Well compared to last year when we had a memorable cruise on ‘The Lake‘, the keyword, as far as I was concerned, for this year’s Volunteer Appreciation Cookout was ‘DRY‘.

Yes, it was dry in that it was a beautiful day, there was NO water in sight (which is a SHAME when we all live in the Lakes Region), I did not run the risk of getting soaked (as Bruce and I did last year by a rogue wave) because we were on very dry land and there was NO WINE — which to me makes everything very dry. Well, I fixed the wine paucity. The girls and I made a quick trip, in the XJ8, to the Wolfeboro Liquor Store. I did not realize how popular I am over there! Wow. Do I really visit them that often (and socialize with them)? Well in a way that was probably the most fun part of the afternoon making wine jokes at the Liquor Store(though I did tell my favorite Monica Lewinsky joke at the cockout because the mike (if not Mike) looked so forlong).

Of course it was nice to be with a few of the volunteers. Not sure where the others were.

The antique boats were allegedly the draw and they were sure nice though I am a tad puzzled how seeing a few, on trailers, inside a (lovely) barn was supposed to be something that special for this crowd. None of us are really strangers to boats or for that matter even classic boats. Hhhmmm. It is not like we don’t see classic boats on a regular basis …. Wasn’t there a big show, ON THE WATER, in Alton just a couple of weeks ago?

Well the 4 of us stayed on, with ‘Nancy’ and another lady, to help take down the tent, move all the tables and chairs etc. Teischan enjoyed that the best because she got to do a running commentary of what the others were doing. Maybe she was right. That was probably the best part of the cookout! There was at least some action. Funny that.

Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau 2013 Anura GurugeI can’t hardly wait. I am all set. I can already feel that warm, fruity, somewhat earthy, very satisfying flavor in my mouth.

I contacted Georges Duboeuf a couple of weeks ago and got two e-mails yesterday saying that I have been added to the list that will updates on the progress of the Beaujolais Nouveau. I am psyched. So I will be in a position to keep you abreast even better.

So heads up. The season is upon us. Let us enjoy. Life is short, Beaujolais Nouveau is a joy.

Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau 2013 Should Still Be Good In January, February Or Even Into March 2014.

On Monday of this week I was surprised to see that Market Basket in Concord had about 6 bottles of the 2013 Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau tucked away on one of their end-cap shelves. Wow. It was still marked at the original $10.99 price.

Got me thinking. There is NO REASON not to buy a bottle or two even now.

I drank my second bottle earlier this week. It was still outstanding. IF anything it wasn’t as tart, i.e., it was real gentle on the palate.

That Beaujolais Nouveau turns to vinegar in a few months is not really the case. As I just said I drank a 2013 bottle earlier this week — and it was FINE, just as I had expected it to be. This is NOT the first time I have drunk Beaujolais Nouveau in January or February.

In some past years the N.H. Liquor Store would start discounting the Nouveau come the next year. IF I happened to see such a mark-down I was known to typically grab some. I have never been disappointed. But, yes, this can be vintage dependent — though I am fairly sure that today’s vinters do put some amount of ‘preservatives’ into the Nouveau to keep it stable on the long, bumpy trip over the U.S. of A. So, I think that helps.

Bottom line, if you see a bottle grab it, especially if it has been discounted. It is worth the risk. I can’t see it getting too ‘tart’ this quickly. Have a glass and say ‘Cheers to the Good Life’.

P1090165I happened to stop by yesterday when we were in Portsmouth and was amazed to see that they still had this much left.

That is good, though I was very surprised.

The Wolfeboro N.H. Liquor Store had been sold out for weeks.

I tried to get some sense out of the employees but, alas, they are not Beaujolais Nouveau experts. To them it is just another brand that they stock. They can’t remember whether these are cases left over from the original shipment in November or whether they got a recent shipment. If they got a second shipment — that seems strange. You would have thought that they would have got everything out for THE DAY.

But this is good news. Storm the store. Buy it all up while they have some in store.

Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau 2013 May Already Be SOLD OUT In New Hampshire, If Not The U.S. High Demand, Less Stock.

On Thursday, December 5, 2013, while in Wolfeboro for Devanee’s Clearlakes Chorale practice I swung by the New Hampshire Liquor Store there to see how the Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau 2013 was doing. I was even planning to buy two more bottles given how much I enjoyed the bold taste of this year’s pressing.

I was foiled.

They were sold out.

They were sold out on the DAY. But, for Wolfeboro that meant November 22, 2013. Beaujolais Nouveau 2013 day + 1.

Appears that that they didn’t get their shipment delivered till Friday. Dear, dear, dear.

I am so glad that I bought mine, on the day, in Portsmouth.

Also appears that they ONLY got 2 cases.

They had got 14 cases last year. This year, citing production restrictions due to a smaller harvest, which I had heard about, Wolfeboro was told that they would only get 5 cases.

In the end they got 2.

Somebody came and bought a complete case. That left one. The bottles from that were gone that very day.

This is good — in a way. I am glad.

It was a good wine. I still have an unopened bottle. I will check around to see if any are still available in N.H. or the Web.

Today’s Laconia Daily Sun Decides That We Are In ‘N.N.’ (Possibly Because The State Voted Obama).

Today, December 6, 2012, in the 'Laconia Daily Sun'.

Today, December 6, 2012, in the ‘Laconia Daily Sun’.

Given that my middle name is ‘Typo‘, I better than most appreciate the joys and pitfalls of typos, but I have to say that the ‘Laconia Daily Sun‘ puts me to shame on a regular basis. I had at one point considered setting up a blog just to keep track of the daily bloopers from the Sun — which is the only newspaper I read in ‘print form’ on a regular basis. But, I realized that I just wouldn’t have the time to do it justice. Often I am convinced that Ed Engler, the Editor, who is noted for his wit, does this on purpose — just to get a rise. You may recall he is the same one that published that I had attended the ‘University of WHALES‘ — shamelessly making fun of my blubber. This amused me. So I wanted to share. The whole Liquor Store story doesn’t make sense either, but that isn’t a case of Ed pulling our collective leg. I read the story on WMUR. A bit of a stretch even for NH.
