‘Bright’ Talks Warns Of ‘Darkest’ … A Rare Headline.

by Anura Guruge

Yes, it was ‘whistleblower’ Dr. Rick BRIGHT warning of the ‘DARKEST winter’.

Yes, a stark & scary warning.

To I, with my fondness for names, it was amusing — BRIGHT & DARKEST.

Well, you have to SMILE.

Yes, another instance of a person with a BRILLIANT name.

Wow. How perfect.

Appears name actually comes from ‘Bright’ –> maybe ‘Bright Helmet’.

So, more to do with physical appearance than mental acuity, BUT, still neat.

Well, I have to live with ‘Guruge‘ — though I am not really complaining, even if 99.9% don’t have a clue as to what it means. SMILE.

Interesting Names: ‘Dr. Larry Brilliant’ — A Brilliant Name For A Respected Epidemiologist.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. From ‘Google News’. Just Google the name.

I had not encountered him before and that is OK.

Just happened to see him, live, on CNN. He is impressive.

His name CRACKED me up, but in a good way.

How neat. How apropos.

What must it be like growing up with that name?

What must have it been like becoming SUCCESSFUL with that name?

How many jokes did he have to endure — though none could have been painful.

It is hard to make fun of TRUE brilliance.

Love it.

Would never have been a good name for I, BUT, I sure would have liked to have had it.

But, I am NOT complaining. I kind of like ‘Guruge‘ — though 99.9% don’t have a clue as to what it means. SMILE.

Interesting Names: “Cunnett” & A Mouth To Match — Which Gets Him 7-Months In Prison.

I guess with that name the ‘c-word’ must just trip from your tongue.

I was not familiar with that name.

It is an old British name that even appears in the Domesday Book. A variant, that makes sense, is “Connett”. Both the names are believed to be from the Latin for “Constantius”. Other than that folks have no idea what the name means.

Just amused me that he, with that name, would have such a potty mouth. 7-months in jail should sure cool his jets. Not sure how that impacts his marriage let alone his honeymoon.

The dangers of drinking and flying.

Where Did The British Surname ‘Pope’ Come From — As In New Test Cricketer, Ollie Pope.

by Anura Guruge

Yes, of course, I have heard the NAME ‘Pope’ before BUT it was the new, 20-year old English cricketer, Ollie Pope, who made his Test debut against India yesterday that got me thinking.

Yes, there were popes that were married, and yes, there were popes that fathered children. But, I doubted whether any of those would have carried a surname ‘Pope’.

Plus, ‘Popes’ in very Anglican Britain.

So, I had to go looking. Appears it was a ‘not too nice’ nickname that stuck! Yikes. Indicated a pompous person that acted like a pope.

Yes, a possibility, that it might relate to those with a church, in particular bishopric, connection. But, the consensus is that it was most likely a nickname to start with. How a nickname eventually becomes a family name is a whole another conundrum.

People With Interesting Names: “Erica Houskeeper” of “HappyVermont.com”

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. An e-mail from “Revels North”.

Click to access her Website “HappyVermont.com”.

I first saw it, in a flash, on an e-mail I got from “Revels North” (first image above). I read it, subconsciously, with the ‘e’ inserted and thought “Wow, what an interesting name“.

I saved the e-mail because I wanted to research the name. When I went back I discovered that there was NO ‘e’ BUT it sure looks and sounds like it did. I am not sure how they pronounce it.

I, of course, Googled it. Much to my surprise and chagrin I couldn’t find what it means or where it came from — though I will confess I did not spend much time.

I, however, discovered that Erica is not alone and it could be a married name. There is an actor with that name — on IMDb.com.

I think it is German but I could be wrong. German for that duty is haushälterin.

I am going to send her this link and ask her whether she can help me with her name. I think it is neat. I like it.

People With Interesting Names: A Weatherman Named “Ken Weathers”.

by Anura Guruge

Click here for the U.K. “Daily Mail” original.

Made my day when I saw in the U.K. “Daily Mail” this morning — the “Daily Mail” (which I have read most of my life) being the first thing I read every morning, while still lying in bed.

Wonder whether his name ‘Weathers’ influenced his desire to become a ‘weatherman’? Wonder if many comment about it … at all?

But now … it gets more ‘amusing’.

Who would have thought. A castrated ram! Poor Mr. Weathers. Wonder if he knows that?

Cracked me up when I read the story on “marketwatch.com“.

You have to have both magical chutzpah & huge kahunas to be able to run a ponzi scheme with a name “Rude”. I am in awe. Wow.

It gets better. The article says he had excellent ‘soft skills’ and was non-threatening. I guess he was NEVER rude.

I had never heard of ‘it’ as a name.

Nearly 9,000 folks in the U.S. Wow.

Per the last U.S. census we are supposed to have 151,671 last names in the U.S.

Click to ENLARGE. AGAIN from: mynamestats.com.

So, 4,553 in the ranking is kind of down there — BUT way more than I would have suspected.

I hope that they will not be too rude to him when he is prison.
