Curious As To Why Google Picked ‘Whitechapel’ As The Codename For Its New Cell Phone Processor.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE & read here. Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitechapel

Yes, Google very definitely is an International entity, BUT I don’t think it has any particular or special affiliation or connection with London or even the U.K. So, why ‘Whitechapel’?

Yes, it might have been for the band. Possible.

Why am I intrigued. For us Brits ‘Whitechapel’ has certain definite connotations, chief among them ‘Jack the Ripper‘! Was that it? Nothing wrong. New processor is likely to be a RIPPER. If so rather cute & clever. There is also the Bangladeshi connection & it is possible that the Google team may have some of those as key team members.

I would love to know. I would love to be able to Google it. SMILE.

London’s Spectacular Welcome To 2021, With Lasers, Fireworks & Drones — Must Watch.

by Anura Guruge

Given that I still think of the U.K. as HOME, I always make a point of watching THE Queen’s Christmas Speech & London’s New Year’s Eve fireworks.

This year’s show BLEW me away. I was SO, SO proud. Wow.

Yes, I have since read that some folks did NOT like it. Thought it was too political. I had NO issues. I thought it was on the mark.

Well, YOU have to watch it.

“The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society” (2018) Movie On Netflix — Outstanding, Heartwarming & Funny.

by Anura Guruge

<

YouTube trailer

Yes, I loved it. But, then again it was like bespoke for I. All the elements that appeal: British, historical, pigs, books, London & islands.

Great story. Haven’t checked whether it is based on a true story. But, the German occupation of Guernsey was very real & painful. This story very could have happened even if the name of the Society is a tad contrived.

I even recognized — & even more surprisingly correctly placed two of the cast. That is very unusual for I.

Yes, I am sure it is not for everyone. But, if you are into WWII period drama, literature, humor, pigs & a bit of romance you can’t go wrong. Yes, it is predictable, but that doesn’t detract. SMILE.

I enjoyed it. Not sure it can be repeated per se.

“Great Smog Of London 1952” & Remarkable Parallels With 2020’s COVID-19.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE & read here. Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Smog_of_London

I happened to see a program that touched upon the 1952 “Great Smog” & was amazed, amused & sobered by what happened then & what happened 68-years ago.

This cracked me up. They was controversy then (as now) as to the effectiveness of wearing masks. Human nature does not change. WOW.

It only lasted 5-days but thousands died. Despite warnings to the Government nothing had been done. Hospitals didn’t have enough equipment & staff. Deja vu all over again. The parallels were quite striking.

UK (‘Red Arrows’) & French (‘PAF’) Flypast Over London To Honor De Gaulle.

by Anura Guruge

Definitely worth watching. Quite spectacular.

You don’t get to see two countries doing a flypast together — that often.

Didn’t want YOU to miss it.

Since I devour British news I had seen it early this morning. SMILE. Enjoy.

Nice, easy to follow guide. Just note that the times are LOCAL. So, 5-6 hours ahead of U.S. Eastern.

Remember ‘D-Day 75‘ is June 6, 2019, not June 5. Huge day. You have to pause and give it some thought. Remember. Reflect. Rejoice!

This are at least 16 (yes, sixteen) D-Day specific posts on this blog, not counting all those on ‘Churchill‘ and the ‘RAF‘. So, please check them out. They all contain painstakingly researched images or videos. You will be amply rewarded.

I am a great admirer of D-Day.

I always pause to reflect on this day, June 6, 1944 — 9-years ahead of my birth.

D-Day, of course, changed the course of history — of course, for the better.

Yes, this being the 75th anniversary we will, quite rightly, see lots of gusto, pomp and ceremony. I wish we would celebrate it with similar vigor each and every year.

I was in London for the 50th anniversary. That was quite an occasion.

If NOT for the Allied heroics of this day we will NOT be speaking English.

World’s First Brick-and-Mortar ‘Vagina Museum’ Coming To London Soon — With YOUR Help.

Cool — right? Hurrah for London and us the open-minded Brits. I am all for it. I gather that the caveat ‘brick-and-mortar’ is very important since their others that claim that they also have ‘vagina museums’, albeit not in a permanent location.

Lets face it. The MOST NATURAL thing in the world! With the exception of totally in-vitro test tube babies all of us came to earth via a vagina. So, why not celebrate it, why not explore it.

Can’t say it will be the first museum I rush to see the next time in London. It is not like we have a shortage of GREAT museums in London.

Kind of have a fairly good idea of what we are likely to see. Hhmmm!

Visited the ‘Sex Museum‘, in New York, soon after it opened. It was anti-climatic.

But, I wish them well.

Up the Vagina — as THEY are likely to be saying, being Brits (as I am)

Why Is The U.K. Giving PREFERENTIAL Treatment To Donald Trump By Flying A Giant Balloon In His Honor?

by Anura Guruge

This is unprecedented!

We, the Brits, have never bestowed such an honor on any prior U.S. President. For that matter, to any Head of State.

Why just for Donald Trump?

I am NOT happy.

This is WRONG. Very wrong.

Trump, at best, should be treated like all other U.S. Presidents before him.
