Dow Shoots Up 152 To A Stock Market Record On The Day Of The Worst Mass Shooting In History — MUST Tell Us Something!

by Anura Guruge

From MarketWatch.com

The relentless, never ending RISE of the Stock Market since Drump. From MarketWatch.com.

This was sobering and scary. This is a market that knows NO FEAR — and that is scary.

What would justify investors driving up the market, to 152 pts on the Dow, and to an all time HIGH when TV media, all day, has been saturated in blood. This is unreal. Yes, I know. It is the greed to do with the looming tax cuts. But, that is a long way out.

Not sour grapes on my part. I am fully-invested, and long — and have been since 2007! {Smile} Yes, I took all the pain, downturn and horrendous losses of the recession and held my nerve just. I can smile now. So, this is good for I. But, I am very pragmatic investor. I know when we go against the grain and that we are doing right now.

Today, was NOT right, by any measure, any standard, any set of values. We are going to have to pay for this greed — though I use the ‘we’ more in the Royal sense. Scary.

A very nice pop. Those that were lucky enough to get in at $14 must, obviously, be very happy. Good for them.

Let’s see if the enthusiasm persists two weeks from now. No my watchlist.

I have to confess that though a HUGE fan of Roku, I had NOT heard of the Roku IPO until this morning — and that from MarketWatch, a Website I frequent incessantly!

I am no longer BIG on IPOs. I, personally, haven’t made any money on an IPO in ages. So, I no longer get too excited.

At $12 to $14, the Roku IPO price seems ‘interesting’. So, I will keep an eye on it tomorrow morning. It is supposed to get priced tonight, i.e., September 27, 2017. IF it shoots up, it, like so many other tech IPOs of late, is most likely to come down 20% within the month! I will keep you appraised. Do not sweat. That is what and why I am here.

8pm, Wednesday, September 27, 2017.

Roku has set the IPO price at $14 — the maximum that had been previously muted. Hhhmmm.

Thursday’s opening will tell.

Negative Warnings On Amazon Finally Make A Difference; AMZN Ends At 3 Month Low.

by Anura Guruge

August 22, 2107 Front-Page story on ‘MarketWatch’.

LEAD story on ‘Marketwatch’ Tuesday, August 22, 2017. Click image to access original.

From ‘MarketWatch’, close of market, Friday, August 25, 2017. Click ENLARGE and study.

There was a sharp $15 drop on Thursday, August 24, 2017 but as the afternoon wore on buyers piled in and the loss was cut in half. [I just happened to luck out and do a decent option trade, around noon, when it was close to the low of the day. {Smile}].

On Friday it went down all day, albeit not dramatically — just drifted downwards slowly. But, it closes BELOW $950 at a 3-month low.

Yes, it could drift lower. $925 is realistic. But, I don’t think it will go much below that — BUT I could be wrong.

Day ‘MarketWatch’ Says Amazon Is Set To Drop Below 10% It Goes Up 1.43%

by Anura Guruge

LEAD story on ‘Marketwatch’ Tuesday, August 22, 2017. Click image to access original.

Amazon (AMZN) went up $13.61, i.e., 1.43% on that day, i.e., August 22, 2017. Data from ‘MarketWatch’. Click to ENLARGE and view here.

It was pretty AMAZING but I had a hunch that this would be case. Yes, AMZN at $953 was cheap after the recent sell-off.

However, I have to agree that AMZN will go down, quite a bit, before the year is out BEFORE coming STORMING back into the $1,150s! I am writing options even higher that that! {SMILE}

So be CAREFUL. We will see $940, if not lower, before the December 31, 2017 — per my hunch. You have now been officially warned.

Humdinger Of An IQ Test — Try It IF You Want To Feel Humbled.

by Anura Guruge

iqtest

Click to access this 40 question IQ Test at “IQ Research”.

This, if it is truly bona fide, is AN IQ Test!

Wow.

I am a veteran of IQ tests and must have done close to a hundred in my days. I recounted in my first “Brain Meditation” book (last years) how IBM made me take 3 IQ Tests, when I was 19, one at 10pm at night and then gave me an unconditional job offer — good for ‘life’. I include that snippet below, BUT I assume you all read it in the book. Right? {SMILE}

This is good — assuming it is NOT bogus.

It starts of EASY PEASY and lulls you into a sense of complacency. Then BANG.

I found this on MarketWatch this morning.

I did the test, this morning, on my pad, while doing my ablutions in the bathroom! I was also in a hurry since I needed to start shoveling. I didn’t go for the complete result profile. Didn’t have time. But, it did say that my results were above average. That might not mean much and with all due modesty “I damn well hope I am still above average”.

But, try it. Forget the score …

Do it just to see the questions, no numbers.

All symbols, all 40 of them.

Enjoy.

Dragon Touch X10 Android Tablet — Screen Resolution & Battery Life Not Up To My Criteria.

by Anura Guruge

The 10.6″ 8-Core Dragon Touch X10 Android Tablet which I ordered from Amazon over the weekend arrived yesterday. Definitely a nice, responsive unit with NO BLOATWARE — and it was fully charged when it arrived. It even came with fairly comprehensive instructions and a very cute, ‘clingy’ screen protector with additional guidance. I was able to get it up and running with my core set of APPs — Chrome, Bank of America, Fidelity, ‘GPS’, ‘Home Security’ etc. — very quickly and with NO issues. I was impressed.

But, I have already printed the paperwork from Amazon to return it! I used it for less than 2 hours!

There were two things that were not up to my requirements and those were such that I would never be happy with this tablet. These being: screen resolution not good enough when using Chrome and battery charging/battery life.

The screen resolution is 1366×768. In theory that should be good enough. It is OK when you are using APPs so to speak, but not when trying to read Webpages on Chrome — in particular ‘marketwatch.com‘ (in desktop mode). Deanna had a look and agreed. Resolution way below par. Also the case when watching video. Given that I HAVE to read at least 30 – 40 minutes of ‘marketwatch.com’ a day, in order to be I, this was NOT going to fly. I need a tablet where I can read Webpages without the screen resolution getting in the way.

The second issue proved to be worse that I had hoped, given that I had already read, on the Amazon reviews that this could be a stumbling block. Though it can be charged via USB it is NOT ‘happy’ being charged as such. It, appears, though I did not bother to try, that it prefers to be charged using its dedicated charger. I had hoped that this would not be as bigger an issue as it proved to be. It was NOT fully charged after 7.5 hours plugged into my standard USB charger! That is not acceptable. Every room in this house is set up, one way or another, for USB charging. Plus when we travel I carry a pouch of USB chargers. I am not going to take another dedicated charger. IF it is not going to charge, fast and adequately, via USB, it is NOT for I. Alos noticed that battery capacity was going down in front of my eyes. Wow.

It also appears that I can’t get the magnetic sensor, used by non-GPS compass APPs to work. Not a showstopper BUT annoying. I like an ‘analog’ non-GPS compass on my tablet. Also not convinced that it had the latest and greatest Wi-Fi chips.

So the Dragon, alas, is going back. Shame.

I have already ordered a 10″ Lenovo tablet:

Click to access Amazon listing. It has a higher resolution HD screen. Smaller and a (slower) Quad-Core as opposed to the 8 in the Dragon.

I Bought A 10.6″ 8-Core Dragon Touch X10 Android Tablet To Replace My Le Pan.

by Anura Guruge

dragontouch10asas
dragontouch10bbbbb

My Le Pan 10.2″ Android tablet, that I got from Walmart in August 2014 (to replace my 7″ ASUS that died), after acting up now and then, in terms of not powering up, finally gave up the ghost and died, dead as a doornail, Friday night. Friday was quite the day, even without the stock market meltdown. I won’t even tell you how much I lost. Some people have mortgages that are less than that. C’est la vie.

Yes, the Le Pan is covered by a USELESS 2 year product warranty I got from bloody Walmart — for $45. Never again. This is why I bought this from Amazon, the 2nd of the 12 (or more) Android pads that I have bought for the kids, Deanna and I.

I came across the Dragon Touch X10 when I asked Amazon to show me 10″ (or greater) Androids. I have had good luck — or I should say Teischan has had good luck — with ‘cheap’ Chinese Android Pads, i.e., Visual Land. The reviews for this, including one on YouTube, were pretty awesome. I liked the specs. The 10.6″ appealed. I do NOT carry this around. 95% of the time it is on my bedside table. I mainly use a tablet, in the morning, in bed, while I drink my coffee, and listen to CNBC. I check my blog, I read ‘marketwatch.com‘, I read the U.K. “Daily Mail“, cover-to-cover, without fail, and I check camera news. All using Chrome. I don’t use many APPS! So this looks good. Price was acceptable, though it appears the price has gone up in the last 6 months! I paid quite a bit more for the Le Pan 18 months ago.

I will, of course, let you know how it works out after I get it on Wednesday, February 10, 2016.

critical error101

Deanna ‘upgraded’ from Windows 7 to Window 10 and it proved to be an unmitigated DISASTER! Windows 10 is absolutely riddled with SERIOUS — nay, CRITICAL — errors and it is slower than frozen molasses.

Basic things like the START menu stop working or sometimes JUST DISAPPEARS. Yes, the START MENU goes away. I found a fix for that on YouTube and that worked.

Then two days ago, about a week after we fixed the missing START menu problem, she started getting the above CRITICAL message. We spent many hours, to no avail, trying to fix that. I gave up. She, quite rightly, detests Windows 10. So I gave her the restore disk for her laptop and within about an hour, while we watched family TV, her ASUS laptop was back running Windows 7 — and everything is noticeably faster.

Check the Web. Windows 10 has serious problems. Lot of folks are doing what Deanna did. Reverting back to Windows 8 or Windows 7.

This is bad. It is a disaster. I, from day one, had a sneaking suspicion that we would start having issues like this with Satya Nadella. I don’t think he will last long BUT it looks like that he will drive MSFT even further into the ground before they boot him out.

I don’t understand WHY this is NOT getting reported in the financial media, e.g., CNBC and MarketWatch! Definitely looks like a coverup. Are they getting paid by Nadella to keep this under wraps. But, trust me, this is NOT good news for Windows 10. This debacle with further sully the MSFT brand and convince even more people to ditch PCs and go with Apple or Android.

So, YOU have been warned. Do your due diligence. Google. Yes, Google.

For the latest 2014 – 2015 Tax Rates for New Hampshire — CLICK.

I happened to see this article on “MarketWatch” this morning. Obviously it piqued my interest. So we have the 3rd highest property tax rate. The average stated for New Hampshire, viz. $3,649, is 1% BELOW what we pay — but we have an exceedingly modest dwelling. This article and the accompanying tables make interesting reading.
