I Have DRASTICALLY Cut Back On Wearing Knee Support Compression Sleeves.

by Anura Guruge

Prior posts on this blog.

I had my major knee surgery to reattach a completely busted quad tendon on March 7, 2019, i.e., roughly 11-months ago.

As soon as I was permitted to walk without crutches — i.e., after 6-weeks — I started a rigorous exercise regime which sees me walking around 7-8 miles a day. To start with I wore a proper brace on my damaged knee. After about 3 months of that I discovered compression sleeves.

I got HOOKED on them. And that was the CLUE.

I got hooked on them.

I wore them on both knees. They were super comfortable, provided great support and made both knees feel great. Pain was never a factor. I lucked out! I was pain free within 2-weeks of surgery. Great surgery and I am strange.

But, this got me thinking.

No gain without pain.

If it is too good to be true.

I think about these things.

Did some research. Yes, I could have continued wearing them, all the time, as I had done.

But, they were REDUCING the muscle & tendon strength I was gaining from all my exercise. Oh! I do 23-minutes on a stationary bike, most days too.

So, I have cut back on using the sleeves. Cut back quite dramatically.

Most days I don’t use them at all, at all. No problem so far. No pain. Knees haven’t buckled.

I do wear them if I conditions underfoot are bad. Want my knees supported if I fall.

So, that is the new regime. Hope this helps.

Do some research. Basically, it boils down to: “too much of a good thing“.

I Now Wear FOUR Knee Braces (Plus Studded Shoes) When I Go Out In The Snow/Ice!

by Anura Guruge

IF you want to be ultra pedantic
2 of the braces are ‘compression sleeves’.

But, this is my new regime for snow/ice.

These go on first for muscle/tendon support.

Then, these on top of those.

The lockable brace, LOCKED at 0° on my left injured knee,
the other on my right, so far uninjured knee.

Studded shoes.
But, have to be careful. You can slip/slide on them.

Walking stick with crampon to top it all off!

Living in New Hampshire I can’t escape snow and ice. Though we now have a monster 3-stage snowblower, with tracs, I still need to be out in the snow/ice — and I still do some shovelling. PLUS, I have to get in my 6 — 7 miles of walking.

After my slip-and-fall 10-months ago when I busted my quad tendon, I am rather anxious not to damage my knees again. Hence the precautions.

Since my injury (even prior to surgery) I started wearing a knee brace.

I now wear knee braces, on both knees, ALL DAY. I don’t need to, but they help and I have, honestly, become addicted to them! As my surgeon has said, it will not do any har. Might even do some good.

But, I know that it is the sudden ‘twisting’/extension of the knee/leg tendon/muscles that lead to injury. Hence, the locked brace and the semi-locked one. Hoping that if I do fall, and that seems odds-on, they might help keep the knee straight. That is the theory.

Just sharing with you, just in case.

All the braces are from Amazon. The compression sleeves are cheap; i.e., under $7/each.

Apple Already HAS A Trapdoor Built Into iPhones — IF NOT FBI Would NOT Have Made Request!

by Anura Guruge

iphonedfuYou need to be somewhat technical to understand and appreciate this.

The basic issue when it comes to this ‘Encryption Battle‘ is that the FBI wants Apple to develop some new code (a compromised version of the iPhone OS) that will enable the FBI to try entering new PINs, in rapid succession, programmatically, without the Apple OS deleting the encrypted data in the phone, or introducing delays between each attempt at entering the PINs.

So you have to ask the VITAL question (if you understand these matters).

IF the iPhone is locked — which is the case here — how can Apple or the FBI download this new code that they want Apple to develop.

IF an iPhone is locked then you should NOT be able to mess with the software already on it.

And this is where Apple has ALREADY compromised iPhones. They built into iPhones the so called “Device Firmware Upgrade” bypass. By attaching an USB connection to the iPhone you can enter DFU Mode.

To be fair to Apple this is a NICE recovery mechanism to provide.

BUT, if it wasn’t there NONE of this would have come up.

A locked iPhone would have stayed LOCKED until you found the PIN.

So Apple created this slippery path.

As a Computer Technologist of 47-years I just wanted you to know about this.

I am torn. I do clearly see both sides. So I think they should just throw the damn phone into the Pacific and that Apple should eradicate DFU mode.
