Yes, of course, absolutely bloody brilliant. WOW. Who would have thought.

Just 7 deaths — though, of course, even ONE death is too much.

They, especially the government & health professionals deserve much kudos & applause for this superhuman achievement.

Left the developed countries in the dust by quite a FEW orders of magnitude.

Yes, the numbers may not be fully accurate. But, I doubt whether, worst case, it is off by much more than say 1/100th. So, maybe 64,900 cases & 700 deaths. That is still absurdly low.

Until last night, when a cousin living in Sri Lanka, who happens to be a doctor, told me the details, I was NOT aware of the draconian lockdown & curfew.

They shut down all ‘ports’ — inbound & outbound. Not just passengers, goods as well.

It has been FORTRESS SRI LANKA for over a month.

They sure managed to keep the virus in check. BRAVO.

But, but, but … was it worth it?

At WHAT a huge cost?

I am sure that they will study this at Harvard, in years to come, as a Case Study. Was it the right thing to do?

Yes, when they started the lockdown, they, obviously, did not know what the infection & death rates were going to be.

But, the unintended consequences! WOW.

It, of course, has decimated the economy and the economy was already in BAD SHAPE following the tourist slump post the Easter 2019 ‘incident’.

People will DIE because of poverty!

This is sad. This is BAD.

Yes, of course, this being Sri Lanka there is dirty politics involved!

And China.

China will gain even more control.

All in all, I do not think this is good.

But, I am NOT an expert and I have no skin in the game.

safetyIt has been 22 days since the glass broke — during the infamous ACS School Board Meeting on Monday, October 28, 2013.

It had not been replaced as of Monday, November 18, 2013 — according to the kids who took great delight in talking about it.

They have also informed us that there is supposed to be a Lockdown drill at the school this week. I am not sure whether pre-announcing such drills is the norm. Kind of seems to defeat the purpose though I can appreciate the concern for not causing undue fear and panic among the kids. [I have been told that the forthcoming Lockdown Drill was stated in the ACS Newsletter.]

The kids have also pointed out, quite correctly, that having missing glass in the middle-school library makes the library unsafe during a lockdown!

Now you would think that if kids can work this out that our Administration might also have been able to kind of muddle through to that same conclusion.

What are they waiting for? I hope they are not, as the saying goes, actually waiting for Christmas.

This was not a big deal. Cost cannot be the issue. The person who had the misfortune to close the door when the glass shattered offered to pay for the glass. So why the 28 day delay? The SAU has the money. Yet again as is now becoming rote somebody stopped me to tell me some ‘news’ about the school. This time while I was out running! It appears that the SAU has paid some hefty sums of money to an architect over the Summer. Well if we have that kind of money to pay an architect when we are hardly doing any new work on the building we must have the money for a small piece of glass.

IF money is really the issue let me know and let me see the estimates. Though I am not a rich man I will pay for the glass. Worse case I will skip a meal each day to get the money. I can stand to lose another 10 pounds for a good cause. I won’t even bother to ask about the original person who volunteered to pay.

Talking of school safety does anybody know whether ACS has held a safety-related  Joint Loss Management Committee (JLMC) meeting of late. Deanna requested the minutes from the last JLMC meeting a couple of weeks ago, but did not get an answer as yet. maybe they sent the e-mail to somebody else by mistake.
