Coronavirus COVID-19: The Last Wave Will Be A Tsunami Of Lawsuits.

by Anura Guruge

I have dealt with dozens, know too many and worked for two. I know U.S. lawyers. I know how they think; how they work.

Many must already have very raw hands by rubbing them together so much — in anticipation & glee.

This is going to be a bonanza for them.

They will find LIABILITY. Yes, the big companies — the big chains — are going to be fine. They already had their lawyers make sure that their employee can’t come at them down the road.

Not so smaller outfits and possibly even individuals.

This virus genome testing that allows infections to be traced …. See the two images below.

Extrapolate this …

Down the road they will be able to trace back infections to SPECIFIC LOCATIONS. Think shops, restaurants (takeout be damned), hotels etc.

Then the LIABILITY dance will commence.

Mark my word.

You will have lawyers on TV … “If you had COVID call 1-800- ….“.

Law School Attendance In The US Down, Way Down!

by Anura Guruge

Click to read very informative ‘NPR’ piece.

Click to access another related article, this one in ‘marketplace.org’.

I happened to hear this on NPR (as in first image) yesterday and had to do a double-take. They are even talking of law schools closing down.

Wow.

Law school enrollment & attendance really is down. Half of what it was a decade ago?

Who would have thought? Who would have credited? If anything you would think that more ‘kids’ wanted to be lawyers when they see all these rich & famous lawyers on TV.

Yes, it is not cheap becoming a lawyer. That is supposedly a factor. But, there is also the rewards.

I am surprised. I guess all the jokes about lawyers have finally come home to roost.

A U.S. with not as many lawyers. Wow. What is that going to be like. I can predict one thing. Their rates will go up even further. That, obviously, will cause the tide to reverse.

I will have to keep an eye on this. See who I know is planning to become a lawyer.

“Hotel Transylvania 3” Movie (2018) — Stupid Enough To Be Vaguely Entertaining.

by Anura Guruge

Click image to access IMDb.com listing for this movie.

Click to access my comments on ‘2’ from 2015.

We saw it at ‘Cinemagic‘ in Portsmouth, NH — our preferred movie theater (of late). They were having some kind of ‘special’ and all tickets were $8. I wasn’t aware of this price until I got the tickets, BUT I was sure glad we hadn’t paid more because $8/ticket was just the right price.

Teischan (12) & I have seen all three ‘Hotel Transylvania‘ movies — at the theater. She WAS a big fan and did want to see ‘3’. But, she doesn’t think they should, or would, make a ‘4’. She thinks they are done.

That about sums it up.

It was OK. It is so, so STUPID that you are kept vaguely amused. The music was good. Some downright funny bits, but it is getting tired and forced.

The theater yet again, as it as been the last few times we have been, was near empty. SIX people in TOTAL, with us. That is scary. Yes, it was a midweek matinee, but it is Summer and this is a kid’s movie. There was a girl, of about 8, seated by herself, behind us — on the very back row. I asked her if she liked it. She loved it. So, that was good. Teischan & I are both getting too old.

Some of the music was good. Without spoiling it for you, I can tell you that this macarena scene is one of the better bits:

If you have young kids you might have no choice but to take them. But, try not to pay more than $8/ticket.

So, at best, a very qualified recommendation.

Why Do U.S. Drug Commercials Say Not To Take It If You Are Allergic To It — Are Americans That Stupid?

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and read my annotations. Base ad. for Otezla.

It is MOST blatant in this annoying TV commercial for ‘Otezla’. It says it so loud and clear. If you are lucky enough never to have heard it, just check the above video — ONCE. You need to hear it — once.

So, are Americans that stupid?

Well, we could start with Donald Trump. Enough said?

Yes, yes, yes. I know it is to do with Tort Law and product liability, BUT that raises the question as to whether American judges are that stupid — and I won’t even bother mentioning lawyers! So, this is what they are worried about. An ‘injured’ patient telling a judge: ‘Yes, your honor. I still kept on taking Otezla even though I realized I was allergic to it. I didn’t bother to tell my doctor or pharmacist. I just kept on taking Otezla because a prior drug I took, which I was also allergic to, made me incredibly stupid.

I just finding it insultingly annoying.

What do YOU think?

“Roman J. Israel, Esq.” Movie (2017) On Starz — One Heck Of A Powerful Movie.

by Anura Guruge

Click image to access IMDb.com listing for this movie.

Another instance of me seeing a snippet of a movie on STARZ while idly channel-surfing and then deciding that it looks interesting enough to record to have a look at later. I am glad I did.

I like movies about lawyers and this was very much about one driven and strange lawyer, Roman J. Israel, Esq.

Very funny in parts but also rather arcane and deep in parts. So, definitely NOT for everyone. It helps if you are intrigued by what makes lawyers tick and have an interest in civil and human rights.

The whole movie takes place in an extremely intense 3-week period. Wow. I was riveted.

Reading the IMDb.com blurb I discovered that it was nominated for one Oscar — for best actor. I can see that.

So, just bringing it to your notice, if, you, like I, had not heard of this movie previously.
