Fidelity MyVoice: Voice Recognition Login For Phone Interactions.

by Anura Guruge

It, i.e., enrollment in MyVoice, was easy and automatic — so to speak.

I had called to check on a tax issue! Yes, it is October and time to start thinking year-end-taxes. Right?

Once I entered my ‘passcode’ I was told that MyVoice was an option and I should ask the Fidelity Rep. about it.

After we talked taxes, I said I wanted to enroll in MyVoice.

He laughed and said “done”! I asked whether I have to say a phrase … NO! All conversations with Fidelity are recorded, independent of MyVoice. So, they have PLENTY of my voice recordings.

I haven’t TRIED it yet.

But, I gather, that when I next call in, all I will need to enter is my userID. Then when I start talking, ideally to a live Rep., the system will check my voice.

Neat. Cool.

Not that I call Fidelity that often. But, I like it.

TP-Link Archer C9, Inexplicably, Reverts To Factory Settings During 7.5 Hour Power Outage!

by Anura Guruge

tp-link

Strangest thing ever. We lost power today, i.e., September 11, 2016, for 7.5 hours because our electricity supplier ‘Eversource‘ (a.k.a. ‘Eversore‘) enjoys kicking its customers in the teeth, if not lower down.

But, after power was restored I couldn’t get my main Wi-Fi network to work.

The ethernet connected PCs, like this one, worked fine. But no Wi-Fi. Yes, I also have two very SEPARATE Wi-Fi networks in the house (actually 4) — with two different routers and two different ISPs, viz. MetroCast (the main network) and TDS (the backup network). We could use the TDS backup network but not the FASTER MetroCast Wi-Fi.

Went to logon to the TP-Link Archer C9 that runs the main Wi-Fi network.

It would NOT accept my logon. That got me worried.

Re-cycled power twice. Nothing. The default logon, admin/admin, worked.

Logged in.

EVERYTHING WIPED CLEAN.

No Wi-Fi networks. Back to factory settings. SCARY.

Yes, only took me a few minutes to reconfigure since I have it all documented.

SCARY.

No explanation!

Just a heads up.

GoDaddy e-mail (SecureServer) — Appears We Are Using Software Under Test.

by Anura Guruge

GoDaddy e-mail, late this afternoon, was even MORE temperamental
than usual.

Did YOU notice that?

I then happened to glance at the URL because I tried to REFRESH the tab.

BINGO!

Saw the word ‘beta’.

In the computer/software industry that indicates something
UNDER CUSTOMER TESTING.

See this official definition of ‘beta software‘.

So we are using, right now, ‘Beta’ software
— i.e., software that is still being TESTED.

That explains everything.

GoDaddy Introduces New e-mail Logon Screen For SecureServer.

GoDaddy (SecureServer) e-mail Logon Screen.

For a welcome change GoDaddy had the sense and the decency to include the yellow ‘info’ bar to TRY and inform people that this might not have been a phishing attempt. Nonetheless Deanna checked with me to make sure it was legit. It appears to be. It works.

Not sure why? Notice though that it no longer has ‘GoDaddy’ anywhere — not the name, not the icon! Possible that they plan to SPIN OFF the e-mail to another company — different name. Hence the ‘NO-NAME’ logon.

I do my best to like GoDaddy.

But it is becoming increasingly difficult.

I now no longer use their damn File Folder. I used Google Drive — and JUST LOVE IT.

Yet again GoDaddy is giving me grief with my popes-and-papacy blog. This is beyond the pale.

Google Drive Is Rather Compelling. Easy To Use. A Few Missing Features But Very Useable.

I have been using it EXCLUSIVELY this week. Have not even tried to access my old GoDaddy Online Storage! Created folders for all my active books on Google drive and uploaded the files. Pretty compelling. I like the interface. I just found that you can even drag-and-drop! Wow.

I am hooked. Don’t really see a need to pay for online storage if I can get 15GB free (for each Gmail account I have).

A few things that are inexplicably missing or are odd.

Though it has a really fancy preview capability and file description pane, there is no way that Google lets you see the file size! This is a known issue that has been repeatedly discussed. Don’t tell me to sort my size. That is not what I want. I like to see the size of the uploaded file since I tend to have a fairly good idea of how big a file should be. So a quick glance at file size can tell me whether the file uploaded OK — and maybe even that I uploaded the right version. Not a showstopper but rather strange to say the least. Appears that there may be a Machiavellian reason for this. This way you never get to see how Google is calculating your space used!

Another very strange but similar quirk. Doesn’t show the DATE that a file was uploaded. Just the time! I kid you not. Very bizarre.

I also have some concerns about security. But, is any Online Storage offering watertight?

But, for now, I am happy.
