘partially accepted‘ by the pope.

Pope Francis, inexplicably, allowed him to retain his ‘Cardinal’ title. So, his resignation as a cardinal was only partial. A quasi-resignation.

I complained about it it then. Click image to access my original March 22, 2015 post.

So, we can’t really just say that the disgraced O’Brien was the last cardinal to resign — because he continued on as a cardinal, if only in terms of title!

The last cardinal to TRULY (and fully) resign was French Cardinal Louis Billot, S. J.in late 1927 [he having tendered his resignation in September and it being made public in December].

No, this is not a typo, an oversight or a lack of diligence on my part. << smile >>

Yes, it is 1927. So, NO we haven’t had a TRULY, REALLY cardinal resign in over 90 years.

Louis Billot, S. J.

The eleven Canons in the 1983 Code, i.e., Canons 349 t0 359, does not address the resignation of a cardinalate (only dealing with the need, if they are curial, to tender their curial office resignation to the pope after their 75th birthday).

But, Cardinal Billot’s resignation, when he disagreed with Pius XI’s (#260) condemnation of French political movement [viz. Action Française], demonstrates that it is, of course, possible for a cardinal to resign — provided the pope is willing to accept the resignation. That appears to be the rub. [Though we, the public, are unlikely to ever hear, it is possible that the lack of resignations during the ‘current’ clergy scandal is because the popes did not want to ‘hurt the Church further’ by having the resignation of cardinals.]

So, contrary to what many believe Austrian Hans Hermann Groër, the disgraced and discredited ex-Archbishop of Vienna, died a cardinal — though he was forced to relinquish all posts in Austria.

The infamous Bernard Francis Law, though he appears to have taken liberties with the LAW of the land, also continues as a cardinal though he, like Groër, had to relinquish his pastoral ties. He is in exile, but as a cardinal.

Hope this helps. I know that may think that Groër resigned. He didn’t. Or at least if he did, the John Paul II (#265) didn’t accept the resignation.
